❤👍🏼
Thank you Michael, and all the panelists. Very informative, and left me feeling very positive. Haven't seen this much brainpower focussed on improving vinyl since the late 1970s. In the early '80s, the younger engineers were pouring their time and ingenuity into the digital realm, and vinyl stagnated, and a lot of know-how vanished (retired/died/switched fields). Now we're seeing smart young engineers armed with the latest in material science and computer analysis -- leaps and bounds beyond what was available when, say, Oracle released their Delphi turntable in 1979 -- digging into these hard problems. Bravo!
Michael, I took about a five year break from buying any new vinyl pressings. WTF has happened to the quality control at companies that I used to have very good luck with like RTI and QRP? I'm getting a lot more issues recently and the sample size is pretty large. Would love it if you could get some explication from these companies for us. Thanks!
Beautifully done Michael!
Great to hear an Aussie accent grinding it's way through the panel discussion. Good video Micheal.
Bello/Magnifico.🙏✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️
Interesting. Reminds me the LEEDH E2 speakers...
Keeping a speaker slender, free of flat surfaces and edges, that inevitably causes diffraction attracting subconscious attention to the speaker, is important to achieve a wide sound dispersion pattern uniform with direct sound. Room treatment is often to limit the 'bad' off-axis sound being reflected from side walls. Unfortunately less reflected good sound limits the illusion of a wide and deep soundstage, where instruments etc. are perceived in 3D space locations.
@@Trebleclefaudio Thank you for these clarifications. It's clear that dispensing with a conventional enclosure has a number of advantages (from an acoustic, visual and therefore cognitive point of view). I really like the Nemo/Nautilus aesthetic.
My question for this is "What is the equivalent moving mass as reflected to the stylus? Did this have a dual dihedral "Shabbatta (4 Ch ) stylus? That has a larger contact area.
I had some of the early mobile fidelty and the one UhQR Beatlers - I didnt like that lp so much either but the mofi Little Feat were great . I knw already then as young man that tapes ages - some within in a couple year , some brands more .Iassume the digitallisation are nessesary to preserve the sound from analog -the early you do that the better. But Im conserned about why nobody talks atout the record companies getting rid of all tapes when digitallsate their whole catalog - Bound to have happened with some labels maybe all labels
Both tables are equally disappointing in every possible way !!! Pack them up carefully, with carts, and ship them to me for eventual demolishment !! Be sure to include a check for $10,000 for our services and to purchase a butt load of vinyl for final evaluation.
The audiophile paradox, We spend 10's of thousands of $'s over years for just the right turntable, arm, cart,. then cables, amps, preamps and speakers in pursuit of the most perfect sound reproduction. All the while our ears deteriorate and then we croak. To which we archived some degree of bragging rights but often to those who will never understand the passion.
The higher sampling rates does something different in your brain, the higher the rate , the more it makes you want to listen no matter if you think you can hear the difference or not! To me the higher the sampling and bit rate , the more 3 dimensional it is! With pure analog like LPs it's pure amazing! Thanks for the video, I enjoyed the performance!😊
Og vi elsker dig, kære ven !🐾🇩🇰❤
The OMA is so much more open - instantly I hear it.. effervescent and snappin'. TechDas is organic though. Both are superlative! WoW...
His insights into why CD sounded 'better' than vinyl in the 80's was spot on. Convenience killed vinyl, not poor sound. Mediocre turntables were the issue too- trying to make things cheap for more profit. Analog and Digital now sound great in their own ways. (Be curious, not judgmental.) Raul's new album will be amazing! I loved the first song and look forward to the album!
Came for the interview... stayed for the music...that was a great performance!! Time to acquire some new material I think...
When I bought my first CDP ..I was so shocked and deceived by the sound that I compared all the CD's to my vinyl ..........I couldn't live with this new thing, I could not understand what there was claimed to be the perfect sound of music ! In fact this was horror instead of music..........at that time... So I sold it after only a few days to my neighbor who was trilled to buy a Philips CD 16 Bit/4 x oversampling CDP at a fair and reduced price....as the result od ths experience I bought all vinyl that I could find at reduced prices , shops were getting rid of the stock, some Blue notes about fifty albums sold for 5 $/euro a piece........glad I did that and no regrets ever since.
