Interesting perspective I do appreciate it. I would tend to disagree because new players should always build the newest teams, their stats are gonna be better and The team will be needed for a legendary.So you're gonna have to invest in them anyway, might as well do it now. But I'm definitely curious to see if they are capable of anything without Captain Britain.

So even if this isn't the best team ever made if it's serviceable, they should still use it. And at some point. Capt. Britain will be available for the general public instead of having to build the entire team. I just need to build him.

I quit the game 3 years ago, and it positively changed my life. MSF changes/evolves so much and so quickly, you can't afford it. You feel the need to be with a good alliance and to feel competitive, but it's not worth it. I was a medium spender but racked up max credit card debt. And I had no other choice but to get out from under it.

The reason this was a dealbreaker for me was because of the precedent it sets. There's nothing stopping them from doing this with a meta arena or raid team to further divide the spenders/non spenders. I'm not sticking around for that. For reference, I was a highly engaged player (top 20 in arena, incursion 2.3 and spotlight 1.2, all alpha flight g18/lvl100 etc). I don't spend on MSF because scopely's valuation of their product is laughable, though I do spend on other games so it's not like they couldn't have made me a customer over the years. They completely removed player agency and my chance to compete, which subsequently removed my desire to play the game.

@@gideonxl660 well until you stop sounding like him anyway haha, personally I think if he was more like the zombies, a 2 star unlock for ftp, so they can have him, and not required for anything, like future legendaries etc, just like a true luxury toon, that if you pay,he will help hugely in all game modes, but if you don’t, it doesn’t hurt your future progression, also just plug and play and not part of any team, I think even if that toon was fully paywalled, it would be ok, but it’s the future requirements, making you feel like your completely forced, which I don’t like, I was going to buy them anyway, but now it’s had the opposite effect

I do think in the age that we are now since everybody has phones, And carries them with them. 24 hours a day a lot of game companies don't want to be like the old-school Candy Crush. Or Clash of Clans, where you do 3 to 5 minutes of play. They want to create habits for you to log in that help you to keep playing. I'm a fan of the more marathon play Style. I want events that last 3 days a week. 2 weeks so you can go at them. When you want when you have time I would like more of that type of gameplay. Do you have any thoughts on that? What would that Game mode or game modes be like?

@AndrewNeal-h9o I agree with you in many ways. But I think that those 5 minute games. There's definitely games like that out there, but they're not really designed to make money and in the information age that we live in now everybody has a phone with them. So like you said, they're trying to get us to have these habits. I'm definitely in favor of events that last multiple days. That way, people can do pieces of it as they see fit.

I finally walked away. I let my alliance know, and it's been two days since I uninstalled. I knew it had become an addiction, but I didn't realize how much so. I literally catered my days around free energy and store refreshes.. I'm free now. I only ever purchased strike passes that involved mutant characters or teams, by the way.

Your numbers are slightly wrong. The most you would need to spend on a character to get 5 star would be 150. $100 for 180 shards, $50 for 100 shards. Youll be short 30 shards but that's obtainable in the release event. Really you could get away with just the $100 offer. For example i got guardian to 4-star (180 shards) from nothing. I just wanted to point out that the #'s were inflated by 50-100% Great video bro. Keep fighting the good fight
Right but that's times 2 because of Hank pym either way. People discuss the old legendary method of star requirements but you could get a 3 star plain and get them to 5 by the time the legendary event rolled around. We would even have a little time to farm those characters before that event. Just cut out the extra and charge more for Captain Britain to what they desire instead of this convoluted way.

