I grew up in Florida on grits and mullet, smoked mullet, mullet salad and other uses. I'd take some Pinellas County mullet smoked over smoked salmon. One man's trash is truly another's treasure.

The first strike I ever got on a snakehead up in Maryland was on a buzzbait and he bit the blade and started running with it. I’ve caught jacks on just about everything down here except popping rigs lol.

We catch mullet +/- 20 miles or more upstream from the bays, in rivers. Seasoned, battered, and fried, they're delicious...I also can them, and they can be made to taste like whatever you want them to, then. Hardheads are the ones most people here don't eat, surprised you thought it was better than the mullet. Stay Safe!

Mullet is great no matter how it is prepared, especially winter mullet. Sail cat is OK deep fried. Mud cat is for the desperate and starving.

Galf top makes the best fish chowder, I don't care for it any other way. I've eaten mullet but it's got to be a big one and soaked in butter milk for hours.

Apparently you have never been to north Florida around the panhandle. People there go crazy over smoked mullet. Personally I don't care for it. It's oily and has a very fishy flavor.

Ive eaten both hardheads and gafftopsail cats. My only complaint is you have to either get a lot or a big one to have anything for a meal. I have absolutely no complaint about the mullet other than the scale not wanting to come off my hands after scaling them

Pre Colombian Native American trash mounds especially from the Calusa tribes of South Florida that lived along the coasts are predominantly made up of trash fish such as the ones he’s catching here. Main reason is they were very abundant, easy to catch n net and an every day staple.

That's considered a popper Barber I do believe the bottom length should be a little bit shorter and have a swivel at the bottom butt but it does work because it is a popper bobber that when you jig it in it makes popping sounds in the water and splashing sounds that attract fish to your bait what I usually do is cut the bottom wire shorter slip on a round crimper then slide on a swivel then put the tag in back in the round crimper put it even with the and then crimp it smash it with your pliers to crimp it can I stay in place and it works better that way

My brother, rip, was considered to be one of the best ceviche makers in our circle. Whenever we had a gathering, people always requested his ceviche. People always asked why it was so good, and he said it was his secret ingredient. Eventually, he gave in and told us it was mullet. One of his fishing buddies wouldn’t believe him, so they went out and caught some fresh mullet and made ceviche out of them. Was he surprised that my brother wasn’t lying. He refused to eat his ceviche after that. 😂