So very good👍 and that is why trying to judge hi-fi without live reference, is fools play🥴 And this guy (the designer)! What a brillant way to introduce it....what better refence can you get? And the filantropic aspect is not to be overlooked! Thanks Michael😎
That's the best sounding version of that song I've ever heard, sounds incredible.
Yes to designed interiors with hifi Not a crappy Bose system or nothing . Also yes to active speakers when done properly, sadly so few are.
Fantastic interview Michael, you can do it all like a master. 👏🙏
Thanks for posting this. Has to be really something to just walk into the studio.
Somebody buy that man a trumpet....🤔
Great content, thank you.
Amazing! Thanks Michael
This is uncanny, this chap has been saying the exact things I’ve been saying why I prefer records, it cost my friend another top end LP12 after he sold his and his records 15 years ago 😁
MBL 🤯🤯🥵🥵✨✨
Your recording of live instruments sounds better than 90% of digital releases 😅
That was amazing, as soon as Lovano started playing OMG!!
This is what it's all about!
Those Treble clef speakers look very similar to the Gradient Helsinki 1.5 speakers that where reviewed in Stereophile magazine some years back.
Very cool, Michael. Any chance of you getting a pair to review?
Maybe but not soon..
Do you need two of these for stereo . . . or not ?
@@stephenritchings8135 - the TCA-M Active Loudspeakers are made to order as a pair for stereo.
I remember hearing sometime in the early seventies that their were problems with the Westrex cutter head. But perhaps that applied to the first one or one that Chris is not using? Let me know if you can. I really enjoy Michael's you tube channel and it would be unfair to him not to mention that!
I just realized that I've never been to a Goodwill without seeing Ferrante & Teicher Records.
This is great, what treat 🙏
Thanks for this Mike! Is that Sam Yahel on keyboards? I'm sure I've got (and really enjoyed) a couple of discs he put out on Naxos back in the day.
his name is mentioned in the video and in the accompanying text
OMG what a treat, today is my lucky day! Thanks so much for doing this!!! 👍👍👍
Mr. Fremer You are an Audio God. Thank You So Much Sir!!!
Thanks Mike ✌️
That was fantastic micheal
The only thing this controversy does is to put another nail in the coffin of the analog is better than digital argument. Placebo effect in full display here. If you like your music colored by the vinyl process- fine but digital is clearly the best way to faithfully produce what's on the master tapes
I wish I could have this table . But my modified Thoren TD-160 Hana ML Boron Cantilever and Micro Ridge nude Diamond stylus. York phono stage
Hi Michael. Will you be reviewing? Apologies if mentioned, found the vid difficult to understand at times....
I'm 66 with Phonak hearing aids. The aids support the 2nd table...it pops 🎉
I wonder why these videos so often actually fail to deliver. This example has largely similar faults as the Steely Dan track. Midrange is cardboard-like and 'splashy' for lack of a better word. This is also very heavily distorted - could be the track being the innermost groove of the side. No true music lover should settle for that. The streaming version absolutely wipes the floor with this. What gives?
370k doesn't mean it's an outstanding player. It's the more expensive must be better mindset. It's not. There are many variables from groove to the ear. The biggest is the carbon - based lifeform listening.
You are an outlier to the comments. I find that interesting. On the website someone uses the same "wipes the floor" metaphor to describe how far superior the vinyl version sounds that the streamed one.
Since it's direct-drive and the platter doesn't appear to be made of metal -looks acrylic - so how does it shield the magnetic field from reaching the cartridge?
The coils and stator are well away from the record. They are not under the platter.
I build audio gear and I know that basically everything effects the sound down to resistors and wiring. Some things more than others, the thing is just because its more expensive does not mean it will sound better so if sound is what you care about the most dont get too carried away with features and looks.
sounds like my cd, thanks!
Michael, The WB/Reprise Loss Leaders series of which there were 35 released were only available through the mail for $2 for the 2 lp releases, $1 for single LP releases such as Zapped and $3 for the 3 lp Looney Tunes And Merrie Melodys. Including postage. A wonderful marketing strategy that introduced many of us to so many artists. Barry Hanson also wrote many of the liner notes as well.
Robert Fripp is a monster on this album!
