Last week twitter went into pandemonium when a story screenshot by ‪@annanovia94‬ was shared stating that 480k jmd was the bare minimum needed to survive in Jamaica. Here are my unsolicited thoughts on the matter....
I do hope you enjoy watching this video.
So without further ado... let's get into the video!!!
Enjoy!!! :)

$480K is still not enough to live comfortably in Jamaica. I currently live in the United States and I came home to Jamaica for 2 months and I spent so much more than that. My only splurge was Starbucks every morning and eating out once per week. And I brought home two food barrel with me. So I don’t get why anyone was upset. Getting coffee and eating out should not be a luxury.

It really isn't enough at all. The cost if living is constantly rising expeditiously. I think people are so used to struggle that the idea of not struggling seems like a luxury. 480k can easily be wiped out by illness and there are people who earn so much more so I really didn't get the uproar.

The further away you are from the figure either in current earnings or what you potentially can see yourself earnings is the more likely you are to be offended in my opinion. Every day I see tons on 2022 vehicles on the road suh money deh yah but many ppl are mentally far from what Anna is suggesting. Also I'm opposed to that hustle culture for myself, after work I must be able to decompress.

I think you're right. The further away you are from the figure, it's probably more offensive it came across. Not to mention a lot of us have a mindset problem where we don't think we can achieve certain things because it is a bit harder to do it here. People rather push an image of perceived wealth with big car and such rather than achieve actual wealth. I definitely agree that we need to decompress and rest after work because life already has it's challenges, no need to burn out too.

Yep! It’s true, and especially with the large In my opinion they are only offended because they know they are not in the bracket of earning that to live “comfortable” by that standard. It’s the reality honestly. The “don’t have to worry about living paycheck to paycheck” I made a video similar to this living in jamaica, but I need to edit. Great video Nella.

Thanks much. Yeah I think it brought forth a reality that a lot of people want to avoid. So many Jamaicans are so used to the struggle that they can't see any other options and feel if someone suggests living a life without struggle then they are boasting or belittling others. For many it is written off as uptown lifestyle and dismissed which is a tragedy tbh. I want everyone to want to earn more and live better.

Oh yeah I saw that hubbub! The only thing I think could be "tone deaf" about her comments was the suggestion that just working harder and burning the candle at 2 ends is gonna get people to the 480k a month. Some people have 4 jobs and can't make it past paycheck to paycheck and that's on capitalism lol mek mi stop ya

That's true. Working harder doesn't necessarily mean living better or being able to afford everything
