JerryCricket Gaming and Chess

JerryCricket Gaming and Chess

I got into Chess in October of 2023, so I'm an active student of Chess. Besides that, I kind of just play whatever catches my eye. Settlers of Catan and all its expansions and Hearts are games I'm okay at. If you've interacted with me online, you'll probably see Jerry The Cricket, Cricket Singer, Jerry Cricket, Cricket of Crickets, or JerryCricket. You'll see a lot of random games in the backlog of this channel, but as of now, I'm just uploading videos on chess and occasional rants about other games I play or have played.

Funny story: I got my glasses because I played too much Doom one summer in Chicago as a little kid. Boy have game graphics evolved!

I had a childhood family friend who was a chess champion. After reconnecting with him many years later, I realized that I wanted to learn. You can add me on any chess site as jerrycricket if you want to play me, but I honestly enjoy the physical board and in-person chess way more.

    @@JerryCricketGaming the Evan’s Gambit is quite fun when your opponent allows it, and when I can get into it, I find myself pretty well off. The problem I have is when my opponent plays something like the Caro or Scandinavian defense, and I have to throw half of my plans out the window

    Those of you wondering why my king was in the center: part of what this opponent played prevented me from castling. He sacrificed a lot of pieces to keep my king central and my rooks undeveloped. He really messed me up in opening and most of midgame. However, the game ended epically in my favor!

    @@JerryCricketGaming A move I learned from Chess Vibes, when white moves Ng5, you do pawn d5, attacking the bishop. They take with their pawn first cause bishop is part of the attack and they can't lose it, then you gallop your right side Nd4, and white here commonly pushes the pawn d6 to open up the bishop line again. Take pawn with queen, opponent follows through with Nf6, slide Qc6 "attacking the bishop", knight takes rook h8, surprise attack! Qg2 now threatening their rook! So Rf1, check w/Qe4, and most people protect with bishop instead of queen, but that's checkmate with Nf3

    Before studying openings and in particular opening traps I would suggest studying through basic endgames, and chess tactics. The opening is probably one of the least important parts of the game to study(The main thing with openings is to know the why behind them. Why each move is played how it is and what that get's you. This helps you understand strategy better.)

    For the initial position of the queens, I first learned that they go on the same colored square. So flip the board with the white square in the bottom right corner, white queen goes on white square, opposite the king, black queen black square. Although "queen likes the d" is definitely more memorable LOL!

  • @jrtspace7945
    @jrtspace7945Ай бұрын

    It actually aint checkmate though until the queen interposes. Unless they resign(Which would be winning by resignation not checkmate), They do not win there. If there is a legal move to stop a check, even if it delays the inevitable, it has to be played, unless they resign on it. So the checkmate is the mate that happens after the queen interposes and the other queen takes. In Fact the queen interposing is forced.

    Glad you like that memory technique. So many people don't set up the board correctly, so this will definitely help. Even if you accidentally put the wrong color square in the corner, at least the queen will be correct with the king.

    An important detail I forgot to say at 1:38, remember that the numbers of the ranks (rows) also don't transpose. So the numbers always go from 1 to 8 starting on the white side! Very important to remember that if you're playing black. So, for example, if you were playing black and wanted to think about the pieces using algebraic notation: going from your left to right on the backrank--h8 rook; g8 knight, f8 dark-squared bishop, e8 king, d8 queen, c8 light-squared bishop, b8 knight, a8 rook. My video doesn't cover how to notate movement, captures, or checks, so I might do another video on that if there is a demand for that!
