    Surely lifting the sled and angling it towards the ground will just cause you to push the sled into the ground? Sure you’re moving forwards, but surely not at the potential energy throughput you might otherwise be able to achieve if you weren’t pushing it into the ground…?

    I think I might be doing things wrong . I attend 3 hyrox classes per week and also do two Zone 2 runs per week (alongside strength training). I’m guessing I need to be doing some faster paced running outside of the hyrox classes ! This is where I am going wrong as somebody fairly new to the sport … Thank you very much for spending time to record this video.

    Both techniques are not the best. You need to get your hands as low as possible and your body as flat to the floor you can. That way your entire body weight is behind it and you are pushing the weight with less friction as there is no lift on the sled

  • @RichRyan
    @RichRyan20 күн бұрын

    You may be correct about pushing the sled in isolation. Your method would probably move the most weight or could move it the fastest, but it will be too taxing during an endurance event. But you try it during a Hyrox and report back!

    @@RichRyan I made a living out of pushing sleds. Not as a sport. Keep your arms straight and try it. Front row rugby players in a scrum try and get parallel to the ground as possible they use the shoulder right enough. Try it.

    No wonder it’ss easier, you’re lifting the sled off the floor, reducing the friction. Surely that’s not allowed? Not criticising, just want to make sure that if I copy this method, I won’t be penalised on the day

    You will not receive a penalty for lifting the sled.

    Great information, thanks. As a successful senior hyrox athlete (60+), we have an additional issue that should be addressed. We lose adaptations, muscle mass, bone density, and strength at an alarming rate while recovery is slow. 😢 What I've found is that we can never stop doing the heavy lifting. Some combination of heavy low rep and lighter high rep seems to work best. Being able to move is probably third behind aerobic capacity and strength. At least at the top level of senior athletes.

    That's a great tip and makes total sense. A good reminder for how to keep strength up.

    So when you sign up for a Hyrox there are two division - “Pro” and “Open.” Everyone competes within their age group when they sign up for either “pro” or “open.” Everyone is an age group athlete in the results of a Hyrox - even the elites (outside of majors and WC). What exactly do you mean by age grouper?

    Love the part about only doing short bursts when working on technique. I say the exact same thing to people who are trying to fix something in their rowing. 2-3 minutes, then stop to reset the brain and stop bad habits drifiting back in as the mind drifts away!! Great video (although you might want to set the actual timestamps?)

    @@RichRyan no worries. And I'll take a look at your program when I get back from summer holiday. Need to do more than just base running to lead up to the new season. But also need to find a plan that fits around all my indoor rowing training... which is tricky!

  • @richardcharleston2547

    If you lift the sled off the ground there is less friction on the base of the sled because less surface area is in contract with the turf, thus you need less force to slide it along the floor. He is lifting it up on purpose

    I hated the ski erg before I started hyrox training, now I love it. The breathing was key for me, inhale with arms overhead … out on the effort. Also using my back rather than my arms, otherwise my tris get way too pumped. Nice vids chap. Thanks.

    Four HYROX so far. Used the much-maligned Nike Tempos for two, PB with the Vapor 2 and one with the ASICS Metaspeed Edge+. Despite the PB, the Tempo is my favourite for HYROX. Great for 1K runs, wide in the heal for stability (Lunges, Farmers, even W-Bs) and good cushion for the broad jumps.