They have to justify charging so much for Britain somehow. I think it's really scummy that they chose this character to do this to. Sure there are some looking or needing an out because of the reasons you've outlined but there's something else fundamentally going on here which is causing this to accelerate. Companies have two ways to generate revenue/income: 1.) Acquire New Customers - which is a more costly way to do business as there are marketing costs, etc. that feed into what's called CAC or Customer Acquisition Costs. The higher the CAC, the less profitable it is to get a new customer and you have no idea what the LTV or Lifetime Value of that customer will be. In a mobile game that has mostly F2p players, the CAC is a losing money proposition since you're not gaining any revenue from those F2p players. The percentage of F2p that converts into paying players is typically pretty small. 2.) Expand your Existing Customers - we call this "capturing more customer wallet". This is where you're trying to maximize the LTV of a customer. As mentioned already, percentage of F2p that convert is low. But the P2p players, this is where you're trying to get them to spend more and create a bigger value which causes the original CAC to not be so bad now. The more you can expand the better PLUS you don't have CAC anymore for that customer since they already are one. The problem is that you have to be careful with how much you're pushing the spenders to spend where you can cross a breaking point of no return. IMHO as someone that you know very well has been down this path, is that they have been pushing the spenders harder and harder with escalating costs. You talk about the cost of unlocking and maxing a character. When you think in terms of you're basically buying a PS5 console every time you're building a character, at a certain point this has just gotten way to far out of control. And it's not just a one time thing. You build the character, then level caps increase, or new gear tiers come, or new ISO, or whatever new progression system just to keep that character relevant. So your "initial cost estimate" whether it's right or not, does not reflect how much it will cost to continue to keep relevance. Those costs are also escalating. This is the risk that Scopely has taken. And that's why the blowback is accelerating now. it's not just those looking for an out. It's that Scopely is asking two things: 1. Spenders to increase their spending over and over again on the same thing just to maintain relevance/competitiveness AND 2. Low Spenders they are trying to push towards becoming mid-spenders and they just want to try to find ways to maintain their relevance and all this is doing is pushing them out more and more. Big Spenders account for very little of the companies overall revenue. They need the risk spread out over a significantly larger population (the low to mid spenders). The problem is the costs are escalating too much. If I was McDonalds and wanted to increase my burger cost by one penny, I'd instantly have over a billion dollars in new revenue and the customer base would just blow it off. But if I took a $3 burger and made it $6, people will just go somewhere else. That's the risk and the problem that Scopely has created. It's just getting far too expensive to justify this "hobby" in any form or fashion. This is a mistake imho that Scopely is making, trying to not just capture more money from players but do it while accelerating the costs to play the game. Can't do both and not expect there to be blowback. The problem is this is a blowback that's going to accelerate as more and more quit. Of the 6 years+ I've played, there have been waves of retiring, this one is going to be the worst imho.

I do have to respectfully disagree. The dark dimension characters once they’re released aren’t vaulted. Yes, big spenders get them first but I control my account and when I can obtain them. With captain Britain, scopley said they’re vaulting him. The only characters we’ve seen this with are ZIM and Zuggs. ZIM took a year to be farmable which is approximately when characters aren’t useful anymore. That’s a fundamental shift to character release methods for MSF.

I think if it was like the previous legendaries, somewhere in the 3-4 month range, it’s a nice balance. Spenders still get exclusivity but f2p gets him and get some use out of him. 6 months might be pushing that limit. But I do agree with you, I think a lot of people mad we’re looking for a reason to quit.
And that's 100% OK. Even if people take a break for the summer it's a great time to do something else.

@@gideonxl660 Personally, I dont spend anymore. Last time I brought something in this game it was 2.5 yrs ago. I started this game around Q1(Mid march, I hope) of 2020 and my cousin joined me around July 2020. At that time we both use to spend around $20-$25 per month. And I stopped spending around Sep-Oct 2021. And due to COVID & life he took 1.5yrs break from the game, then he came back. Now he is almost spending $200-$300 per month now. And he is always been with a Top:5-10 War/raid alliance. And I have always been in a Top 20-30 raid alliance(At war we rank 251-300). Regarding that additional $50-$100, it was something my Cousin said when we were discussing about this 5-Star unlock being the new norm.

The game is boring right now. There are no new game modes. It's just a daily repetition that people have grown tired of. We get nothing new except more expensive characters pushed by frustration marketing and fomo. People are tired of this stale game.

You just play the game as normal for milestone points. No regular tower mode or pocket dimension to give us some different content to play. It's just boring.

