AGS has an 11 grade system for cut (0-10) while GIA has a 5 grade system (Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair and Poor). AGS' is more stringent for that reason however there are AGS Ideal's that will not make GIA Excellent and conversely even more GIA Ex's that will not make Ideal. What we do here at Good Old Gold is locate those rare diamonds that are both GIA triple Ex in cut which at the same time has AGS Ideal Light Performance. Those are the rarest and most beautiful rounds.

Hey Danny,.. There are many different combinations that could create a diamond with maximum brilliance. For instance, the crown angle can be stepper than normal but if the pavilion angle is on the shallow end, it could offset each other and create maximum brilliance. So the key is that all the parameters have to work in harmony together and the ASET image is a great tool to determine if they are doing such. But without an ASET image to confirm harmony, we believe the following parameters are a safe bet. Table = 53% - 58% Crown Angle = 34 - 34.9 Pavilion Angle = 40.6 - 41 There are other factors such as "lack of symmetry" that could reduce a diamonds light return. But as I mentioned, if you have no ASET image and the diamond falls within the ranges above, the odds are in your favor.

@@DiamondInfoMan If a Diamond has 57% Table, 34.5 CA, 40.8 PA with GIA EX EX EX grade, is it safe to say that it's a Hearts & Arrows diamond? If not, what other factors can affect its optical performance. Your Knowledge sharing is highly appreciated :)

@@1989Ankitjain It's a good start, but there are other factors that come into play. For instance, we along with many other retailers take into consideration the depth %, star facet %, and lower half facet %. The diamond must be cut with amazing symmetry as well which can usually be viewed by looking at its hearts image when the diamond is placed upside down.

It all comes down to personal preference.. Most of our customers don't want to spend the premium for a H&A's diamonds. However we do have many customers who are indeed willing to pay the premium. So to answer your question, it depends on who you ask. A similar conversation can be had when talking about the premium attached to a flawless diamond compared to a VVS diamond. Although we sell more VVS's there is a demand for both, so we're happy to educate the customer and offer both options in order to give the customers what "they" ultimately desire.
