I really like all Victorinox knives in alox but the special editions are uh... yeah special! I own a Cadet and a Pioneer myself in that lovely champagne colour, and recently acquired the Pioneer Winter Magic Special Edition 2020, looks great too in my opinion! Thanks for sharing! 👍

One of my favorite EDCs is a standard alox cadet, not a limited edition. I've modified it by removing the keyring nub and putting an edge on the trailing side of the can opener to make a small hook blade - good for opening packaging.

Great video as always! I carry a SAK everyday. I swore I would never become a collector, but somehow I have ended up with two or three special/limited edition Cadets, and many Soldiers, and no telling how many of the 58mm specials! Please release more videos soon, and bring back the into music.

I think you could strike a spark off a fire steel with that new style nail file. The edge is very sharp.

Sweet SAK, I have 3 cadets, TNP blue, orange and red

The OD green is the only color I really dig, and I wasn't into swiss army knives when they came out so I missed the boat on those. For me it's not worth the extra money, especially on the secondary market. It's cool that they are around, though.

I think, if you like the colour, then the special editions are awesome. What's not to like about Saks in beautiful, not normally available colours? Personally I'd love to see special edition cellador colours as well!

I do collect saks i have only just started though i have a deluxe tinker in standard red scales and 4 huntsman which are in standard red, black, army green camo and the wood scales

Any thoughts on the 74mm line being discontinued? Executive, Ambassador, and Money Clip. I only recently obtained a 74mm Executive and I really like it.

@@swissarmydan9354 That appears to be the case. They're gone from several of the Victorinox web stores and a Reddit user claims to have confirmation from Victorinox themselves. I picked up a few backup Executives in the meantime.

Rock on, Dan. I seem to recall that you were not a big fan of the Cadet at one point. Is it fair to assume that has changed?

I have the 2019 Pioneer

I’ve collected all the limited edition alox knives and I was very disappointed when they changed the line up in 2021. No cadet and no pioneer. Although I do like the tiger orange and did acquire the classic and pioneerX I struggle with buying the hunter pro as it’s not what I consider a Swiss Army Knife. Yes it is a Victorinox but it’s a single blade lockback knife and not a multi tool. Does anyone else feel that way or am I looking at it all wrong?

I just bought a new book on e-bay called Swiss Army Knives, A collectors companion for $9.24 including shipping. I probably should have asked you first for book recomendations, but think I did OK. Are there other better ones out there? Let us new to the Swiss on sources of info. As an aside, I cranked a fellow collector one day about the Swiss Navy lacking in knife power. One of his buds contacted me claiming to own three and provided pictures. The pictures were of Swiss police groups who own boats and patrol lake and river type waterways, like game wardens and they carry knives. I learned when I was about 9 that the Swiss have no Navy but they do guard the pope.

Hey Dan, thanks for the content and you should know you've created another addict. Been collecting SAKs with a fervor recently. I just have one question. What does it mean if an 80s soldier has the plate for the waffenkontrolle stamp but no stamp on it? Does that mean it was a surplus knife that didn't get inspected or what else? Thanks.

I think that means that it was sold for the consumer market the only ones that get stamps or ones intended for the Swiss military

I think I prefer the Bantam Alox to the Cadet as it's extremely thin and light... I don't really see the point of a file without scissors. Having said that I'm trying hard not to buy a black Cadet for a good price and I'm not sure how much longer I can hold!