The players who buy the character unlock offers are paying to keep up. Free to play and pass spenders are content with where they're at in the game. This new development will make it difficult for the players used to keeping up to keep up unless Shuri and Pym are cheaper offers than usual releases. That's why the mid-tier spenders are pissed. And the problem with this new release method is the ripple effect it has. Content that requires Illuminati will be scaled with Captain Britain in mind, not Iron Man. CC will suck for anyone who doesn't have CB. The legendary this team will be required for will be acquired at a significantly lower level than those who don't have CB. The lower tier legendary will impact play going forward from there. Everyone just looking at this as a singular pain point aren't looking at the longer term impact and how this will create a two tier game system. This isn't just Kraken vs. F2P as those two types of players don't interact in this game. CB will affect the middle types of players. The players who spend some like on passes and some of the value offers interact with the players who buy initial offers but don't max them on day one so CB will create a schism between them.

They say this is targetted towards the light spenders. I typically just buy the passes and some 3 dollar offers if they are good but i fail to see how this encourages me to spend more.. tbh im more discouraged and inclined not to care at all

Bottom line. This effects Krakens none, they already spend this. Give them a little exclusivity. F2p and cheap to play, dont like it, but as you said, it wont break them This is full aimed at the $200-300 a month players, aimed to push them to $500+ a month. I think too many Krakens (Taco, Beta, ect) are calling it quits or going casual, so they need to replenish the ranks

I honestly think ppl are upset because of the price. You will buy the toons up to 4 stars and try to do well in their respective event and still not get 5 star. I can use myself as an example. I bought guardian 3 stars and im ranked in the top 3 of arena since Sd came out about a year ago. Im still about 40 shards short from getting my guardian up to 5 stars and i doubt I'll get him there with only 1 payout remaining. What if that was to happen with the shuri and hank pym. I would honestly quit the game. All that time and effort to come up a few shards short now i will have to buy an 30$usd offer to get the remaining shards for both not to mention the offers for CB once you get him unlocked. That's the real reason ppl that spend are upset

I too buy the 3 star unlock for everyone that comes out. Being playing for almost 2 years and spend close to a 500$USD monthly. Its seems like the company is trying to destroy their own game. Someone once said once you start saying price that makes no sense something big is coming. We saw it when they scoply was about to change hands last year. It might be a last ditch effort to cash in on something before their next move. The fact they announced professor x almost a year before he's coming to the games makes me think that after hes released they might start shutting down servers

Great reply, I think the video hit on a great point. Krakens don't care about this, f2p don't care they're used to this treatment. Now, the dolphin/ whale tiers are getting a taste of what f2p have been feeling for years. I personally think this video should be more concerning to scopely than the usual outrage ones. This was a well thought out point that makes the majority of the bell curve of spending players consider stepping off the treadmill.
From what I'm seeing between all the spending tiers is that people in my spending range is in a wait and see mode right now. Krakens aren't really affected, but the light spenders who get the battle pass and maybe a little bit more are in a stop spending mode. Nobody is in a "I'm going to spend more". We really need to get more information on this.

100% agree folks are not happy. But this conversation has been really good. Learning alot about what is actually on people's mind.
For me, I started spending $130 CAD for one big offer on new characters, which gets them for me at four stars, and then once their event is done I usually have them at five stars. Now I am being asked to spend that money up front without knowing whether or not that will get them to five stars in time for that next step in the Captain Britain chain. The issue is zero transparency, zero accountability, and zero trust that they will make good on that final goal for me even if I spend $400 along the way.

I'm not sure what your asking but there are 3 rounds and 8 people in your Crucible bracket. If you lose you matchup you will just play another person from the bracket who has your same record.

Is it better to recruit low level characters to fill out your teams or to leave slots empty? I have nowhere near enough characters for this
Great question. Don't worry about filling up the defensive side. And no need to power up characters you aren't using. Just let the game come to you. Leave the slots empty until you have good teams to slot in. During events like the one happening now, attack as much as you can to get points even if you know you can't win. Don't feel pressure to build teams you're not using.

Great comment, took a few days to think on a response. I definitely agree that Scopley has a business plan and it's laid out for what they want accomplished each day, week, month, year. That's just good business. At the same time we have seen Scopley respond in the form of communication and changes more than I have ever seen in the game. They changed the new player experience making it very easy for people to start playing and they seem to respond to feedback quickly if the community is reasonable and consistent. They want people to spend on the game but the game needs to be engaging for people to do it and they are trying to find that balance. At least in my opinion.
