  Those lucerne stands will be there for decades, forming extensive roots and providing cover and plant matter for the ground. Good rains also provide silt rich waters off the mountains, which provide more 'topsoil'.

  I just subscribed to your channel because you are covering some of the stuff I want to do. I have seen that to harvest you first cut with a mower. Can I use that for grass cutting as well? 2- you rake then 3- you bale. My next question is what implements do you use for preparing the land; from clearing, fertisers, seeds etc and I have also seen you using the tree branches- what is the alternative.? I am a small holder in ZIMBABWE I want to venture into a feedlot or cattle fattening system but before I even think cattle I am thinking food. Thus why I want my implements to be in order. Even if I may not afford them all I will want to have and idea. Thank you for your amazing content

  No, we haven't. We might have to fertilize in the near future, and we'll make sure to mention it then. We usually get about 160 square bales per hectare.

  The way the dust rises during pressing and when the bales fall down, there is not much leaf mass left in the bales, but mostly stems. Goats like to eat such things..... ;)
