    5600 RPM's with the 24 is way too low and will cause stress in the motor over a period of time. What RPM's did the 24 4 blade turn?

    I always fish just below the thermocline for kokanee. Lake trout are usually below it, right on the bottom.

    I purchased based on price, zman has several cheap chatterbaits. With that said, the Jack hammer is not only over priced, but from my perspective, the hook is to big. After I placed a trailer on my chatterbait, I follow it up by putting a treble hook on the main hook. This treble hook has almost completely eliminated most of my missed (set the hook) on fishing.

    Miles, I find myself watching your videos more and more as they relate to what I do at my lake. As for the drop shot, I usually do drag the worm to make it swim horizontally but, there are times I will actually "stroke" the worm and that draws a reaction bite! Sometimes I end up stroking it because the bait or weight have become hung up but, other times I'm doing it to draw a reaction from curious fish. I'm a firm believer that most times the fish aren't aggressive and you must draw a reaction. I see people catch nothing all day while I'm having success because I'm drawing reactions and they aren't. Good stuff. I look forward to the next one.

    The way I’ve understood it, if it’s so hot that it’s unbearable fish go where you wanna go if you can take some water with you and find some shade: you catch ‘em

    Totally agree. For me, it’s about having the confidence to do less. A lot of people make their bait look like it’s having a seizure. That can work, but usually not as good as letting the weight on the bottom impart 90% of the action.

    I love fishing this time of year! All the new Covid fishermen are gone and, the "anyone can catch them during the spawn" people are gone too! I go out there and have the place basically to myself. I can also pick up some discounted gear from all of the "first day of fishing season folks" who no longer have any interest or have gone in June and caught nothing. I just hook up my swim jig on one rod and my drop shot or TRD on the other and head out. Most of the time I have to draw reaction strike but, it works in these hotter months by stroking my swim jig off the bottom. I'm standing in the water at my place so, it's almost like a day at the beach. Lastly, since I have the place to myself, there is little to no fishing pressure on my fish. I think Mid September to November is the toughest time to catch them.

    I felt this. The water in the ponds I fish has clearly become more stagnant over the last few weeks. Way more dead water. Most of my bites are coming in 1’-2’ of water in the shade, and mostly much smaller fish.

    I'm left handed and can fish with either left or right its a handy skill if you fish a lot. Chatter bait is one of the baits that I have struggled to catch fish with I can catch them with jigs, shaky heads, Texas rig, spinner baits. I've used the same tips in this video just no luck.

    The dropshot has recently proved its value for me. I use only floating plastics now for it because as a bank angler I can’t afford to snag all the time. Plus it allows me to slow down my presentation and really get some bites. Now just need to get the ned rig rolling a little more.

    Strange. For 20 years I’ve heard it the other way around. That the colder water below the thermo cline contains more oxygen. In fact one of the lakes that I fish once the thermocline gets pronounced in summer months you’re wasting your time to fish shallower than 30 feet. All the ish will be 30 to 35 feet. Just right under the thermocline line.

  • @johnsonc8
    @johnsonc84 күн бұрын

    All things being equal, cold water does hold more oxygen. But with the thermocline, you have stratification. The deeper water does not mix with the upper, and because it has no source of oxygen, it runs lower and lower than the upper layer which is able to get re-oxygenated from the air.

  • @deshoup1
    @deshoup1Күн бұрын

    It is actually a function of the lake's productivity. If the lake has low productivity, there is not a lot of organic matter for bacteria to eat or living critters using the oxygen and you can go many weeks or months of thermal stratification and still have oxygen. This is common in northern lakes with clear water. In more productive lakes (that have lower visibility due to phytoplankton growth), there is enough stuff consuming oxygen in those depths that you lose the oxygen within a couple weeks of stratification (occurs in spring). johnsonc8 pointed out it is the lack of mixing that matters here and the amount of oxygen you have at depth once the thermocline develops is all you have for the rest of summer...if there is enough oxygen relative to the stuff consuming the oxygen, it can hold fish, but in systems where the oxygen gets consumed quickly, it will have no fish the rest of the summer.

    Does that stratification change throughout the day or if you move to a different area of the lake? I’ve noticed it last couple weeks here in North Carolina but also noticed the haze would disappear later in the morning and afternoon and also when moving out of the creeks to the main lake.

    why would you use a lighter lb on your leader? isn't the whole point of the leader to protect your main line? so wouldnt you want it to be a heaver lb test? if you used a lighter lb you'd, in theory risk losing the whole rig if a fish DID happen to get on due to it just naturally being weaker than the rest of your line

  • @SonarFishing
    @SonarFishing5 күн бұрын

    Great question! There is actually many different purposes for leaders. As you pointed out many leaders are intended to be stronger than main line (sometimes made of steel) which is primarily an effort to eliminate breakage due to toothy species like pike. In bass fishing there is little need to have a leader that is stronger than the main line because the primary purpose of a leader for bass is to use a leader material that is less visible than say braided main line, so more often than not we use lighter leaders than the mainline. The big key is to always make tackle choices based on the weight of your leader and not the main line to reduce breakage or other failures.

  • @L33TZER
    @L33TZER5 күн бұрын

    @@SonarFishing ahhhh okay, that makes sense too, i dont know if it was later in this video or somewhere else but I heard that lighter is also better if you’re using braid so if you get snagged or something you can break the line without having to cut so much braid constantly
