love bootcamp! i listed 5 items had 3 sales! activity makes a differencei do believe! tomorrow is a loose ends day. love your calm - so many youtubers create a “rush”. i dont have the bandwidth for always being hyped. i appreciate you. one of my boot camp goals is to like and comment so you tube will appreciate you too.
Wonderful explanations of the policies you covered. I don't have a store because I try not to have over 250 items listed at one time. Ebay is not my primary income but something I've done for over 20 years because I enjoy the hunt and the education I get from research. Great video!
Vickie I always learn something from your videos thank you for all the information !
Always love hearing that! Thank you, Dolores!
Thank you again for everting Vickie ! xoxo
You’re so welcome! Thank you, Sonia!
Great video with much useful information! Thank You! Can you offer some information in regard to "Promote Listings" feature? Do you use this often?
Glad you enjoyed the video! Sorry, but we do not do promoted listings. Thank you!
This one is PACKED full of information. Thank you
Love hearing that! Thank you, Pamela!
❤❤❤❤ wonderful
Thank you Fran!
As always a big thank you ❤❤❤
Thank you, Linda!
THANK YOU for all this detail! I've been looking for YEARS for a cogent explanation of Business Policies, and you did it!
Wonderful! Glad it was helpful and thank you!
My goodness this was so helpful. When would you recommend as an ebay seller that we move to a store?
Wonderful! As to moving to a store? I would need to put some thought into that. Sounds like a good topic for a video. Thank you!
it’s all very…
Helpful.
Thank you this is so helpful
Glad it was helpful! Thank you!
This has been one of my favorite episodes you guys have done, especially since I am close to your ages. Lots of good info that covers much of where I am at this stage in my life as well. Thank you both.
You’re so welcome and thank you so much!
Vickie... I want those Home Interior flower wall plaques but can't find them on your store. 😢 Do you still have them?
The set was of four? Sorry, they sold a few weeks ago. Thanks though, Becky!
Thanks 😊@@AvanteAvenue
I haven’t made categories yet so I’m glad you included this in the video. I wasn’t sure how to do it. Thank you so much!
Wonderful! Thank you, Denise!
Wow! I must be doing something wrong😮. I'm a fairly new seller and I have never shipped anything other than media for less than 5.95. I just sent a letter size envelope with a few pages from CA TO UT and it cost me about $8. Regular ground.
Have you tried Ebay’s shipping calculator to check your shipping costs? Because I live in Tennessee, shipping to California is the most expensive location for us Texas is right behind that. You said you mailed a few pages in a letter size envelope. If your envelope is less than 3/4 inch thick, including contents, the envelope does not qualify for a package rate and that could be what caused your cost to be so high. You didn’t say, did you buy the postage at the post office? Or use eBay labels? Or some other service? Buying postage at the post office is always high, much higher than our discounted shipping labels. And they would have charged you a higher price if your package was less than as I said 3/4. That’s all I can tell you without knowing more.
Thank you!!!! I finally understand. You’ve explained things so well
Wonderful! Thank you, Heather!
You can bulk edit without a store. You cannot run a sale.
That’s good to know! Thank you!
Another set of great tutorials! I thought I'd check since I don't have a store.....I was able to bulk edit (change) the shipping policy. I had 12 with $4.00 flat shipping. I chose "edit" and in the drop-down it offered "change policy for these listings". It allowed me to change them with a click, to my $4.50 policy. Thanks for making me look!
That’s good to know! Thank you, Lynne!
Wow, so many options. A very educational tutorial.
Thank you, Maggie!
Thank you! I really need this.
You are so welcome! Thank you Lourine!
Those book ends would be cute with a coat of paint!
Probably. We just don't have any time left to refurbish for resell. Thanks Kristi!
I love your videos. I’m trying to list 3 a day.
You can do it! Thank you, Pam!
I hate taking the photos because I have to set up and take down everything. So I batch photos. I’m good at listing 5 a day until I run out of photos. Then it’s a mental wrestling match with myself to get more photos done 🙄🤣
I hear you Kristi and completely understand. For instance, we want to take Thursday and Friday off this week so we need to not only list five today but photograph 10 and draft. I’m lucky to have Mark to help do the photography. I spent many many years doing it all myself. It does sound like you have a plan even though sometimes it’s challenging to get started. Thank you!
Really enjoy your videos. Thank you.
Thank you, Raphael!
Next time, tell them to take the package back to the post office or put it back in the mailbox and write return to sender on it. No label required.
There’s only one issue with that idea. The first to receive the package had already opened it. Opened mail cannot be refused. Secondly, I would have no idea how long it would take to be returned, or if I would receive it back at all. So that would be a lot more risky than using the Ebay labels to get them returned. I also read that if someone refuses a package, they must write on it and put the date and “their name.” Obviously, if they wrote their name on it, it would match the label. I’m not sure if they would actually do that. I just looked it up and was truly surprised that it was still a thing. Thanks though.
I love these boot camp videos. I've learned so much. And I'm getting about 25 listings a week just not necessarily every day. The draft idea is great. My sales are up! Thank you so very much!!!!!
