Assessing in detail the reasons why a diamond hasn't been perfectly cut

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video, we analyse a real diamond to understand why it has been cut to be less beautiful than was possible.
The diamond is analysed using a HD 3D scanner (which is the type of equipment commonly used by polishing companies and grading labs like GIA).
The diamond is then assessed using GIA 'Facetware' software to calculate the GIA cut grade of the diamond.
The analysis allows us to see the reasons and the trade-offs the polishing company made when cutting the diamond to sacrifice the levels of fire, scintillation and brilliance in order to improve the retained carat weight.

Really interesting video!! Never know that computer system existed so that was great to see and love how easy it is to see that they have compromised on cut! Really enjoy your videos! :)

Hi there, love your explaination. are you planning to make video about comparison between D/E/F diamond vs FO moissanite? I heard that moissanite finally reach colorless state.

That is a great question. I actually did a visual comparison a few weeks ago for a customer who was interested in a top quality moissanite vs a diamond. It was a very interesting test. Despite what you read about moissanite and its high refractive index, it wasn't even close in terms of the optics when compared to a diamond. I thought it might be getting close, but I was surprised at the difference. I also wasn't impressed at the colour of the moissanite despite it being one of the top branded options still had that green/ish overtone.
