Wilson-Benesch's 370K GMT One Turntable System Delivers David Bowie's "Fashion"- U.K. Townhouse Cut.

Музыка

125,000 views of Steely Dan's "Gaucho" played back on Wilson-Benesch's GMT One turntable made clear that people enjoy listening to top quality vinyl playback, even degraded as it is by KZread's meh bit rate audio.
So here's another one: David Bowie's "Fashion" from his 1980 album "Scary Monsters, Super Creeps" from an original U.K. Townhouse mastered pressing. The record is not a "minty" copy but it still sounds great and communicates what this turntable can deliver with ease.
The GMT One review was published in the July/August issue of The Absolute Sound, now available in print and also downloadable on Zineo at this link: www.zinio.com/the-absolute-so....
In the review I explain the technology in detail so if you are at all interested to know why the GMT sounds as it does, buy the issue or get the download. Or just enjoy the track here.

Gosh! Again, an amazing sound. I know the song but not intimately, but I could still recognise sounds that I’ve never ever heard before. I wish this TT was more in reach of us ordinary mortals, but then again, I couldn’t see me parting with my Nottingham Analogue.

While that particular song does not quite do it for me; I can certainly appreciate the "organic" realistic sound quality of it and this wonderful WB turntable. It makes me appreciate my little WB Circle just barely larger than the platter itself. I won't even ask how that is shipped back and forth to the UK. A large wood crate of some sort I suspect. Always appreciate your content and being at the forefront of demonstrating the analog vinyl sound reproduction.

the separation is great. What I like most is they lent you a gazillion dollar turntable and you stuffed it in a corner with a bunch of LP's you don't like ! It may interest the flamers that I own and use a WB tonearm . So there. Keep it up Mikey !

Excellent as always. Of course, we know that the biggest gain in systems when you spend $ is dynamic presentation, which is difficult to connote over KZread. But I've got an imagination. I wonder Michael, how do you feel about periphery rings? I have a modest VPI at home and plunked down for the periphery ring and it has helped tame small warps and things. I've been happy to see my tonearm virtually not moving up/down with a more flat ride. To me, constricting this has felt like I am getting a clearer sense of timing/rhythm/pitch, since I'm able to track what was cut on the lacquer's flat plane more easily. It is perhaps confirmation bias, but to me, anything that allows the good feeling to be elicited is good to me!

I am wondering if the positive immersive effect is the result of cumulative and flawless consistency over time. We constantly anticipate repetitious or newly introduced artifacts of some kind as a result of following the musical tempo, style, and orchestration. So when they are delivered this flawlessly you begin to trust the experience and fully absorb it. For me, it's the opposite of the "wince factor".

Revelatory. I must have heard this track hundreds of times but this is like hearing it anew. Bowie’s vocals never sounded better. Even the fade out which I sometimes feel outstays it’s welcome now doesn’t last long enough. I’m off to give my own UK original a spin on my Linn LP12 to see how it compares.

I wonder why these videos so often actually fail to deliver. This example has largely similar faults as the Steely Dan track. Midrange is cardboard-like and 'splashy' for lack of a better word. This is also very heavily distorted - could be the track being the innermost groove of the side. No true music lover should settle for that. The streaming version absolutely wipes the floor with this. What gives?

370k doesn't mean it's an outstanding player. It's the more expensive must be better mindset. It's not. There are many variables from groove to the ear. The biggest is the carbon - based lifeform listening.
