The stone on the right is a lower quality I can tell it's natural it has a more yellow tint which means lower grade.
@SamaraJamesJewellers2 ай бұрын
Both of these diamonds are natural and you're correct, the diamonds are E colour on the left & F colour on the right. A compounding factor for the apparent difference in colour is the cutting standards between them, the right hand stone having less white light return.

Thanks for the info! Are gemstones graded the same way?
@SamaraJamesJewellers2 ай бұрын
Gemstones are often graded using similar principles as diamonds, but there are some differences in the specifics of the grading process due to variations in gemstone types and characteristics. For diamonds, the 4Cs (cut, color, clarity, and carat weight) are the standard factors used for grading. Cut refers to the proportions, symmetry, and polish of the diamond, while color grades range from colorless to light yellow or brown. Clarity grades assess the presence of internal and external flaws, and carat weight measures the size of the diamond. While many colored gemstones are also evaluated based on color, clarity, and carat weight, the grading criteria may vary depending on the type of gemstone. For example, the color of a ruby or sapphire is typically the most important factor, while clarity might be less significant. Additionally, some gemstones may have unique characteristics that are considered in their grading, such as asterism (star effect) in star sapphires or play-of-color in opals. Overall, while the principles of grading gemstones share similarities with diamonds, there are distinctions based on the specific qualities and characteristics of each type of gemstone.

thanks for info. Why do some jewellers say that clarity doesn't matter and that the diamond has to be only eye clean
@SamaraJamesJewellers3 ай бұрын
Clarity is simply a measurement of the quantity & size of inclusions present in the stone when inspected at 10x magnification. Whether that level, or rating, matters to someone or not is entirely up to them. It does affect price & can affect value for money quite significantly. At Samara James we will not use diamonds which have visible inclusions, so the actual rating on the report won't impact what you can see to the naked eye. We find that some customers would prefer to utilise their budget to achieve the most beautiful stone possible whereas as to others, to psychological impact of a perceived "low" clarity grade is not something they're comfortable with. We've made a few videos looking at aspects of clarity that you might find interesting. You can find them on our channel.

1:17: The worse-colored diamond on the right has an angle where it is almost completely white from the light reflection on the table (largest surface). How come this is not present on the left diamond at any angle? What does it mean?
@SamaraJamesJewellers4 ай бұрын
This is regrettably an effect of the subtle difference in angle of the two stones in the holder that we made to film this shot. Their pavilions sit in very small cut-outs & the stones were fractionally different, so you can see the table reflection of one stone and not the other. If you look closely you can see the left hand stone table start to reflect too.

hello and good morning friend. I can ask you a question if we put two Rubys, one cut by hand and the other cut by machinery and precision, the cut looks clearly beautiful. and my question is Both have the same value or the artisan or machine-cut is worth more.
@SamaraJamesJewellers Жыл бұрын
Generally with rubies their value is determined primarily by their colour as that's what they're most prized for. The cutting of rubies tends to aim for best colour & retention of mass (carat weight) for most of the market. Precision cutting is very important to bring the best from gemstones but wastes more material, so you'd expect that with something as rare as natural ruby the cutters decision making would be for maximum value retention. It's worth noting that precision cutters cut by hand still, they are exceptionally skilled.
