The official channel of the Götheborg of Sweden. Götheborg is the world’s largest ocean-going wooden sailing ship and a unique replica of an 18th century Swedish East India Company ship that sank outside of Gothenburg in 1745. The ship is today used as a platform to promote trade.

6:35 Man, I feel for her. You can really hear the complicated feelings of getting this wonderful experience, but the struggle of not being able to have a dedicated crew. It totally makes sense why the Götheborg can't have a single consistent crew, but I can also see how seeing the community switched out so often might evoke a feeling of loss. Of course it's speculation, I would just guess that historically crews on this kind of ship were in it for the long-haul together, and would be really tightly knit as a community. Ah, complications of the modern world.
would you not add boiled linseed oil too to help with drying even double boiled linseed oil or would this effect its long term performance I know adding whitting to ready mixed putty to take away the stickiness doesn't to any good
Great video. Couple of questions: how long do you keep the fire going? Does the turpentine aspect really work? Neither you nor Mikko showed any result there. Obviously this method is much less labour intensive than the traditional one ( just spent 3 sleepless days doing it the old way). How is the quality of the tjära? I was always concerned that the outside sticks would burn too hot. Thanks
This is great! I want to make tar for a traditional skiff :)
Awesome!
You can really feel the joy of a sailor being at home on a ship :)
Between the sounds of the weather and the ship, and the craft of your sailmaker, just loving the ambience of this short. Thanks so much for sharing it with us. :) I've only just discovered you guys--looking forward to seeing more of the Götheborg's voyages!
Please, brother, I want to make this paste. What are the ingredients? I live in Iraq
Linseed oil and chalk
Do you think that whoever created this trailer knows that you are supposed to stay in the ship?
Felicitaciones ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡ ------------------ The experiences and life lessons shared on the trips inside the boat, in the old way, must have created an incredible brotherhood, a sense of belonging as a team, to value the beauty of living in harmony with nature and with others, it must have allowed them to get the best part of its human beings. Enviable experience for those who had the privilege of being part of the crew. Surely this experience will remain "tattooed" in your memory and hearts forever. Congratulations
🎉
Good on you! 🪚🛠️💪🏽
You can't have a leak in the engine room. It's electric.
This video is Elsa approved.
We owe our honor to the sea and not to any crown.
Why would you jump into the water? I wouldn't go into the water unless I saw a Mermaid!

HI there! Do you also make putty with red lead ?
red lead power, sorry
I'd love to sail on this beautiful ship one day!!
Awesome journey and crew 💯 Greetings 👋 to the "Göthenborg" on behalf of the crew of the german _Sail-Trainings-Ship _*_Schooner Brig "Greif"_* (ex. "Wilhelm Pieck" - home port: Hansestadt Greifswald) ⛵🌊✝❤⚓🌊⛵
How did the explorers discover America again? With these wooden vessels? Wow!
The sailor who stood in the exhibition on 5 of june inside of the ship is still on my mind...handsomest fave ever.
@@puabi666 you always comment: i fell in love with a sailor
Can l use this product to fix glass in windows
Yes you can use linseed oil putty on glas windows.
Can l used this putty to fixing the widow glass Thanks alot
I am not sure and think you will have to googel it.
Please l want to know wich oil you used is it double boiled linseed oil or linseed oil we used in food Thank you alot
Raw linseed oil, that doesn't harden so quick.
what happens if you use varnish instead of raw? and what happens if you put first oil and then chalk in the bowl for mixing?
Well, the putty should stay flexible for as long as possible so don't use varnish.
Awesome...
5th of june 2023, amidst the great celebrations of Gothenburg city's 400th jubelium, I stepped into this amazing ship and found the most beautiful sailor. On their FB you find a video of him carrying the sail on 112th of june, second man, I am still looking for him.

Lose the music.

Yes Ron is a good teacher!
09:15 put the bag in warm water for a minute, then the putty will empty right off
Wonderful 😊👍🐟🌞
will you be back to lisbon again???

Are there any arguments at times?
Yes there is, bu we always try o solve them fast not to let them escalate. :D But on board we mostly friendship for life.
The sail repair guy is one busy dude. On another video of this he said his only job was working on repairing those sails. I didn't see anyone helping him. Thats a lot of time and effort
We have about 20 people on board as professional crew, all from captain and officer to carpenter and sailmaker. Everyone have their own responsibilities and the sailmaker is repairing sails. Sometimes he gets help too of course but the others have their own work. :D

as a sailship, it's sad that she never actually sail with her full sails on. not even once in this entire journey.
Our top sails are light wind sails and can not be used in to heavy wind. But have a look at our instagram account theswedishshipgotheborg and go to the 15th of August or 1th of June to see the ship in light wind and all sails up. :D

Dreams!
Wow, the chance to crew aboard Götheborg would be amazing!
Today I read about how this ship rescued a small modern sailing ship that lost it's rudder, back in April 2023. Bravo! If I ever get over to Europe, a tour on the Götheborg is absolutely on my must-do list!
What a wonderful and underappreciated video, very cool to see this. Thanks for sharing!
Lovely when you back in the UK?
We loved to visit, but we dont know right now when we will be back.
Thank you for posting this video. It's excellent! Just a few questions: 1. Why is it important to keep the bottom of the large outer chamber cool with wet sand?; and 2. The connection between the drainage hole and the first pipe doesn't seem to be airtight. Do any of the volatile gases/smoke leak out through this area, or do they all get channeled through the first pipe without a problem? Thank you for any insights.
Hope you attend Delfsail next year (in 2024) in Delfzijl, the Netherlands. I would realy like to visit the Götheborg! Greets, T.