That’s fantastic! Yes, drafts are very helpful. I often make them when I find the item. I’ll take a (temporary) photo of the item and import it into the draft and it will be waiting there for when we get back home to take the good photos and list it. Thank you!
Try this. Make your pirate ship label and send it to yourself in an email that you can access with your phone. Then open from your phone and take a screen shot of it, saving it to your phone. It should save as a photo, which you can then attach to a message.
I like this idea! The only concern I do have is every time I go to print from my phone, I can’t get it printed out to the scale that I want it. I don’t know why, but it always wants to print really large. Even if I try to set a size to print. But, I do really like your idea. I hope though, I never need to use it. Lol. Thank you!
@@AvanteAvenue You won’t need to print from your phone. You just need to attach the pdf to your eBay message.
That was my point in the video. We cannot attach PDFs to messages. I can only attach an image, not a PDF to a message. A PDF could only be attached to a return. I was simply commenting on how when I go to print from my phone in general, I have trouble with getting the size right.
Hi there! Thank you so much for your videos. We just started following you. We are working on starting our own eBay business. We are learning a lot so we thank you for your time in doing these videos. My husband and I are both legally blind, so we may not see some of the things you’re doing. Can you tell us some information about how you do your shipping pricing! Like on the porcelain, for example! You have to do a lot of packing so it needs to be in a bigger box. How do you do your price shipping so that you don’t lose money, especially if it goes to someplace like Alaska.
Thank you and welcome to our channel! First, I want to let you know that I have a video coming out on Thursday, where I talk about setting up shipping policies and how I use them. Calculated shipping for USPS is going to be your solution for heavier, packages rather than trying to set your shipping cost at a certain dollar amount Calculated shipping uses the weight of the package and the buyers location. as long as you’re combined measurements do not exceed 12 x 12 x 12 or 36 combined inches. You’re good to go otherwise it gets more complicated. I have included how I estimate my shipping in many videos, but it’s very hard for me to point out a specific video. Because his question has come up frequently, as of late, I’m going to work on a video this month to specifically addresses how I estimate shipping when listing the item without boxing it. I hope that helps and I can only imagine how challenging it can be to run a business like this and your situation. I’m sure you have some tools available that will help you. Thank you so much!
Great share on the returns. It happens. High risk with eBay because they boost sales in the same category once an item is sold. Thanks for your videos.
I have heard that, that Ebay will boost sales in the same category. But I haven’t really seen it. We have so many different categories and our sales are very random items. We are more likely to get multiple sales in the same state. Thanks!
I am meeting my goal of 4+ daily. Woohoo! Thanks Vickie!
Woohoo! So happy for you! Thank you, Diane!
I am enjoying all of your videos and the Boot Camp videos truly do inspire me to list items. The last two days I have over a dozen items listed...Yay! I also have a question. Do you heat your barn where you keep Ebay items? Reason I ask is that we have a large barn and we do have a Pellet stove that we use occasionally when we open up for barn sales, etc. But I want to possibly store Ebay items in bins out there, but it smells moldy. Any information would be helpful. Thank You! Oh, and I purchased the tape dispenser on Amazon and masking tape...Love it!
Thank you so much! Glad you’re enjoying the videos. We don’t keep our items in a barn, though, everything is stored in our basement. We do have a dehumidifier. It never gets very hot or very cold. But we have to have the humidifier. I agree you don’t want to store your things where it smells moldy because you’ll never get that smell out of things. Thank you for purchasing the tape dispenser! Amazon shows me what is purchased, but I never know from whom. Thank you so much!
@@AvanteAvenue Oh I see. Thank you for the quick reply.
You asked. I’ve answered. Do you use these tools? Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing, Vickie and Mark ~ Avante Avenue
you need to do a video on tips for staying SO calm. You're always very laid back and nonplussed (is that a word?). It's impressive... would love to hear more. Or perhaps that is just your nature and you've been that way since a child? Either way - let us know... cause it's a great business tool in its own rite :)
@@AvanteAvenue I think when we reach this age in life (I'm just a tad behind you I think)... life certainly has brought plenty our way to process, learn from and grow from. I'm sorry you were criticized as a child! That's awful. I'm sure there's a big story there... sorry for the hard. But I do love your calm - at least on camera - demeanor. It's special. And inspiring.
I will say this. Making videos has become easier as I’ve learned to just relax, be myself and talk to you and everyone as I would talk to a friend. Because, I see all of you as my friends and I wish I could meet all of you in person. I would love to put a voice and a face to everyone who comments. There would be lots of hugs going around too. And yes, we all have our life challenges and stories we could tell. That’s why I choose to keep some things private. First, no one is coming to the channel for that and secondly, there is always someone dealing with their own challenges and difficulties. Thank you.
Very cool. I'm trying to get caught up, too, but some health issues are making it slow for me... but I'm getting there!
We all work at our own pace and first and foremost, it’s so important to take care of our health. I wish you the best and Ebay and reselling will be there when you’re able. Thank you!
