My answer let me see, Mr crissschun. Morality. - the genocidal rapist, racist bible g0d uses unknown magic to install morality on my brain. - a more logical deity, f.e. Lady Justice (Iustitia) does it. - or it is an evolved trait in every social animal, f.e. Homo Sapiens. Animals evolve. Social species exist. Just sayin'

the problem with this question is, why are some people born without morals? if morals come from god, then everyone should be moral. the fact that some aren't just proves that it's just a choice. i choose to not murder people. that's it that's all. i could if i wanted to. morality is a man made term. everything we do is based on choice, not morals

It was Mark Twain that said "I can live 2 months on a good compliment". The simple recognition of another Human can speak volymes. I have a toy horse head on my mobiliy scooter, like a stick horse. It is there because it gets people to smile, and I smile too. If we had more of that we would have less conflict.

Jose, I came out both as an atheist and a bisexual to my very religious Greek ex-husband in March. It was terrifying but he is also my best friend. None of my doom and gloom scenarios I was imagining came to fruition! I hope that if you end up coming out, I hope that it will be as a positive experience as mine! You never know, they might surprise you!

I came out to my immediate family as lesbian and my mom almost sent me off to a conversion therapy camp. My sister called me mentally ill because of it. The only reason they didn’t send me off is because ‘I don’t show gay tendencies’; that and I treated violence against them if they tried. Jose, be careful. You’r parents might not actually be as great as you’re claimed.

I usually see one or two examples of simple courtesey whenever I go into town down here in "rural" Australia. Small things like holding a door or letting someone with five items in front of you at the checkout when you have fifty in a trolley. (I do that one quite often.) Or giving the trolley to the trolley guy as they go past instead of making them go get it from the other end of the parking lot.. Or giving the empty trolley you finished with to the older gent who's looking for one. Hell, just looking the checkout tender in the eye and saying hello will leave 'em a little flustered and smiling sometimes, especially on a bad day. A sentence like "You look like you're having a rough day" or "Turned busy all of a sudden" or something is a simple way to connect with and reaffirm the humanity of the one working the till or bagging your groceries. Unfortunately we had a rash of "I'm so independant and I demand everyone realise that!" types who would scream the house down if you held a door or offered other simple gestures like that to, so being polite fell out of favour for a while, but decent behavior still pops up from time to time despite the asshats.

It has everything to do with everything that's going on Seth...too much hate, too much division, not enough compassion/empathy now. I try to spread the love when I can...I've retrieved items for people off the higher shelves at the store, I do hold the door, it's just kind to do so, and for gosh sakes look people in the eye and smile! What a nice smile I usually get back when I do. Another thing that I've learned to do is remember the name of the person I'm talking to on the phone when I have to call the bank, a business or any such thing. I hear the appreciation in the person's voice when I use their name. Sometimes their voice brightens right up and the call, which maybe I don't want to make and they don't want to take to begin with, is a nicer experience. Some of those jobs are boring, thankless, and soul sucking. Using their name is a little thing that tells them you heard them, and maybe they do matter. Be kind, it doesn't take much and you could make some one's day that much better🌸

Seth: 1. I have a Russian Blue medium hair cat. I have had to shampoo his buns on several occasions. He doesn't like it but he lets me do it. I'm sure he knows I'm helping him. He also has a chronically teary eye due to a malformed tear duct. I clean his face on a near-daily basis so he's used to me helping him to wash up. 2. I love how you do the pro photographer tricks when helping others. Good light, Horiz or Vert, adjust the pose take one and then a spare or two. People really appreciate that kind of attention to detail. Before I became disabled I was a pro photographer. Even now people always seem surprised when I set up their pics. "Wow you really are professional." 😂

I have what I have called for Pawla's first 10 years an "arm's length kitty". She was fine being near, but not close enough to be touched. Then, suddenly, overnight, like what Seth spoke of, Pawla became a clingy lap cat. I have no idea what changed. I'm usually appreciative of the change, but I'm a chronic pain patient and even (often especially) light touch can be painful. Sigh. Poor kitty doesn't understand this, though. Sigh.

Hey Seth, I doubt you'll read this one, but.. Old jumper. If your cat is really freaking out and absolutely must be restrained, get an old jumper with long sleeves and stick it into an arm. Possibly trimming the sleeve a bit if it's a big cat. The more the cat squirms, the tighter the sleeve. Leaves both ends free-enough if you need to tend to 'em. Won't hurt the cat, but he'll be pretty ticked off. So use in extreme cases. I have scars from hand to shoulder from ticked off cats who were rather emphatic that I wish I had proper restraint for. A towel comes undone a bit too easy. Two people to hold one if you can manage it. And I suggest the 'squish that cat' method also if need be. (Press down on the back to push 'em into the belly-to-the-ground position and a cat will usually deflate and hold still). All cats are different though, so yours might react oddly. Clawtips can be nipped off with nail clippers also if you're super-concerned. Just the leading millimeter (1/8th of an inch) or so. It can often be the difference between being scratched up and bleeding all over the place and wondering if you need stitches. Hind claws will be the worst.

