How To Remember The Chess Board And Learn Algebraic Chess Notation

Ойындар

An essential lesson that I wish I got when I was just beginning my chess journey. If someone taught me this, then I would have gotten past some of the initial hurdles much quicker when it comes to chess learning (especially analyzing and understanding other games played). Here are some quick memory tips to remember the letters of the files, the dimensions of the chess board, where the queen goes, where the knight and bishops go, and much much more! Let me know if these beginner chess tips helps you!

An important detail I forgot to say at 1:38, remember that the numbers of the ranks (rows) also don't transpose. So the numbers always go from 1 to 8 starting on the white side! Very important to remember that if you're playing black. So, for example, if you were playing black and wanted to think about the pieces using algebraic notation: going from your left to right on the backrank--h8 rook; g8 knight, f8 dark-squared bishop, e8 king, d8 queen, c8 light-squared bishop, b8 knight, a8 rook. My video doesn't cover how to notate movement, captures, or checks, so I might do another video on that if there is a demand for that!

For the initial position of the queens, I first learned that they go on the same colored square. So flip the board with the white square in the bottom right corner, white queen goes on white square, opposite the king, black queen black square. Although "queen likes the d" is definitely more memorable LOL!
