I really like the old time radio detective shows, but they all have one thing in common. The detectives are always being surprised by the bad guys. You would think after a dozen times they would be more aware.

This show is a treasure. Although i liked basil rathbone and nigel bruce. Ronald howard and marion crawford bring a more human version of the characters. I also liked Archie Duncan's version of Inspector lastrade.

I juat remembered the title of the best of the box 13 episodes, the one with Barry Kroger.---'Find Me, Find Death'..

Forst heard these shows on Stan Freeberg's 'old time radio' show in the 1980s and tape recorded them...tho they didnt come often ( Stan played a lot of 'suspense' shows, which were also fine). This os one of the best ones, with Jack ( 'Dragnet') Webb. My favorites are 'Last will and nursery rhyme', 'The haunted Artist' and the one ( cant think of its name right off) with Barry Kroger ( voice a bit like orson wells) as the letter writer who promises to find out the identity of the man behind box 13 and murder him within 3 days...that is the grimmest one...and Kroger was good in any role, tho not given much work in films ( he had a 'radio face') he was great as the crooked lawyer who meets a grisly end in the Richard Conte-Victor Mature film noir ' Cry of thr city' from 1947.

I have a problem with Texas Cowgirl - why does she eat with a ladylike fashion? She should burp and fart, loudly, while laughing - before unleashing her sexual fantasies for Sherlock and Watson. They should be rolling on the floor, arms tied, while she rides the cows home. *sigh* WOKE america always insist on ruining a good story.

Lex Baxter was a fairly good actor but he was a horrible immoral man. The famous actress may not have known what Lex Baxter was doing he was continually raped her young daughter and she had done nothing to stop him. 😡😡😡😱😱😱👿👿👿😈😈😈

The Sherlock Holmes character, along with Dr. Watson, are two of the most difficult characters to portray as actors. This one comes up to the top of the heap as being portrayed in an excellent fashion. The other portrayals are good, but between Ronald Howard and Basil Rathbone, this one is of the higher class. Thank you for providing this.

This series is very good. The 40s versions with Basil Rathbone seem to top them all, but this is remarkably good.

Ronald Howard is a gift to the character. Marion is excellent, intelligent and very human and witty. There is so much chemistry here between them. Basil and Bruce are great but Basil is rash and treats Bruce like a bumbling fool which is too often how Bruce as Watson actually does portray making Bruce look stupid. Jeremy Brent is like a military man, snapping to and rashly charging off into the blue on a whim of investigation. I like Brent a lot, but his Watson seems to be upstaged often which takes away from the "partnership" the two men can be better appreciated if the partnership, Holmes as the logic and insight and Watson following on with medical musings and his input in that area. In this version Watson is more equal and cast as a role appropriate of his professional abilities, not a bumbling boob as other versions often do. Thanks for the posting I really enjoy these.

This film shows some real history of how native Indians behaved in Florida, not the fictional "movie" the current generations are being told to believe, with the Trail of Tears narrative trying to change history. Locations and names in Distant Drums are creatively used, but the story behind that artistic license of how the 2 sides battled was very real. The Indians used ambush means in fighting, including following and attacking troops from behind, and attacking and killing unarmed civilians, while the Federal troops' leadership used deceptive actions and words when negotiating treaties -- that deception in retaliation for Seminole warfare tactics throughout the two Seminole wars. Neither side comes out totally clean in the history of this war, but the Seminole groups were the driver of the bad relations, with their method of fighting. I thought this movie might drag on slowly when I saw its length was above 1.5 hours, but it maintained good story and action to keep viewers' attention all the way to the finish. It's good enough I now want to purchase a DVD version for my movie collection.
