I was so so grateful to have you to vent to about Legends and Lattes. 🤣 House at the Cerulean Sea was so much better (but also "fine" for me, haha). I liked the middle best, when the focus was on the kids, but the ending left me underwhelmed. It felt for most of the book like it was building to something, but the something never happened. I also felt the love interest/relationship stuff felt pretty shallow.

Yeah I actually read quicker with my eyeballs so audio takes me longer 😬 and I don’t concentrate on it when I’m doing other things sadly so it doesn’t actually help all that much haha! I feel like I consume the story so much better if it’s in succession and it feels weird sometimes to be starting another series while I still have one ongoing 🤷♀️ glad to know there are other binge readers out there!!! 😂 A Chorus of Dragons had my whole heart and as you say it’s gonna be a tough one to topple! I bet it’s one of those that is even better on reread!

@@bookschocaholic I used to be that way with audio as well, and then it became my most read format. Been trying to dial that back down because I do tend to miss some stuff when listening, which has been going so well this year!! Also, I feel you!! My memory always betrays me when I leave too long between books, and I just hate leaving a world and characters behind once I am invested. That said, I often get fomo when new books come out and then end up with endless ongoing series which only have one book out ouch hahaha 🥲😂

But unless I have a really specific task to do audio and me don’t mesh 💔 Yeah I hate leaving a world once I’m invested in it so binging is the only way. Yes, I’m hoping to get to Certain Dark Things this summer, all of her synopsis sound great so I’m excited to get to more of Silvia Moreno Garcia’s works. I couldn’t find any nice matching editions of earthsea for the longest time and then I saw the omnibus!! I hope I love it but I’m going in more with a gaze of curiosity about how foundational to the genre it is really. 🤔

'Nuanced' is just the perfect term for this series, it is sooo breathtakingly epic!! I had the exact same experience with the books as you did, and I honestly still don't get why people always hate on book 3... I mean, it was such a well-balanced book that actually breaks the mold of storytelling, who wouldn't love that?! Also, the emotionsss!!! Love this review! Have you read his short story collections yet? Also impeccable! 🤩

Yessssss 💯 This series builds upon itself. Would book three or four be as good if book one hadn’t done its job? Of course not! Does that mean that each book hooks me more?? Irrefutably!! I get that the people who maybe read book three and then had to wait for book 4 it would be difficult because they do read like one narrative in a way… but even still, that book was impeccable!! I’ve not read any of his other yet, but I’ve heard great things about the Paper Menagerie so hopefully I’ll get to it sometime?

@@bookschocaholic Amen to all of that!! I think book 3 and 4 were even released within half a year of each other so the wait would be as little as possible, lol. The series just builds so beautifully, and ultimately I think the end result is better than the sum of its parts (even though each instalment is exceptional in its own way). Also, YES Paper Menagerie is incredible! Go read it already!!

I've yet to read Who Fears Death (let me do that asap!!), but HECK YES to all of the others!!! Especially Lady Trent just has my heart, her voice is sooo strong in those books. Some other faves for me are Mia Corvere from Nevernight, the main trio from A Chorus of Dragons, Reevan from Spark of the Divine, Ink from The Wickwire Watch and Zomi from Dandelion Dynasty 🥰

Yesssss Who Fears Death is a personal fave of mine… but MAJOR CONTENT WARNINGS so please be careful! I’m hoping to get to Nevernight this year!!! 👀 this was filmed before my Chorus of Dragons era or else… yep 100% and Dandelion Dynasty was. Bit raw at the time. I’m sure when I make another one of these at some point several of there will appear. I’ve not read Spark of the Divine or Wickwire Watch yet but I’ve heard good things!!!

Kings Of The Wyld by Nicholas Eames is an amazing read! I literally laughed out loud all the way through, it's a wonderful good natured swipe at both the Rock world and fantasy tropes. Have just got Black Hawks, nice review by the way. Need a laugh after my last series read.

I'm almost done with book 2 right now and think you're spot on. This was early in Sanderson's writing career, and I think these books highlight his ability to create intrigue and make promises that keep you turning pages. (Elantris was a great example of this.) But overall, Mistborn seems to suffer from the other side of coin of his intrigue, namely that it goes nowhere fast. And the writing is surprisingly clunky too, which as an amateur writer is encouraging to see. I plan to move right into Stormlight Archives after the first Mistborn trilogy to see how much Sanderson has evolved in his writing.

Yes, exactly! I’m looking forward to seeing how I find Stormlight by comparison. That is actually why I wanted to reread it. To refresh myself for both the good and the bad so I might see where I land on his magnum opus! Thank you for watching! It’s always good to know I’m not the only one. You know, I'd have to reread this series to say for certain, but I feel like I am in the exact camp as you, only when I first read it I was still so new to the fantasy community that I just bought into the hype and tried to convince myself that I liked it more than I did because everyone else loved it lololol. Appreciate this review, I hope Stormlight works better for you (like it did for me!).

