    interesting thank you! would like to know how you got on with that other module if you did end up using or testing it. have you had any further experience with chinese "fake" power modules?

    Thank you! I still have those FF1000R17 IGBTs, they will be used in a high power Tesla coil this summer. The other BSM100GB120 module is probably somewhere in my garage collecting dust haha. Thankfully I didn't have any further experience with fake transistors, as I am not buying transistors from Chinese ebay vendors anymore. I actually do not use ebay any more at all, but if I ever used it, I would make sure to look for EU/USA sellers.

    try 6 in series-parallel 6.6kV configuration for much bigger arcs. (which can cause flashovers, so to prevent that, put them in oil or use safety gap)

  • @Astri.electronics
    @Astri.electronics Жыл бұрын

    I have bad experience with using more than 2 series MOTs. I've had flashovers even with safety-gap. For example when safety-gap arc quenches there can be short moments when the safety-gap is opened, leading to overvoltage on a MOT. I've destroyed too many MOTs trying to upgrade this power supply to 4S2P combination.

  • @breezetix
    @breezetix Жыл бұрын

    @@Astri.electronics I would put in oil then, some day I will do that once I have a lot of mots

  • @Astri.electronics
    @Astri.electronics Жыл бұрын

    @@breezetix yeah that's a good idea. But the thing is it's too much work. Making a leak-proof casing. Not to mention that it already weighs over 60kg, in a tank filled with oil it would go over 150 maybe? The beauty of MOT for me is that it's fairly simple and robust high voltage power supply. If I wanted something reliable but maybe not as simple to do, I would just design a power supply that's intended for this purpose. Maybe a switch-mode inverter with large ferrite transformer.
