Between the Sharks Garage
Welcome to Between the Sharks. Join us as we take on some classic car and hot rod builds and the work to keep them as daily drivers on a budget. We will throw in some DIY adventures in making and or fixing stuff that strikes our fancy. Let's enjoy the struggle to figure out how to do...well... whatever needs to be done.
I am just a regular guy attempting to accomplish some maintenance, restoration, or even basic diy projects without hurting himself or breaking something that wasn't broken in the process.

Flame thrower! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Owns a Chevy Van G20 myself. 10 years ago I unfortunately had a crank bearing failure. I lifted the engine out through thel right door............it's much easier. Of course, you must remove the dashboard and the console that sits at the front of the engine where the AC compressor, servo and generator are mounted.
Get some brother. Looking good
workin hard at it
Please use ppe when dispersing defoliants. Atleast longsleeved shirt&gloves. those things are somewhat toxic.. Nice update on the yard situation!
fair point.. had the gloves but could have done better
Look at the active ingredients look for 2-4-D for broadleaf control and roundup (glyphosate) for total eradication also strong vinegar >20 salt solution works for knockdown adding dish detergent to the mix helps th herbicide to stick to the plants. Good luck
thats the second nod for vinegar... i might give ita whirl cant hurt
That was a 25 min video to say I cut the front off a old push mower lmao
25 action packed minutes
On my acreage I've needed a brush hog to knock down a type of thistle that is slowly taking over the the edges of the yard and it seems to creep in farther each year. In the last 10 years it's taken over about 3 feet of grass around the yard and showing no signs of ever stopping. I have a 60 inch mower deck that will have a 24HP engine mounted to it and I can push it from the front of my garden tractor. Need a few more pieces made and I'll be able to start building. I will also take an old mower and cut the front out as you did to sneak under the barbed wire fencing. Keep the kool videos coming.
thanks man, i have a mower deck or two laying around your plan sounds pretty useful and 24 hp is a lot!
@@betweenthesharksgarage The stems of this brush are about the size of a straw and tuff and very close together and about 2 feet tall. I hope 24 HP will be enough....lol.
I use RM43 from tractor supply. I have the best results by applying herbicides & insecticides in the late afternoon or better yet in the early evening. This allows the treatments to penetrate the effected area slower without risk of midday sun & heat drying up or evaporating these expensive chemicals. Good luck taming that jungle.!! 🚜💨
I appreciate the tip, maybe i ll order some we are tractor supply deficient around here
HAYWIRE FOR SURE
What a mess!! If it wasn't for the hidden walls Id say try a flail mower
i had the same thought... l think i am just gonna have to tough it out once to find out what is under there
You need to do another treatment with each over every spray on the whol place ,You have to get a few to really get into the main mother root system.
Nice job Ryan, there is definitely a huge indent into the overgrowth. Unfortunately the only way to deal with the wisteria is to chop it down. You were 100% right when you said to cut the trunk of the wisteria and hit it with herbicide. 👍👍
it helped a little but yea man... we have our work cut out for us no pun intended
You should use a product called “Crossbow” you also need to add what they call a “Sticker” which helps the Crossbow not to be washed off. Also the slower the kill the better.
Napalm since it did wonders for Vietnam. Hey, it's 4 am and I'm short of sleep and coffee. Struggling along side you, my brother.
landscaping must be a killer business in that area people probably give up and pay for someone else to do it
use this , RM43 total vegetation control . You can get it at tractor supply . itrs expensive but it works
Spray diesel on the leaves, not on the ground, it will clear enough to allow you to see what to chainsaw
I have heard that before
I got my stuff from tractor supply.. had ivy and other stuff growing sprayed it on a hot day took effect withing 3 days .. I let my dad borrow it can't remember what brand nothing you see everyday
I ll check tractor supplies website thanks
@@betweenthesharksgarage rm 43
I applied alot of herbicide when I volunteered for a museum. I found that strong mixtures are not more effective and waste chemicals. Tryclophr is marketed as posion ivy and woody brush killer,it is more expensive than gylphosate and should be used on everything that isn't grass. Gylphosate is good for grass and pretty wesk on everything else. There are alternatives to gylphosate and they don't seem to work for beans.
Thanks for that info. I am new to this
Your channel is neat AF. Keep up with the interesting and informative videos.
