Hoi! 👋 We're Michelle and Alex, an American couple in the Netherlands.
In 2020, we quit our jobs to travel the world, and... well, that didn't happen. So in 2022, we decided to make an even BIGGER change: to pack up our lives (and our cats 🐈) and move from Austin, Texas, in the United States, to the Netherlands.
Subscribe for a new video every week. Tot dan!

Should you ever get to Elburg you should try some kloosterwegge and on Friday kroggebrood
Jullie hadden eigenlijk voordat jullie begonnen je bloeddruk moeten meten en erna ook😂
Shite bakery though and all factory stuff to complement the dry bread
To answer the question, I like all drop. But just 1 is often enough. But harlekijntjes I can eat more then 10 😅
You'd better go to harry de groot Beste bakker in Nederland
So hard to understand people don't like drop 😂 a big difference might be that we do not often eat more then 3 pieces a day. So it is okay to have a strong taste, or tough texture. It is okay if a dropje lasts minutes in your mouth. It is not eaten like chocolate or gummies. (by the majority of the people 😂)
I absolutely adore drop. But I think its very much an aquired taste overtime! Also, i tried the A&W root beer and hated it. I suppose every country has its thing right :)
Salty / salmiak , the sweet ones are boring and not that great.
I got so excited with the honingdrop as I loved them so much growing up And then you went gone all like that on me. You should try laurierdrop btw. Wouldn't know a more acquired taste 👌
Apenkoppen
Finished my evening diner just a few minutes ago ..... I AM SO HUNGRY RIGHT NOW! Maybe drive in my car to this place 60, maybe 70km away?
One of the patisseries in Utrecht city used to have something called "spoorpunt" that originated from sticking crumbles together into (sweet) pie slices (Bakkerij Blom).
Amsterdamse uien (onions). The trade of "tafelzuur" (table sour - pickled things) was a Jewish business before the majority got killed by the Nazis. Amsterdam still has one shop with that background: De Leeuw on the corner of Vrijheidslaan and Vechtstraat. Open Thu, Fri, Sun 9-5. Really a place to visit as culinary pilgrimage if you love Amsterdam's onions. I guess the family are in this business almost 200 years
The Netherlands used to be the cacao hub of the world where the beans/seeds got processed (roasted, ground, etc.) and this then would be used to make chocolate by Swiss process in Switzerland, Belgian process in Belgium. And the Netherlands had its own production of chocolates, bonbons, etc. You may be familiar with the Droste cacao-box effect - famous Dutch cacao (powder) for making cocoa when mothers DIYed their recipy of chocomel , chocolate, etc. If you were on a pilgrimage to Amsterdamse uien, then you could pay a visit to chocolaterie Huize van Wely - since 1922 in Noordwijk aan Zee, Hoofdstraat 88, but also in AMSTERDAM, Beethovenstraat 72 You might find smaller businesses - boutique shops with exotic new tastes - but Van Wely is really good.
Drop is the best😍🙈
It's so weird seeing people look so disgusted while eating things that I absolutely love. The Autodrop yellow box and the Oldtimers Zoethouders are my favorite candy. Apparently it's an acquired taste
Bugles with just some mayonaise 🤤
The oldtimers zoethouders are even hardcore for the average dutch person:)!!!! I was sadistically laughing before you guys ate it:)
Karnemelk is i think buttermilk in english
These are good. Would you get them again? NO... 😂😂😂
Every drop that is drop you didn't like, every drop with added flavours that "hide" the drop flavour you like the most :) I guess you guys just don't like drop haha As a kid i liked honing drop and munt drop the most. Never got into the salty drop or soft drop, not my thing.
Did u guys gain weight?
I would also recommend to go the a fish shop or truck and try the herring there!
For kokosbrood I would choose either the 100% kokos one or the one with chocolate. The pink one is disgusting imo.
What I learned from this video is that old timers stoofpeertjes is basically a gateway drop😂
Yet again. American tourists focus more on the "cabdy" don't/ can' t comment on the wonderful seafood!
