    Lots of Hummingbirds in the deserts....when we lived in Paris, CA for awhile it was hot desert out there and we had litteraly hords of hummingbirds feeding off our feeders....but that bird at the top of the cactus in this video was not one....not sure what breed but I think it was feeding on insects that were harvesting pollen from the flowers. There were some birds with strange calls out there...loved it hahaha. Thanks dog for watching and commenting!

    My pleasure roaddog! I used to camp on the beach at Pismo Beach and also down at Imperial Sand Dunes by Glamis to ride the sand dunes with my ATV....these dunes the sand is different, more hard packed, unfortunately they suspended camping out in White Sands dunes for the time being. The grassland were very nice...loved it there.

    I don't understand how so many people with Toyota trucks are able to utilize the Kimbo platform. Even a new off-road Tacoma has a payload of only 1200 lbs, whereas the kimbo weighs ~1200 lbs. That means there isn't any room for the driver, wife, dogs, gear, water, food, etc. Only thing I can figure is people are adding suspension modifications and going over their allowable payload. Someone please clue me in on this.

  • @BirdPhish
    @BirdPhish2 ай бұрын

    The Kimbo was designed specifically for/to fit exactly in the Tacoma. Plus ..I'll bet any overland rigged Taco owner will admit to being over ..but the good rigs have been built up to handle it. My regular cab 4/cyl. Tacoma is a bit lighter than a V6 extra cab or 4 door and thus has a higher payload. Still I'm sure I'm a bit over with all my gear! So ....I've added an Icon Stage 3 suspension kit for a 2" lift and added Firestone Air springs to the rear...ride is great with the air springs, pretty much don't notice the Kimbo on board. Tires are important too! Took my jacks off the Kimbo to save 100lbs. thanks for watching and the comment!

  • @colbybrady2187
    @colbybrady21872 ай бұрын

    @@BirdPhish, yeah, I just want a midsize truck from the factory, with rear lockers, that can handle the weight of a Scout Yoho or Kimbo camper (with people and gear included), within the factory payload, and without mods.

  • @BirdPhish
    @BirdPhish2 ай бұрын

    @@colbybrady2187 I suspect even with a full size truck and 2000lb payload when you put 1500lbs of Kimbo and gear in it the truck will sag in the rear some and you'll want to have something to handle the weight bring it back to level...you don't want to back that guy with the head lights pointing up with low beams and blinding everyone lol...I imagine most people towing and with slide in campers are doing something to their stock trucks so the nose of the truck isn't pointing up n the air. Also...shocks are a wear item...when my shocks needed replacing I put the Icons shocks on and it made it like a completely different truck...in good way...much, much better ride than stock shocks...good luck and thanks for watching and the comments!

  • @colbybrady2187
    @colbybrady21872 ай бұрын

    @@BirdPhish, indeed, I figure something minor like airbags rubber bed mat, and even new shocks is fine, I just don't want to throw $15K or so into mods. Also, I just want something that is engineered from the factory as apposed to a small shop's recommendations, recommendations that might change substantially between various shops. For example, the guy on Trail Recon said that when he beefed up the suspension on his Powerwagon build with new shocks and springs, that it didn't handle quite right after that. So just trying to avoid an expensive headache like that without compromising my ability to lightly off-road too much. I'm glad your build is working out, I've always liked those regular cab Tacomas.

    Thank you! Utah is incredible and I'd never been in that part of it before...so nice. I looked at ehe Scout a Overland Expo PNW and I've seen many in the field in use over the past year...I could probably be happy in a Scout and of course love the Kimbo. With a Scout you'll blend in with other RV's in the campground and not really be noticed....not possible in a Kimbo lol. Thanks for watching...commenting!

    It's always great to see people full timing in Kimbos, but then again I'm biased because I'm waiting on my own Kimbo to be built. I've seen a number of your videos and this one is easily your best work because, at least to me, you've chosen to exercise some faith in the ability of your camera to tell the story without narration. At the moment, there's lots of overlanding channels and I think many of them make the mistake of featuring the creator on camera way too much. It's the landscapes that should feature in these videos above anything else as far as I'm concerned. When the landscape gets taken for granted, they start fetishizing the gear and talking too much. I hope you consider getting a wind sock for your microphone. They're super cheap. Remember sound is half the picture. Cheers.

  • @BirdPhish
    @BirdPhish3 ай бұрын

    Awesome comment! I've noticed the same thing about overlanding channels...seems to be a rule they have to move everyday lol....trying to do some things different with this channel sometimes at least. I hated to include the video clips with wind noise but decided to...the cowboys caught me by suprise and the first shot I didn't have my mic and sock on the camera. Just picked up a new mic too this week should help with sound hopefully. thanks for watching and the comment!
