    Love your collection! Are you going to do an update video? Isn't that a Baden Württemberg state flag in the background? What's your connection with that?

    I have one of these. Its actually great for spreading food on bread. It is more useful to me in this respect than having to pierce something ,which i rarely do. I wish more SAKs had this blunted blade combined with the smaller blade with a point

    Victorinox SAK ecoline has matte nylon scales with the emblem embossed painted on, regular SAKs has red polished cellidor scales with silver embossed emblems.

    I use the 74mm Ambassador and love it. Don’t need an orange peeler or a second knife blade (3 blades altogether 😱🤣) which is the only real difference to the Executive so the Ambassador is a little thinner. Bought a couple of spare Ambassadors for the future as I don’t expect it’ll last forever.

    The crazy part is that they call it the Handyman, but they don't include a Philips screwdriver? I would think that the Philips would be one of the most common used tools for a handy man...

    If you anticipate needing rhe magnifying glass on occasion, nothing beats the Explorer for edc. If you don't, there are probably over a dozen better SAK options. The Explorer is all about the magnifying glass.

  • @FuglyStick
    @FuglyStick2 ай бұрын

    I mean, yeah, I carry an Explorer every day myself, but I would most definitely warn someone if I was to recommend an Explorer for their EDC thar the price for all that versatility is a tool that is not a "slim" carry. It's the upper limit of what I am willing to carry, daily, as a SAK in pocket.

    I carry a 4 stack Explorer, and that's as large as I want to CARRY, although I think having something like a Swiss Champ in the desk drawer is perfect. For carrying, once it gets to 4 stacks if you need any more than that you should pair it with another tool rather than just getting a larger SAK. Two benefits are 1) the more implements you cram into a single tool the compromised those implements are to conform to the form factor, and 2) you can distribute how you carry those tools as opposed to figuring out how to carry one huge tool. I pair my Explorer with a Leatherman Sidekick. I use pliers and wire cutters quite a bit, and pliers based multi tools just do that job better than any SAK. The Sidekick also has a saw which I use that isn't on the Explorer. And if I need a locking blade I have as well. It's not that the Explorer is inferior in any way, but it has strengths that the Sidekick doesn't, and vice versa. Amyway, that's a drawn out tangent to say that I think some people obsess over finding one tool to do everthing, when their needs would be better served dividing those functions between 2 tools. Some would argue that that defeats the purpose of a multi tool, which is to eliminate clutter, and while that's true, increasing the number of implements on a tool is counter productive if those implements become less effective.

    Dan I don't have an Outdoorsman but I have from the Marlboro line 3 Troubleshooters, 1 Trail guide & 2 Standards. One Troubleshooter & the Trail guide are mint condition New in Box with the original white Marlboro outer wrapping over the original old style dark red Victorinox box & paperwork, a 2nd Troubleshooter is mint condition new in later style red Victorinox red box but without Marlboro outer wrapper & paperwork and the 3rd Troubleshooter is in AA+ condition without box or paperwork and I have it in my EDC rotation. Both Standards (Spartans with no key ring or scale tools) were bought unboxed on eBay and are in AA- condition . You stated the the Marlboro series was from the 1990's however all of mine have the Victorinox front & rear blade tang markings which according to SAKWiki date them as being made before 1986 when the tang style changed and I read on a SAK fan blog (and it is therefore unverified) that from 1988 Marlboro withdrew the series from its catalogue & a few years later with smoking ban legislation coming into effect in some US states the Marlboro coupon scheme & catalogue were discontinued.

    I like the 84 mm size. Spartan/Tourist, Tinker/Tinker Small. The closest to a small Compact is the Waiter. No scissors, but otherwise the same. From what I understand, the Tourist and the Tinker Small, as well as the entire Evolution/Delémont have been discontinued (2023 and thereafter). Sad. The Waiter seems to survive.

    All the 91mm SAKs are UK legal because the blade is under 3 inches (2.75") and doesn't lock (even if it was a 1" blade, if it is a locker or fixed, it's illegal to carry). Even so, with it being a, very rightfully, legal item, there is no trade of them, brand new or used, on eBay UK. Just accessories and oil. In the nanny state UK, there is the overlegislation, government involvement and the laws that are passed AND THEN there are companies and organisations (not 'erring on the side of caution', as I've heard some people put it) erring on the side of going even further than the law requires, in the name of their corporate image and 'political correctness' but how 'appearing to be even stricter than the law' became a trend in the UK that many people and companies follow, is beyond me. I can't understand it; unless it has to do with 'compensation culture' which is a big thing in the UK. No one believes in personal responsibility. Everything is somebody else's fault. Ebay might be afraid that if somebody buys a pocket knife using their website, then cuts themselves or somebody else, their parents, or even the buyer themselves, might sue eBay as being responsible (because if it weren't for eBay, the offender would not be in possession of the knife). That's how weird it is in batshit bonkers Britain. There's no trade in legal pocket knives or multi-tools on eBay but there is on Amazon. Go figure...

    I have an Evowood 14 and love it. The scissors aren't quite as good as the 91mm ones, but I prefer the more bellied blade and the locking function on the cap lifter/screwdriver. And obviously the walnut scales look super smart as well 😊

    Victorinox just have the advantage of incorporating multiple functionality in one tool, for example the can opener / screwdriver / bottle opener combo.

    I've got a Climber I bought in 1976. It was my EDC for many, many years, like until 1998. I still carry it from time to time. It's got a great selection of tools. I put plus scales on a few years ago because I always like to have a pen. Perfect little knife.

    I recently got a 90’s wenger commander that came with the wenger esquire. I didn’t think MacGyver used wengers and mine wouldn’t be period correct but nice to know I got two Macgyver knives, as I have the super tinker. That hook comes in clutch for a makeshift phone case

    Do you know why the CAMPER doesn't include the parcel hook (all-purpose hook)??? The CLIMBER is also a 3 layer tool and includes the awl, corkscrew, and parcel hook. Why is that?

    The thing I love about my Pioneer Alox EDC is the sturdiness of the scales. I had classic plastic scales and wood scales on different Victorinox knives and the thing I hated was that the scales come loose after some time. They don't fall off, but they start rattling etc. No problem with the alox though some they are bolted to the knife and not just clicked on.

    Hello Dan, I am a recent subscriber and found your video very interesting. I have been collecting 74mm's as I lover the size. I have one question to your time stamp approx. 2:00: kzread.info/dash/bejne/mKt4sbV6n7i1qZs.html . Did you have success changing the scales on the old Executive with the sing leaf spring? I have a similar aged (70s) Ambassador with Victoria Stamp and I could not replace the old scales as the rivet holes on new scale were slightly bigger. Could it be that earlier (70s) Victorinox used smaller rivets. Any idea how to get older scaled. Thanks and best regards