Thank you for another great video. I've watched lots of resellers. I think you are going to be the one that helps me to actually start listing. Idk what I'm so afraid of. Mistakes I guess
You’re welcome, Gigi! We all make mistakes. I still make mistakes. But I try my best to learn from it and not make it again. Lol. But I do sometimes. Is there anything in particular that you are afraid of? If it happens to be shipping, check out my playlists on our channel because I have shown how I’ve packed hundreds of items. Thank you!
@@AvanteAvenue I'll definitely be watching those. I'll probably watch all of your videos. Listing things wrong worries me some. And the taxes worries me
As far as taxes, watch the KZread channel called “not your dad’s CPA.” He has a video that talks about filing on a “cash basis” that’s the way resellers can file their taxes. And, get a notebook and start writing down everything you buy, what day and how much you spent. And always track your mileage starting and ending when you are doing anything reselling related.
@AvanteAvenue You are such a Blessing! Thank you!
❤🎉
Thank you!
Thank you for showing us all the steps ❤ Most perfumes aren't good for you!
You’re so welcome Gigi!
I am confused!! Why are you packing and wheing as you sell.Dont you do that when you list your item . please explain because that is the part I dont like.I have all these items weighed and wrapped and taking up a lot of room. Thank you.
We see no need to pre-pack. What if a buyer buys multiple items? Then you have to unpack and combine them. Not to mention they would take up a lot of room. I think you said that too. I estimate the shipping at time of listing and I don’t need to prepack it to do that. I weigh it and I know how to estimate the weight for shipping, including packaging materials. I have shared how I do that in many videos. Maybe it’s time to make another video on it. Thank you.
It is now July so time for me to start listing 5 items per day. Will update my status tomorrow. Thanks for doing this. Good motivation for me!
Woo hoo Brenda welcome to July! Can’t believe this summer is going so fast. Yes please do keep us updated!
Regarding income taxes…do you take a “deduction” for these “donations” on IRS return?
I actually addressed that in the video. I wrote off the cost of goods in the year I purchased them (cash basis). There is no write off for donations. (We take the standard deduction and do not qualify to write off any donations plus we file our taxes as “cash basis.” Thank you! “A cash basis taxpayer reports income when it is actually received, and reports expenses when they are paid. The majority of people who file individual income tax returns are cash basis taxpayers. Accrual basis taxpayers compute income when they actually earn it or became entitled to it.”
I have really enjoyed your boot camp series as I am a new reseller with only 7 months under my belt. The one question I had pertained to tax write-offs that you spoke about (when doing your donations). My tax person told me I can't deduct the cost of "inventory" (i.e. things I bought that haven't sold) and claimed I can only write off the cost of what I paid for the total of items sold. For example, say I bought 20 items last year for $200 but only sold 10 items for a cost of $100; she claimed I can only deduct the $100. I am a senior and just trusted her as I've been going to her for years but she also admitted she had never done a reseller return before. Can you help clarify the right way?
You have to find yourself another accountant who does your taxes based upon cash basis. Find the KZreadr “not your dad‘s CPA” as he explains it quite well. “A cash basis taxpayer reports income when it is actually received, and reports expenses when they are paid. The majority of people who file individual income tax returns are cash basis taxpayers. Accrual basis taxpayers compute income when they actually earn it or became entitled to it.”
I'm lucky if I get one listing done. But as you stated this is only part time for us and me too. Have a great day!
We all work at our own pace, Lisa. That’s the fun part about reselling! Thank you!
Love this!
Thank you so much!
I love these, I’m guilty of not commenting!🙋♀️🤦♀️ They really inspire me. I’m in a very busy season & listing has taken a backseat, but I am setting things in groups of five like items. Im going to list five easy today! Thank you for the Boot. 🥾
So happy to hear you’re getting started on your listings, Audre! I love how you’re setting aside five items, five like items to work on. That definitely helps. Thanks for sharing what you’re doing with everyone!
Thank you for your videos very informative and fun to watch!
Thank you so much, Sheila! I love hearing that you find them fun to watch!
I love your videos! Thanks for your hard work! 😊
Thank you, Maxine! Appreciate it!
I am enjoying the boot camp video's, they ars very relatable. I'm listing 5 a day. When I am comping items that I decide to buy I am doing sell similar so I have the draft saved. Then on Monday and Tuesday I do the photo's and last week I started to list my 5 then schedule a few more each day so that when I was at sales this weekend I didn't need to think about listing them. Now I just need to increase it a little more so I am just adding to my schedule listings. Thanks Michaela 😊
Sounds like you have a great plan in place, Michaela! Yes, creating drafts when you find some thing to resell works great! Thank you so much for sharing what you are doing and how it’s working for you!
I don't have a big enough inventory to list 5 items a day, so I try tp do 5 items a week, I have a booth also and I am on a budget, I sold a set of Westmoreland candle holders that I have had listed for a year! Finally, I took and offer,
We all work at our own pace. Congrats Carole on your sale! Woohoo!
Love the term Boot Camp!! I’m going to try and do this on these school holidays. I’m a full time teacher and part time re-seller.
That’s great! Thank you Colleen!
