Although I have listened to Eckhart for many years and like his teachings, I am thankful that I have never attended any of his retreats. Even with the best intentions it turns into a quasi-cult-like atmosphere. The best example of this I can give was an occasion when, Eckhart Tolle's wife Kim Eng insisted that " he is human". The people listening just laughed at her as if they didn't believe her.

For example, I have avoided alcohol most of my life but now because I know that Eckhart drinks it, I feel a subconscious pressure to start drinking, which objectively is not helpful. I'm sure my GP would agree.

I think what is unique about Eckhart currently is his ability to stay in that present state almost always or maybe all of the time. I'm just saying that I don't think that level is the same as Buddha, Jesus or even Ramana Maharshi. It's not nirvana.

People need to stop worshipping Eckhart and wise up a bit. This is the exact thing he was afraid of and it goes against the whole spirit of the teaching. Remember, there's nothing special about him. It's the universe itself speaking through him. I'm not convinced he's at the same level as Jesus. But you can hear Jesus if you listen to a Course in Miracles
