Religion often tells us that faith is a virtue. We think faith (believing something without evidence) is a poor method for determining what is true, especially in an era when science, reason and evidence continue to provide much more satisfying answers than faith ever has. This is a page that challenges the claims of religion and encourages all to reject faith, to be unfailingly curious, and to keep thinking.

AI, in it's current form, is no threat. GAI, or General Artifical Intelligence, is the thing to be worried about, and we're a LONG way from that
It always intrigue me that people become agnostic or atheist in the adult life. What took you so long. I lost my weak faith at 10.
Be it Lent, Ramadan, or a host of other "Holy Days of Atonement", these are all governed by predominately male ideals and rules. It just occurred to me that regardless of the acts of self-restraint that members must exhibit, not one, that I am aware of, dictates that it's members must give up sex during this time. Taking in nourishment may be forbidden, but men are free to fuck their brains out.
Absolutely loved this. ❤
Great job as usual Seth. I’m more and more positive every time I read the comments and see recent former religious people added to the secular world. Superstition is not the way to
I'm a 65 yo retiree who's lived in literalist, fundamentalist southeast Mississippi all of my life...I'm not a believer...I'm atheist...the cracks for me began to form in my teen years...too, unlike 98% of the indigenous, I'm university educated (undergrad/grad degrees), which means I put a premium on rationality...I've been ostracized for decades...but I tell them all I'm not the enemy...other Christians are Christians worst enemies...I hear how they talk to and about one another...most people truly are too ignorant to know what they don't know..."fundie" religion is one of the most divisive institutions that I can think of, next to politics - which work hand in hand...you often wish you could just snap your fingers and all of this religious nonsense would go away...but of course it's not...as complicated as it may seem, the bottom line is people get their religion on their mama's knee.
Non religious spirituality...I love it and so true. Truth is, every single human being is a spiritual being and has a cosmic Divine origin, regardless of religion, belief systems, orientation, identity, etc. The problem is that the Divine spark is frozen and dormant in most people. It takes a lifelong process of Self Realization or spiritual awakening to purge and clear the darkness and primal repression that prevents us from realizing our True Nature. I am not a theist. I don't identify with any belief system. Peace.
I used to like Joe, but when he went full Alex Jones and started shilling his own bs supplements, I really hated him since then

