What is 'Hearts and Arrows' and how does it compare to Excellent Cut?

In this video we explain what the terms 'Hearts and Arrows' means. We also compare one of our perfectly cut Hearts and Arrows diamonds to a GIA certified 'Excellent Cut' to assess the differences in sparkle, fire, and scintillation.
For expert information and advice, please feel free to call and speak with one of our diamond experts on 01932 260100 (UK) or 0044 1932 260100 (International).

Hearts and Arrows rule! The standard for cutting these stones has raised the bar. Remember, a lot of grading requires special tools and ideal lighting conditions. H&A are always visible, once you see the display correctly.

Maybe it's just me. I have compared these two myself too but I liked the non-HA one better because it did have less table glare. I prefer my diamond to have a deeper look rather than to be covered by a big white flash. I am sure it will draw more attention from distance. It's just like the human personality.

The amount of white light reflected by diamond is considered to be a gud sign and light shd be evenly reflected.....by gud cut.....am I right???

Yea but what are the Holloway stats on it? those stats on paper might not sparkle as much as a nice proportioned correctly cut diamond

Interesting - with the specialised cuts such as the one you mention you tend to have additional facets added which changes the look to be more 'pin-flash' as opposed to the broad flash type fire you see in a perfectly cut diamond which has the more regular 57 facets. Thanks for commenting through.

Video is misleading when showing the comparison. HA appears brighter because it is closer to light source as can be seen by table glare, which doesnt happen on the non HA diamond. Table glare has nothing to do with the brilliance of the diamond. Not to say HA doesnt have more brilliance, but your video is misleading by showing table glare as brilliance to the uninformed viewer.

Both diamonds are exactly the same distance from the light source so it is a fair comparison. There is the odd instance of table glare in the video which is hard to avoid if you film diamonds, but I agree this is nothing to do with the comparative levels of brightness and contrast, nor was it what we were drawing attention to in the video.