A great one with a LGBT character is Magnus Chase series, its based off of norse mthology, and the main character, Magnus Chase, dates a gender fluid character. This character is named Alex Fierro, who is a norse demigod, so is magnus. Alex is a norse demigod child of Loki, who was shape-shifted into a woman and got pregnant by another man. The author of this series is Rick Riordan, might have heard of him, he wrote the Percy Jackson series. By the way, Alex is able to physically change genders

Yeah I actually read quicker with my eyeballs so audio takes me longer 😬 and I don’t concentrate on it when I’m doing other things sadly so it doesn’t actually help all that much haha! I feel like I consume the story so much better if it’s in succession and it feels weird sometimes to be starting another series while I still have one ongoing 🤷♀️ glad to know there are other binge readers out there!!! 😂 A Chorus of Dragons had my whole heart and as you say it’s gonna be a tough one to topple! I bet it’s one of those that is even better on reread!
@@bookschocaholic I used to be that way with audio as well, and then it became my most read format. Been trying to dial that back down because I do tend to miss some stuff when listening, which has been going so well this year!! Also, I feel you!! My memory always betrays me when I leave too long between books, and I just hate leaving a world and characters behind once I am invested. That said, I often get fomo when new books come out and then end up with endless ongoing series which only have one book out ouch hahaha 🥲😂

Yes, I’m hoping to get to Certain Dark Things this summer, all of her synopsis sound great so I’m excited to get to more of Silvia Moreno Garcia’s works. I couldn’t find any nice matching editions of earthsea for the longest time and then I saw the omnibus!! I hope I love it but I’m going in more with a gaze of curiosity about how foundational to the genre it is really. 🤔

Yessssss 💯 This series builds upon itself. Would book three or four be as good if book one hadn’t done its job? Of course not! Does that mean that each book hooks me more?? Irrefutably!! I get that the people who maybe read book three and then had to wait for book 4 it would be difficult because they do read like one narrative in a way… but even still, that book was impeccable!! I’ve not read any of his other yet, but I’ve heard great things about the Paper Menagerie so hopefully I’ll get to it sometime?

The series just builds so beautifully, and ultimately I think the end result is better than the sum of its parts (even though each instalment is exceptional in its own way). Also, YES Paper Menagerie is incredible! Go read it already!!

Movie Sam is pretty good, but book Sam blows him away, haha! Just the right mix of loyalty, determination, love and absolutely zero patience for nonsense!
I've yet to read Who Fears Death (let me do that asap!!), but HECK YES to all of the others!!! Especially Lady Trent just has my heart, her voice is sooo strong in those books. Some other faves for me are Mia Corvere from Nevernight, the main trio from A Chorus of Dragons, Reevan from Spark of the Divine, Ink from The Wickwire Watch and Zomi from Dandelion Dynasty 🥰
Yesssss Who Fears Death is a personal fave of mine… but MAJOR CONTENT WARNINGS so please be careful! I’m hoping to get to Nevernight this year!!! 👀 this was filmed before my Chorus of Dragons era or else… yep 100% and Dandelion Dynasty was. Bit raw at the time. I’m sure when I make another one of these at some point several of there will appear. I’ve not read Spark of the Divine or Wickwire Watch yet but I’ve heard good things!!!

Kings Of The Wyld by Nicholas Eames is an amazing read! I literally laughed out loud all the way through, it's a wonderful good natured swipe at both the Rock world and fantasy tropes. Have just got Black Hawks, nice review by the way. Need a laugh after my last series read.

It was an arc copy of Imperfect Demons, book nine of the absolutely fantastic Imperfect Cathar series.
I'm almost done with book 2 right now and think you're spot on. This was early in Sanderson's writing career, and I think these books highlight his ability to create intrigue and make promises that keep you turning pages. (Elantris was a great example of this.) But overall, Mistborn seems to suffer from the other side of coin of his intrigue, namely that it goes nowhere fast. And the writing is surprisingly clunky too, which as an amateur writer is encouraging to see. I plan to move right into Stormlight Archives after the first Mistborn trilogy to see how much Sanderson has evolved in his writing.
Yes, exactly! I’m looking forward to seeing how I find Stormlight by comparison. That is actually why I wanted to reread it. You know, I'd have to reread this series to say for certain, but I feel like I am in the exact camp as you, only when I first read it I was still so new to the fantasy community that I just bought into the hype and tried to convince myself that I liked it more than I did because everyone else loved it lololol. Appreciate this review, I hope Stormlight works better for you (like it did for me!).

A great one with a LGBT character is Magnus Chase series, its based off of norse mthology, and the main character, Magnus Chase, dates a gender fluid character. This character is named Alex Fierro, who is a norse demigod, so is magnus. Alex is a norse demigod child of Loki, who was shape-shifted into a woman and got pregnant by another man. The author of this series is Rick Riordan, might have heard of him, he wrote the Percy Jackson series. By the way, Alex is able to physically change genders
