  And to think that even with the recent salary increase it is back at square one, as it is now just about what it should have been 8 or more years ago to have been a liveable wage then. People trying to come up with the 28,000.00 USD per year tuition cost (just tuition, not other expenses like living costs and books) need to consider how they will pay back student loans after the end of their five year minimum basic qualification course. Madness.

  Jesus christ thats terrible even for Jamaican standards. I can’t compare with countries that have a higher standard of living, being that it would be unfair. I know people in Jamaica that works in industries that is not as essential as medicine and gets more. what struck me the most is that you guys pay the same taxes like everyone else😮.

  It's rough on the youths, and we definitely do pay the same taxes. It's a Pay as you earn taxes system. There are a lot of other areas thay earn more, that's for sure. That's why so many are looking for other opportunities elsewhere

  Exactly. It's meant to keep everyone as a long-term workforce and continued labour. Inflation consistently raises your cost of living even if you're trying to live below your means

  Very informative, thank you. Any information of a physician trained and working in the US, but wants to relocate back home to JA? So, if I'm a doctor for over 20 years I still need to do the internships etc? And what about specialty certification? eg. if I'm a certified psychiatrist or internist? Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.

  You're welcome. I'm not completely sure about the transition from the US but it should be easier. You'd have to find out from medical Council of Jamaica their requirements.
