BoostedVW Garage

BoostedVW Garage

Gday all, I'm Joel, self confessed Volkswagen Addict and Aussie Macadamia Farmer.

I live on a 100acre Macadamia plantation on the east coast of Australia and am a tinkerer of all things Mechanical and electrical be it household, agricultural or automotive.

I'm into all things car related but my real love is old VWs.
I try to make vids that will be of interest to people but as always it's hard to please everyone.

My farm vids are mainly put up so the friends and family I don't see real often can find out whats happening on the farm and see what I'm up to.

    Thanks for the video. I just did this to a 74 standard beetle since i converted to front disc brakes and replaced spindles and all. I have a feeling I didn't seat the races correctly, new calipers wouldn't bolt on and after doing some grinding and getting them to go on now my wheels won't turn freely after bleeding the brakes. Races not seated correctly probably making hubs and rotors not going back far enough hence the caliper issue and now seized wheel after bleeding the brakes. Sound about right!? Gonna take it all apart tomorrow and seat the races in some more.

    Thanks for sharing your insight!! Super helpful! Just one quick question: where did you actually make the connection? Did you tap into the original wire that extends from the harness that connect to the switch or did you tap into the fuse panel?

  • @BoostedVW
    @BoostedVWАй бұрын

    Hi Edgar, assuming you mean the accessories wire from the ignition switch? My car being Australian built didn’t have that wire at all so I ran a new one from ignition switch plug to the spare #7 fuse.

  • @BoostedVW
    @BoostedVW5 ай бұрын

    Hi there’s a few things it could be, first up just check your wiring, make sure the power from the battery isn’t mixed up with the wire from the ignition switch, if they are back to front that will happen. Also if it’s a relay that has a terminal 87a that will happen, it needs to be on 87 instead. Other possibility is a faulty relay. Good luck

    Thanks for sharing your build. It’s answered a lot of questions I had about the cooling system configuration and line routing. One thing I’m struggling with is how to routing the cooling lines from the frunk to where they attach to the pan. The part where they either go thru all the lca, steering linkages or under, or above then down…I can’t seem to get any good video or pictures of that routing. Can you shed some light on that particular section of cooling line routing? Also, did you run the cold side coolant line down one side of the pan and hot side down the other? Or are both lines on the one side that you show in the video? Thank you! J. (DUNGBTL)

    Completely unrelated to the video, I have a question as I look at the photo of this VW. Why did VW use outside door hinges? Seems like it would easily rust. American cars didn't do that. Just wondering.

  • @BoostedVW
    @BoostedVW Жыл бұрын

    @hull5768 you have to remember the beetles design is from the late 1930s, if you look at American cars from that same era they also has external hinges. VW were just keeping costs down not changing the design but they did use hidden hinges on more upmarket models like karmann ghia and type 3 and 4.

    Hi Andy, the hole was done away with in later models as a security measure to stop people popping the barrel out and using a screw driver. It’s fairly easy to add, you drill the hole in line with the key head in the off position and 13mm in from the edge of the housing. Had to do the same with one of mine.