Plz don't scrap the bead breaker even if it. Doesn't work i have one like it that the one little side peice broke it belonged to my great grandfather and I would buy yours if you go to get rid of it man
I feel this clean up so much. The house I'm in had older horders living in it, lovely people but man did they leave a lot to clean up. The yard has been so hard to get cleaned up.
🎉
Thats a plastic "pulsa jet" carburetor. Dont tighten the bolts that hold it down too much or it warps the plastic and causes it to leak fuel past the diaphragm and into the engine causing it to run stupid rich, also auto parts stores sometimes have those diaphragms in stock. Also that run away was the cooling fan wind based governor that uses a paddle under the housing that gets pushed by the wind the cooling fan makes, along with springs and leaver arms to open and shut the throttle based on the load on the engine to maintain the peak power running RPM.
Thanks for the info!
I like the videos but it would be great to see more work less talk
Fair enough thanks for watching
I’d suggest cutting the discharge opening larger so it doesn’t clog but you will need to make a wider safety guard/cover.
loved it . Cobble away.
Thanks man
Given a thought to the water pump might be going bad? I have ran across a case where the impelor on the pump was going bad and the car would over heat at times.
Looking good
What company did you buy from?
I am not surprised by the running mower at all. You can't kill em. It's so silly that a person would buy more than one lawn mower in a lifetime.
Man. I have killed a few… but I use them like an idiot
I'd get a new and proper harmonic balancer and a correct timing pointer. Also verify #1 is at TDC. You could also at sometime put efi on it if you desired. Also get some rust converter and coat the underside of the van.
Swival seats make a huge difference in having seating options for the back. You can make some using wheel bearing hubs. Consider painting or staining your wood tool box. You can get led lights for an rv to install as dome lights for when you want it fully bright. Also you can get a spare tire mount that goes into a 2" hitch receiver. If the trans goes out; just swap in a rebuilt one or consider doing a manual swap if you prefer that.
Why didn't you pull the bumper?
Awesome work
Thank you! Cheers!
Add some food coloring to the solution to be able to see were you have sprayed. Love the creative adaption.
That’s a good idea
Nice you got those working
They have been really helpful
I bet you wont use anything from whats there but guess wel see😅
Man I am already using it. Waste not want not
Hello. From Australia. I really enjoy your content. But looking at this problem with your yard. You can get a rake for your mini excavator. I have one on my mini, and it's awesome. Just a thought. Keep up the great work
Thanks for watching and thanks for the tip. I have been looking at them. I am sure I will just keep adding accessories as we go
Loved the video, and how you fell in love again lol
Thanks man. One day I ll find the source of the problem. Or it will truly fix itself… either way the jeep is awesome
Go to a farm store for chemicals. Diesel fuel works too
Good advice. I ll do an update on these eventually to see if they worked
We got to see that truck running the one that came with the house
Stay tuned
Do I spy a 60 series landcruiser?
Good eye. That’s a buddy’s truck
quick tip don't push it drag it saves on your back
Fair point
not dumb i have a shoe lace holding up a quilt cover as a curtain as I have just moved into a new flat yes shoe lace is massive and it works while saving money for curtain poles on a budget here people doing my best with what i got
Waste now want not right
I am with you on not spraying death poison all over. I had some weed problems in my driveway and some Vinegar, soap, and water killed all of it. A quick search supposedly Vinegar will kill both the English and Poison Ivy with an extra couple treatments. Knowing what I know now I would not use standard Vinegar. I will be using the commercial strength Vinegar. The little bit of soap mixed in helps suspend the Vinegar on the leaves to burn them more. You can also do salt as well but I didn't like the idea of spraying salt all over. DON'T get the Vinegar spray on any metal.... Trust me. Anyhow just my experience with weed eating / mowing alternatives. Also all natural, the way it should be.
I m happy to give it a whirl… so far my death poisons have not been particularly effective on the English ivy
iy's like watching some one hold a milkshake on a roller coaster🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Nothing dumb about that! Think about making a pivot mount on top of the mower hood so all you have to do is point and shoot. Plus it will up the MadMax factor! 🤣. I also loved Junkyard Wars and the UK version Scrapheap Challenge.
Again with the lawnmower mod genius… that is why I would join your junkyard wars team any day
I like your brand of redneckery it's refreshing 🤣🤣🤣🤣 keep it up
Redneckery abounds
I’m going to get one for my place. By the way, the Evolution saw is great!
I love the sprayer and that saw
