Are you ok bro? It's 3 months you don't post, we start to get worried. Please, if you are thinking bad things, don't. It's normal that after years working on a project you look at it and think: "It's this even fun?!" (this phrase was said by the developers of FTL, before they released their masterpiece that earned more than 10 Millions $) It's because you have seen and tried it so many times that the fun is gone (for you). But all the people that have never played it.. they will enjoy it a lot, and they will feel the same excitement of you when you started to develop it. Hope you are fine bro

The blurred grass on the front doesn't look good. This kind of parallax effect is cool, but I think it should be used with more caution and thought. Good luck with your game!

I genuinely want to be able to plug a controller to my brain and enjoy whats in there with other people. I want to play the game I want to make so much.. honestly. I cant care less how much money it makes. I just want enough support to be able to do it.. So me and other people who are like me that are obsessed with the things that I am can just play it.. I think there is so much greed in the industry.

i always wanted to make games, so i give a shit about money. i always belived that you need other people to make games but that is not true. the only reason i wanted money was to hire people to help me built my games. not the case anymore thanks to game engines and online learning.

My mindset and lifestyle: I work hard on my game every day for 5 months. I also train and work full time. I reduce my free time to one hour a day and use the weekend to work on my game for 10-12 hours During the week I get around 12 hours. Weekends if everything goes well to about 25 every week so about 35 - 40 hours. I measure my time on the weekend to try to get more out of it week after week I try to keep my social activities to a minimum because I find nothing more fulfilling than using my time for my goals I get up at 3 a.m. and work on my game 1 and a half hours before I drive to work When I get home I sit in front of my game until I go to sleep, as I said (I shut down the PC an hour before bed) I repeat the same sentence over and over again 3 times a day for 5 minutes ("I do everything for my goals, I am successful") I am grateful every day that I can function healthily and full of energy I am prepared to work in this form for the next 5-10 years in order to achieve my goal. focus patience calm hope and energy that's my mindset...and my life style I love it! (I was a martial artist for years, so don't try to copy it now. My will and my discipline come from 12 years of sport. This comment only serves as an introduction and possibly as an example for you. I'll start creating videos shortly) By the way you can watch one of my fights on youtube (Kampfgeist vs Benzema) Im kampfgeist ;)

Indie devs try to wear too many hats, which is what led to this issue. If you run a business, never sign a contract without legal advice. It is both foolish and irresponsible to all parties involved. Dapper Penguin absolutely is to blame here. They didn't do their due diligence and basically asked to be taken advantage of.

I assume this is meant to be for a mobile game, but I really believe this could be a great opportunity for a great character with a great story arc. The new character has a lot of personality and interest. I would probably try a more dark toned with a lot more shadows instead of the flat cartoon look. But again, I assume it's more of a mobile fun styled game so it works too!

I’m about to be 32 and love video games. I always wanted to make video games… but due to the risk and initial low salary moved to marketing at Saas! I’m in a senior marketing role as of now .. I chose this as this was my second passion and felt easier than video game development and it’s good money. I make six figures now … but it doesn’t get me even half excited as video games. I’m thinking of developing mobile games in a year or 2 while working in corporate and then move full time into game development to pursue AAA titles! Wanted for someone to say- “No it’s not too late.” Thank you! PS- i’m from India

Triple A studios spend millions, have full staff with vast experience and talent years just to make shitty games like star field and new assassins creed. I’m at the point where I’d rather take the time and effort to make my own game exactly how I want and share it with friends once’s it’s done. Not even about money anymore but almost doing it out of spite. Seeing my favorite games like assassins creed get bastardized into what it is today fuels me with so much desire to give it a go myself. On top of that I fear eso6 will be a disappointment so might as well make something myself

I'm a game dev doing this on the side as a hobby. Working on a title for 2 years now and I'll probably release for pennies if I don't go F2P. I run a couple of "IRL" businesses bringing in 10x the income I could ever hope to even if I did have success in game dev, so the financial return is not a factor for me. If half a dozen people pick my first game up and get a few hours of fun from it then that's it's own reward. Personally the romance is about having done it, rather than being successful from it. You're competing against thousands of people like me, unfortunately.

