Between the Sharks Garage

Between the Sharks Garage

Welcome to Between the Sharks. Join us as we take on some classic car and hot rod builds and the work to keep them as daily drivers on a budget. We will throw in some DIY adventures in making and or fixing stuff that strikes our fancy. Let's enjoy the struggle to figure out how to do...well... whatever needs to be done.

I am just a regular guy attempting to accomplish some maintenance, restoration, or even basic diy projects without hurting himself or breaking something that wasn't broken in the process.

Owns a Chevy Van G20 myself. 10 years ago I unfortunately had a crank bearing failure. I lifted the engine out through thel right door............it's much easier. Of course, you must remove the dashboard and the console that sits at the front of the engine where the AC compressor, servo and generator are mounted.

Look at the active ingredients look for 2-4-D for broadleaf control and roundup (glyphosate) for total eradication also strong vinegar >20 salt solution works for knockdown adding dish detergent to the mix helps th herbicide to stick to the plants. Good luck

On my acreage I've needed a brush hog to knock down a type of thistle that is slowly taking over the the edges of the yard and it seems to creep in farther each year. In the last 10 years it's taken over about 3 feet of grass around the yard and showing no signs of ever stopping. I have a 60 inch mower deck that will have a 24HP engine mounted to it and I can push it from the front of my garden tractor. Need a few more pieces made and I'll be able to start building. I will also take an old mower and cut the front out as you did to sneak under the barbed wire fencing. Keep the kool videos coming.

I use RM43 from tractor supply. I have the best results by applying herbicides & insecticides in the late afternoon or better yet in the early evening. This allows the treatments to penetrate the effected area slower without risk of midday sun & heat drying up or evaporating these expensive chemicals. Good luck taming that jungle.!! 🚜💨

Nice job Ryan, there is definitely a huge indent into the overgrowth. Unfortunately the only way to deal with the wisteria is to chop it down. You were 100% right when you said to cut the trunk of the wisteria and hit it with herbicide. 👍👍

You should use a product called “Crossbow” you also need to add what they call a “Sticker” which helps the Crossbow not to be washed off. Also the slower the kill the better.

I applied alot of herbicide when I volunteered for a museum. I found that strong mixtures are not more effective and waste chemicals. Tryclophr is marketed as posion ivy and woody brush killer,it is more expensive than gylphosate and should be used on everything that isn't grass. Gylphosate is good for grass and pretty wesk on everything else. There are alternatives to gylphosate and they don't seem to work for beans.

Thats a plastic "pulsa jet" carburetor. Dont tighten the bolts that hold it down too much or it warps the plastic and causes it to leak fuel past the diaphragm and into the engine causing it to run stupid rich, also auto parts stores sometimes have those diaphragms in stock. Also that run away was the cooling fan wind based governor that uses a paddle under the housing that gets pushed by the wind the cooling fan makes, along with springs and leaver arms to open and shut the throttle based on the load on the engine to maintain the peak power running RPM.

Swival seats make a huge difference in having seating options for the back. You can make some using wheel bearing hubs. Consider painting or staining your wood tool box. You can get led lights for an rv to install as dome lights for when you want it fully bright. Also you can get a spare tire mount that goes into a 2" hitch receiver. If the trans goes out; just swap in a rebuilt one or consider doing a manual swap if you prefer that.

I am with you on not spraying death poison all over. I had some weed problems in my driveway and some Vinegar, soap, and water killed all of it. A quick search supposedly Vinegar will kill both the English and Poison Ivy with an extra couple treatments. Knowing what I know now I would not use standard Vinegar. I will be using the commercial strength Vinegar. The little bit of soap mixed in helps suspend the Vinegar on the leaves to burn them more. You can also do salt as well but I didn't like the idea of spraying salt all over. DON'T get the Vinegar spray on any metal.... Trust me. Anyhow just my experience with weed eating / mowing alternatives. Also all natural, the way it should be.
