    I'm a bit taken aback that Jonny doesn’t care enough about the ensemble to recognize Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen and Barney Kessel! Seems like he should have anticipated that the entire team would be historic, world-class players! 🤔

    I'm a guitar player so I envy your ability to just play so many notes at once.. I'm limited to 6 notes at a time and often 2 notes I'm trying to play are on the same string so I'm forced to play upper extensions..or even eliminate a note altogether..like the 5th. So I guess what your saying is instead of playing a 2,4, or 6 I can also replace those with 9,11, and 13.. is it also ok to eliminate that 3 and play a sus2 or sus4 chord? Instead of 9 or 11. Like is the 3 missing going to mess up the chord progression? My guess is the 7 and it's place in the progression should be enough to imply the3... I guess I could always play a sus2 or sus4 with a sharp 9(minor3) or a flat 11(major 3) maybe I'm just confusing things lol. Anyway great lesson. Figures I'd have to learn theory from a piano player.

    Is tritone sub simply the use of a dominant chord a half step higher than the target chord? That's what it seems like to me

  • @rickfreeth6496
    @rickfreeth64962 күн бұрын

    That's the way I've been taught to remember and use the tritone sub

  • @johndiraimo1444
    @johndiraimo1444Күн бұрын

    Yes, that is the result but it is better to understand the relationships.

  • @rickfreeth6496
    @rickfreeth6496Күн бұрын

    @johndiraimo1444 agreed, the way I approach it is once I understood the theory I could use the " half step above the target" as a reflex device to quickly grab the tritone in time

  • @johndiraimo1444
    @johndiraimo1444Күн бұрын

    @@rickfreeth6496 Agreed. Well said. I only felt to add "understanding the relationship " comment because I find that some students learn formulaic devices without knowing the WHY. Of course, understanding the "why" presents us with options... especially when composing new pieces.

    Yo do have a video expanding on the Mu chords? This whole video was great but the Mu chords alone were worth watching and it really helped unknot what I’ve been hearing in gospel.

    I must be thick as I could not grasp it quickly enough. You never showed how to use the chords when playing a standard? In that situation, would the 7th chords not be played with the left hand only leaving the right hand for playing the melody? Also, I thought that the suitable inversions either first, second or third etc in the left hand would be used but this also blows my mind in trying to determine at speed of playing which inversion to use? I am 74 and have been a note reader all my life and want to learn my 7th chords and suitable inversions but it all seems to overwhelming for my old brain to take in.

    Hi, nice tuto, i just don't understand why you call these chords these names, while you don't play the root. For exemple the G , the C and the F are note played. Thank you :)!

    The same is true of Welcome To The Black Parade by My Chemical Romance. It also has the same chord number progression as the Pachelbel Canon, but in a different key (G major instead of D major).