There is an issue with animator.Play(), when you call animator.Play(), it schedules the animation to start playing at the beginning of the next frame. For example: default animation is bullet animator.Play(explode); Debug.Log(animator.GetCurrentAnimatorClipInfo(0)[0].clip.name); -> shows bullet on console animator.GetCurrentAnimatorStateInfo(0).length Animation does not change right away, so animator.GetCurrentAnimatorStateInfo(0).length might not result the correct time value.

Nothing of what is mentioned in the video actually makes you good. One thing that makes you good, is to work on the same game over and over again, instead of trying to do it from scratch. For example, imagine if you had 2 years of working on a game. Would you polish it even more for 6 months and release a new game on top of it, or start a complete new game from scratch which will probably take almost 2 years again? Building a platform on top of the game engine is what makes you better.

It kind of blows my mind how fragmented something like animating sprites feels in modern Unity. Animator controller is the most bloated and clunky system, and in the case of 2d literally provides no benefits.

$30 is for a seriously good finished game in my areas of interest. I don’t care that many AAA publishers think $60+ is their price point. They are competing not only against all the other titles and sales but also with everything I already own. Multiplayer only and early access is serious problem. I have too many big name multiplayer abandoned games that I can’t play. Some were early access and not going there again, especially at $30. My wishlist is games I would consider if I ever make it through my existing collection created via enticing sales. Rarely a really enticing sale on Steam or GOG of a really interesting game will get purchased by me. Single player with cooperative play is a big plus.

Hey there. Love your channel and content. I was curious if you've evolved your animation workflow at all? I saw your video you posted a couple years back outlining your animation workflow in Adobe Animate. I use illustrator currently and animate in Unity, but I'm frustrated with a number of its limitations. I'm considering upgrading from an illustrator license to a all app plan and shift to animating in Adobe Animate. Spine and Spriter are too expensive for a single purpose tool and I like the idea of shifting between AA, AI, and PS as needed. Have you found a better tool/workflow for your process? And yeah, I get it will be a non-trivial change in terms of shifting from skeletal animation to sprite based animations, but as I'm still working to complete a vertical slice and don't have a ton of animated assets, it's not a huge deal at this point in the project. Thanks!

The dudes who founded CD Project RED are not solo devs, they are manager who started with delegating to other people. You would never make better product if do it solo! You have to start delegate! Your job as founder is to found SMARTER people then YOU!

I think its crazy to count on revenues from early access. For example i probably bought early acces only once in my life time and it was only because thousands of positive reviewes on Dyson sphere program saying that there is really lot of great content. Game like this i would definitly never buy in early acces. Time is actually moře expansive than game itself and i hate to loose time on unfinished games.

Popular games that make a ton of money are fundamentally great games, usually passion projects that others enjoyed as well. Too many chumps seeing their success jumping onboard thinking it is an ez money method, but lack the ability to make something even remotely as good. Either they hit the reality of how hard game dev can be, or they are terrible at designing a genuinely fun unique experience. So many mediocre projects or project with not that interesting gameplay/settings. They get where they can make a game well technically, but lack the ability to design one with proper genuinely good fun gameplay, and an appealing fun setting. If you are in it just for the money, you are in for a rough time more than likely unless you fully understand the essence of making a quality game that is actually appealing. Better to make a passion project you truly care about and want to make it as good as possible in every aspect. First of all, you enjoy it more, more likely to finish as a result, better results usually, and generally ironically more likely to gain that very success everyone would love to see. Too much mediocre junk just churned out. Same genre's, chasing the trends, half ass minimal games, and so on. Of course they won't be a crazy hits. Just look at vampire survivor. Terrible visuals and such, but not terrible for the price, but where it shines is in the actual uniquely fun experience that is fairly well balanced. Many games lack even that aspect...

That documentary was from 2008? God I feel old hearing that 😅 That makes sense, tho, it lines up with the year I first started trying to be an indie dev myself! Began with unity back then, then some Unreal 3 until 4 came out. Sometime after that in the 20teens I gave up on the whole thing. Only now really picking it back up, loving the Godot 4 engine and it's just jiving with my brain, feeling encouraged to build something! The game I'm working on started floating around in my head about a year ago, tried some GDevelop for a while and life got life-y again. Now making it in Godot and honestly my goal is to make it and sell a few copies to cross it off my bucket list.
