A few months ago, I got to attend a special screening of the movie followed by a live interview with Cary Elwes, where he shared stories and anecdotes from working on the movie. He actually wrote a book about it, which I have, but this was a once in a lifetime opportunity. The entire audience was quoting throughout the movie and we all laughed and cheered. I even got to sneak a picture of Cary right at the end. 🤫 lol. I will cherish that experience for the rest of my life.

Mattie was a drug attack throughout the entire movie. Wyatt tried to help her and asked her to get help. She refused. She just took more and more LAUDiUM. It wasn't his fault. He was an angel for staying with her as long as he did. He never cheated on her, never. She was dead when he went to be with the love of his life. Should he suffer for the rest of his life because Mattie OD'd?

I'm glad you enjoyed the film. It's in my top 10 all time. I was 13 when this came out and I'm from Chicago so I'm pretty much obligated to love it. But it's great that you appreciated the subtle choices John Hughes makes regarding humor. He trusts that his audience is smart enough to get it and he was one of the first fiilm makers to portray younger people from their own point of view, rather than just living in the adults' world.

Hey Cali.... the fictional restaurant "Chez Quis" is a play on California pizza/buffet chain Shakey's. 😀 The scene is also an homage to a scene in The Blues Brothers which featured another fake bistro called Chez Paul. The portion of the parade scene with the synchronized dancers is also an homage to a scene from The Blues Brothers.

Most of the films that John Hughes wrote and/or directed are set in Chicago and the north suburbs. Andrew Davis is another director that films in his hometown...most famously The Fugitive (1991, Harrison Ford, Tommy Lee Jones). He also filmed Stony Island, Code of Silence, Above The Law, Chain Reaction in Chicago. Some of the more famous films made in Chi-Town: The Blues Brothers The Break Up Batman Begins The Untouchables Eight Men Out Backdraft Barbershop Chicago (musical) High Fidelity Cadillac Records The 1992 Mike Myers comedy Wayne's World was set in the Chicago suburb of Aurora, IL...but filmed in Toronto. The 1985 movie Adventures In Babysitting had a few scenes actually filmed in Chicago, but the rest was filmed in Toronto.

This is a great movie for children that parents will also love. A rarity, especially these days. It has great messages without getting sappy or preachy, the humor is crisp, clean, and funny. The action is well paced without being overblown, too violent, or corny. All in all, a great movie.

I love that you decided to video in appropriate attire for a 1940's film. Your reaction showed why it's a classic. There are 7 lines in Casabalnca from the AFI's top 100 of all time most memorable movie lines . The next highest are from Gone with the Wind and The Wizard of Oz with 4 each. Claude Rains (Police Captain Renault) is my personal favorite and Humphry Bogart (Rick) is well Humphry Bogart and cool as hell

Another great Matthew Broderick film is WarGames (1983). Some other great movies filmed in Chicago are The Blues Brothers (1980) and The Untouchables (1987). The Fugitive (1993) and The Sting (1973) were partially filmed in Chicago.

1. Alan Ruck was 29 when filming. 2. Charlie Sheen didn't sleep for 48 hours prior to his scene to get into character, 3. Ah, the days when MTV played videos. 4. IRL Broadrick and Grey had a thing going during the shoot. 5. Not pealing out in front of Rooney would have stopped him from going after Ferris. 6. They have a doggie door, odds are they have a dog. DA 7. This was John Hughes' ode to his hometown of Chicago. John Hughes.😇 8. I'm not in line to be his "best friend" because I wouldn't let him walk all over and/or Bull$hit me. 9. GOOF: It's awfully late in the day to have a full bus load of kids. 10. That same school was also used for "Uncle Buck" and "The Breakfast Club".

Alan Ruck (Cameron) and Matthew Broderick (Ferris) had previously worked together on the stage and so Broderick recommended Ruck for the role of his best friend. Because of their prior comradery, they could already play off each other beautifully. A casting director's dream.

The high school scenes were shot at Glenbrook North in Chicago. That's where Director/writer John Hughes went to HS. All his movies are set in the near North suburbs of Chicago.