Kokosbrood was a sixties-thing for children. I don't know anyone under 60 who really actually eats that shit
Did you try the frikandelbroodje + slammers energy combination yet?
You're missing the best and traditionals: dubbelzout, heksenstaafjes (or heksenhyl) and also zwart wit (which is a powder, I think you can only buy this in a candyshop).
bram ladage in rotterdam and dordrecht might be one and the same store brand, but the quality in rotterdam is way better than in dordrecht also: 1. bram ladage 2. smullers 3. febo imo
get some " kokindjes" drop from Katja : nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kokindjes one for eating/tasting, on in front of you on the table, I dare you not to take another :D :D :D
Here is a fact: Scandinavian people are also fond of "drop". When i am in Sweden or Norway i always gather chacolatebars with licourice. Also the have icecream with liquorice. Thats the best! Imagen a Magnum with hard liquotice winit the chocolate and liquorice sauce in blended in the icecream....
Lekker hè
Those oldtimers they hated are my favorite candies to eat. Can eat whole box in one sitting
Sisi is actually just a translation of 'ja ja' (yes yes) (I remember a old commercial where they sang 'si-si, ja-ja')
7,00€ voor een klein broodje met een klein beetje filet american. Alleen bij bakker bart.👍
Its odd to see people struggling so much to eat something that I can eat a full bag of on my own... Also Drop is S tier, except for Katja's dieren. That shit is not drop
krentenbol met roomboter en salami... try it !
How could you be there for a year and never have a bike or even ride a bike?! How is that even possible?
Okay-- sorry. You answered it later. Glad you got bikes finally!
did you ever ate a "KANO" ??
When we used to have school milk in primary school most of the 30 kids had semi-skimmed, a couple full fatty and chocolate milk and only 2 of us, so that includes me, had karnemelk. Even for Dutchies it's an acquired taste. De Ruijter used to produce old Dutch aniseed cubes which you could use for making hot aniseed milk with, till their machine broke down and they couldn't get replacement parts anymore. They replaced the product with really expensive sachets, but you can do a cheaper version of the milk by using De Ruijter 'anijshagel' or the 'gestampte muisjes' you've got there, but likely the 'anijshagel' comes closest to those cubes, nutritional value and ingredient-wise (the cubes consisted of sugar, dextrose, aniseed extract and hardened plant-based fat, 0.5g per 100g).
When I was young my nan always used to have laurierdrop (laurel licorice), hard ones from health/organic shops. It's more of an Italian flavour. The Klene brand does soft ones. Klene also does honey licorice, which I get when I've got a sore throat. Theirs has 15,8% of honey in where the Venco one you had is just 0.3% :o The 'zoethoudertjes' you had refers to 'zoethout'; the roots of the licorice plant. These roots/sticks are some sort of old candy and those 'zoethoudertjes' taste like how it would taste if you were to be chewing on those sticks. My favourite out of what you tried is the little cats, though I wish they'd be less hard. I think there is nicer licorice out there, but those you'd find in the kind of candy shops where they'd let you fill your own bag with random candy. My absolute favourite is 'trekdrop', stretchy licorice. It's an old Dutch tradition licorice candy, but only Haribo has the recipe and they stopped producing it a couple of years ago 😢 Old Dutch licorice 'duimdrop' (it can be wrapped around your thumb = duim, and sucking your thumb = 'duimen') maybe comes closest.
Blasphemy! Now let Dutch people taste American chocolate with their weird sour milk flavor. Which was actually an ingredient in the old days (you can look it up if you don't believe me) . So. There. Also, the best drop I think you might like is Trekdrop. I wonder if it's even real drop.
I love how english people try to speak dutch names/word and then just butcher them 😂😂😂
you misspelled “english” ❤️ guess we’re not all perfect, huh
@@buncharted fixst it
perfect, no notes
You should try the most hefty one. “Dubbel Zout” = double salt.
You should try the vlamtosti. It’s like the vlammetjes but in a tosti. It’s in the freezer section 😅