Or Judaism. Why?
Yeah, no, gonna have to disagree on #10. The difference between religious oppression and non-religious oppression is like the difference between formula racing and kart racing. Without a religion telling you that you're superior and the *other* is an acceptable or even demanded target, it's a whooooooole lot harder to drive people into acts of atrocity.
No holy books written by women? A screw them...who cares what they think, its not like they can impose their will on us
I didn't last very long on Facebook...it brought out the worst in me...I've been off of it for years now...egos do not care about ultimate truth or reality...it only cares about self preservation...I'm a 65 yo retiree...I really do not care to be around people anymore...I stay home to my self...I like it this way.
pillow humping :) as a guy is the best
Interview The Muslim Skeptic, next.
isn't that the reason the worst things make the news and headlines, b/c it is rare?...I wake up everyday, and life just peacefully rolls along its merry way...yes, there are interruptions in our lives...personally, I simply refuse to give in to the fearmongers...just not my experience...it's so simple: just treat the other person the way you want to be treated, viz., with kindness, understanding, and consideration.
"Faith crisis" is an interesting term...I see those with faith as having a rationality crisis.
8:00 It's complicated.
@28:27 Seth in some muslim schools (remember "Infidel" by Ayaan) students are forced to memorize the entire Koran. It is primarily what is taught in the school. They know their Korans better than their science books. That might not be the case in western countries but also remember the YTube video of Richard Dawkins trying to teach a class in England and the pushback from both the muslim and christian students.
Wonderful interview!
Always interests and kind of flabbergasts me when I hear someone say they had to deconvert deconstruct. I truly don't understand. I know that people were indoctrinated my family and culture. I don't know if it was the very first day but I know it was early on at least, I was in catechism class at 7 or 8 and I was thinking, this is pure nonsense. This doesn't make any sense. None of could have happened. I think I questioned whether Jesus was real. I had to go to catechism for 5 years, never got indoctrinated into the religion. I sat in classes thinking these idiots are either liars or idiots. Who could believe this fantastical stories that defy reality? Edit: okay kids believe in Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny because their parents indoctrinated them, but they drop that belief. I don't understand confirming to believe religion's fantastical stories on your teens and as an adult. I knew nonsense at 12. I didn't understand adult belief them and I still don't at 71.🤷🏽♀️
Great video Andrew that you did must see by everyone "the story of you"
How do I know your own, personal, private, particular, infinitely-alterable version of your favorite brand the silent, invisible, undetectable, untestsble god who just happens to be the most popular one where you were born isn't real? Call it a hunch.
I can't tell the difference between a Jewish person and a Muslim, and I know the differences between a Jewish person and a Muslim.
As an ex-ethiopian orthodox christian which is a sister church of the coptic orthodox church and now an agnostic, i resonate with this gentleman. thanks for bringing him up!
Things that cause harm always caused harm, whether or not it was 1000 years ago or yesterday. The social acceptability of the harm in one era does not change the objective facts of the harm. Having sex with immature humans is harmful. Always was. The slavery argument fails in the same respect. Making humans property is harmful. Always was.
Islam is the worse ever , sycophantic racism full with hate speech for the other Millions of ex Muslims living in Muslim communities .
Demented, totally mental.
I am a big fan of Nuriyah Khan and Daniel Murray, outspoken in service of the most important and urgent cause today.
Go Erika! I think apes and other primates are fascinating and I'm not ashamed to be evolutionarily related to them.
Let's see ... God dictated the Quran to Mohammad - hmm - so was that via telepathy, face-to-face, heavens to earth ... morse code ... now why is this reason for skepticism? The reality that Adam can't travel to Egypt because he'll be arrested for his religious or non-religious beliefs is reason alone join the reason-based secular community. Interesting guest today! 😊
Ex muslim here. I'm now at that crossroads between spirituality and letting it all go and sit in my atheism. I'm at this place because I had such a horrible time internally and emotionally being muslim for almost 30 years. I keep thinking that spirituality would be me back to that horrible place and perhaps atheism can free me altogether from thinking soke being hates me.
Stay safe and find community. There is peace without superstition.
Stay safe and find community, There is peace without superstition.
My suggestion: first have a strong inner compass pointing you towards what is right or wrong, and try hard to error on the side of freedom and justice. Let people do what they want as long as they don't hurt others in the process. Second look towards science and rationality and ethics for your answers and let religion go the way of astrology and divining rods. Discard any type of supernatural claim. Believe me I was a jesus freak and letting go of virgin birth myths and a hell etc was difficult but has resulted in a deep feeling of freedom and a strong sense of self. In your case you would need to discard the attractions of dawah and the morally superior feeling of not being an infidel. Have you read "Infidel" by Ayaan Hirsi Ali? Or "unveiled" by jasmine mohammad. or "now they call me infidel" by noni darwish. or "son of hamas"? Strongly recommend them
Stay strong, stay rational. It will lead you to a worldview that can give you the confidence that you have the most correct methods for finding truth.
Religion began when the first con man met the first fool - Mark Twain
Honestly Adam's pages are full of Christian evangelists preaching and insulting Muslims, they resemble AP's followers. Maybe if he is a secular humanist / atheist he should make it a bit more clear and avoid attracting such toxic audiences.
Another brilliant podcast. Thanks Seth!
Trying to connect you directly. I'm a technophob. Please excuse me. You have my email address please contact me.
It's amazing, to me, how convoluted all religion is. The Jesus story, where he had to die for our sins. Doesn't make sense. Islam is no different. Restoring the connection between god and man. God can make the connection any time he wants. Doesn't make sense.
Oops Sydney lol I was close :-))
So interesting to me, the evident struggles people have in their relationships with religious belief. Although raised in a very religious family, I can't say that I ever took it seriously or believed the claims of the church. I simply never internalized any of the dogma. My parents were wonderful people. They were moral, ethical, and tolerant. I'd like to think those life ways became a part of me. But their beliefs in the supernatural? Not one bit.
Simply research prewritern history for a better analysis. Just saying
An informative and interesting discussion. Thanks Seth and Adam.
I'm guessing you're in Canberra.??
Excuse me Adam my writern English is poor. I would like speaking to you in person. I'm very simple. Everyone is an individual and must be respected. Same for our fellow critters.

I generally follow politics. Your channel is a pleasure.
I have lived in Australia from 1962. Born in England. Muslims are seriously disadvantaged in Australia. I don't hide my id. I live in Batemans bay. You are always welcome. I'm self educated without any religious beliefs.
He would not disrespect his heavenly father wearing tight pants, but he would disrespect him using all of that alcohol. So what's the difference between tight pants and imbibing copious amounts of alcohol.
I am an evangelical Christian and I am thrilled that Muslims are here in the West in large numbers. Most Muslims are grossly misinformed about Christianity. Many are becoming Christian.
We need to stop flying around so much.
I worked for a JW for a few months in 94. Most dishonest person I have ever worked for, and he was an elder at his churchy thing.
