  I ride horses and I seen that stuff before I actually does not hurt them. They use a special two on the frog so then the frog does not hurt when they’re scraping it so you shouldn’t say poor horse because he doesn’t or she doesn’t feel anything so yeah.

  Its called Smithing or Hammering, they hammer hot metal to adjust its shape. In this case to make the horseshoe (that metal thingy he's hammering) fit the hoof better. When he bounces it on the anvil ... my guess is just to maintain momentum while planning the next strikes.

  Out of interest , has this Horse got problem hind Hooves that you are trying to get even? as i noticed hoof walls are not even width from frog, also why on Hind Shoes do you use a Single Toe clip at front and not the usual quarter clips on hinds ? I hope you asked Owner to get some good old fashioned Stockholm Tar Applied to that hoof looks rather dried out. Sorry i am old School , but very interested .

  It's the exact same as you cutting your fingernails. It is completely painless unless you cut them too short.