For clarification; faith services of different sorts are provided by the Army, during basic training. That said… you can actually get dog tags with “Jedi”, as a religious preference. They don’t really care. After a while they loosen the reigns, and let people go to church. One day, I noticed a group had a couple hours off once a week, and that’s where I got an extra couple of hours of sleep every week.

I had to hear a lot of there is no atheist in Fox stories before I end up with agnostic on my dog tags against my wishes

As an ex-Christian myself, raised going to a Southern Baptist Church in Texas (it was actually a little lax bc they were comfortable that they had a stranglehold), I still feel so sorry for what you had to go through. But, as the mother of a boy that barely talks to her (IDK why b/c I was through with religion shortly after he was born and I'm pretty sure that has nothing to do with it), I think you should check in on her once a year to see if she is ready to follow your boundaries. and why? Bc you've still spent a large part of your life with her and I'm sure she still loves you. Despite and bc of her indoctrination, she's just slow to realizing you are an adult and things have changed.

Regarding one of the callers, I couldn't find anything in Ezekiel 18 or 19 about god speaking with other gods, but I did notice that in Ezekiel 18 there is at least a hint that violating your neighbors wife is wrong. The R-word didn't make Deuteronomy, but nice to see the issue gets some attention, somewhere... sort of? Yay? I mean, I know it has more to do with property, but I guess we have to take what we can get. LOL As to Nex... I was not non-binary, but growing up I was a skinny kid who got beat on and bullied to the point where I considered suicide on more than one occasion. (Nobody gave a crap then, because Latchkey Kid Generation and we weren't really supervised.) But I can understand Nex's state of mind maybe better than some. That sense of hopelessness and aloneness is incredibly hard to explain to others. People need to be held seriously accountable to what happened to Nex.

Saying God isn't going to cure your cat reminded me that one of the things about religion that I always found odd was asking for prayers for those who were sick and injured. If God is controlling everything, didn't he make them sick or allow them to get injured? Why would a bunch of people asking him to heal them change his mind?

You know what just got to me? I'm so conditioned by pastor stories that I was expecting that story about the tip to have some ulterior meaning. Maybe she would reject it because she enjoyed her work, just like we enjoy the work for the Lord. Maybe you realize you didn't do enough for her, and she needed Jesus more than that money. Maybe it's "planting a seed" to witness to her later. I genuinely wasn't expecting it to just be a nice story about 2 people having a moment for no reason other than to be happy. And I've realized that I still think it's wrong to make someone else happy because it makes _me_ happy and _I_ want to do it. I still knee jerk and tell myself that's not genuine, and that I need to do it for a higher reason. Thanks, Seth.

I couldn't disagree more. Sure dogs are easier to bond with, but that just makes it even more special when you bond with a cat.

@@hannahbrennan2131 Dog person here and while I don't dislike cats necessarily, I've only had one and I acquired Ribbon when he was full grown and I already knew he was sweet. That's the thing with kittens - no matter how well you raise that kitten and how nicely you treat it, you might still end up with an asshole of an adult cat who hates everything with a pulse. I guess I like cats who behave more like dogs! Ribbon was super cool, very chill and about as aggressive as a couch pillow. Also: litter box feet on the kitchen counters are gross. I worked with a woman who had four or five cats, and no one would ever eat any of the food she brought for office potlucks. We'd all seen the photos of her cats sleeping on the counters.

@@kayanneyoung9788I'm like you in that I'm more of a dog person, but I don't dislike cats. I find cats strange, because kind of what you said, no matter how well you raise them and how much you love them, there is a little killer inside every cat. It's instinctual with them. Dogs are more similar to humans in temperament and nature. We bond with dogs easier because they are more like us. Cats are like little killer aliens. I remember the mother of the cat we ended up adopting over thirty years ago used to leave bloody, dead rabbits outside our doors as a "present". Yeah, cats are strange.

I think the actual number of atheists is quite high in the United States. But making the mental jump from agnostic to atheist is a painful and frightening admission. I went from Bible thumping to atheist in an instant, in my church, at 11 years old, when I realized that my pastor had absolutely nothing to offer me except that I should pretend to believe until it becomes faith.

Heck, even admitting to being agnostic is enough. "I don't know" is an acceptable answer to some questions. I know I'd much rather admit ignorance than commit to an untruth. It seems like most don't openly declare atheism mostly due to the fanatics demonising the term. Which is why we seem to be getting 'nones' instead. It hasn't been deraded enough yet. What we really need is for belief systems to be opt-in instead of opt-out. Get some properly representative numbers going. Only reason to fudge numbers is if you're scared of what they might show.

There is no such thing as a pet cat! The cat is the boss and you’re the cat’s pet human!!! Cat rule the world! Cats are a scientific proof the earth is not flat, otherwise cats would have pushed everything off the edge!!!
