★ Ahoj všem! ★ Thanks joining me on Dream Prague! I’m Jen, 💁🏼♀️an American living in Prague, Czech Republic for the past 9 crazy years. 🤪What is living in Prague like? What are Czech people like? Is water really cheaper than beer? I’ll tell you all that and more. . .from an American perspective. Each day, I solve a new mystery about Czech culture, conquer some new Czech bureaucratic nightmare (just to stumble upon a new one 🙇) and get better at this whole expat thing. 🤞🏼
I’m here to share stories about bridging the cultural divide between 🇺🇸American🇺🇸 and 🇨🇿Czech 🇨🇿culture and practice my Czech language along the way (if I can do it, so can you!)

Američané jsou národ hlupáků....Ty jsi trochu výjimkou. Přeji krásný den 🌞
Czechs better football players Slovaks better ice hockey players
Kratochvilova ,the steroid athlete was she or he czech or slovak?
Czechoslovakia 1976 Euro championship winners had mostly Slovaks in the team
Enjoyed your video, but you really need to get your facts straight. Too many falsehoods to cover here in comments.
Second picture is smaženka not chlebiček. It is an egg omelete on a bread wih pckle, onion, and red peper. To add to information on the symbol of keys and shaking them on Vaclavák meant return the keys, leave hand over the power.
The Czech republic was afraid of the Germans The Slovaks were afraid of the Hungarians So they combined into one around the time of WW1 But forward to the formation of NATO a lot of these fears are gone I suppose they could have stayed as one but both have enough to be proud of on they're own
Naturalist is wrong.Naturist is what nude bathers are called. A naturalist is someone like David Attenborough. Americans are immature.
Nejlepší,je,cestovní,pas
Must be hard to... umm... pleasure yourself with an American showerhead.
It is clear why the Nazis fled to the Americans and how the Americans used the Nazis for their own needs. Liberal democracy LOL. The Czechs should be grateful to the Russians for enabling them to drive out the Germans after a thousand years, so that 1968 is a small inconvenience for that service.
The American in us dictates we have a dryer and I don’t understand why more people in Prague apartments don’t. They are not that expensive and get rid of the permanent drying rack. I’m surprised you don’t!
Common Market??? Did you mean the ‘European Union???’ Ummm, and you’re going on about Americans who enquire about your experience of visiting Czechoslovakia?
Can't speak for Kansas (but I bet they have them too), but in Little Rock Arkansas the sirens go off every Wednesday at noon. Need something reliable for the tornadoes.....
Prekvapive!
Interesting to hear it from a POV of an American....As a German...it is basically just the same as here xD
Interesting about "huh huh huh", as you describe the sound in English😊. From the context you seemed to imply that it is a sound used by Czechs when they are thinking --- they are expressing either hesitation 'hmm' or understanding something 'aha' (sounds like aham and with closed mouth shortend to uhmm'). Words hmm and aha have the same meaning in Czech as in English. Debunked 😉
"Mom, Mom, I don't want a little brother!" "Shut up and eat what's on your plate."
''huh huh HUH'' is something i do all the time and i don't know why
SOME COOL ASSESMENTS ON CZECHS, BUT AS A MORAVIAN I LIKE TO THINK WE ARE A BIT DIFFERENT FROM THOSE SMART ASS BOHEMIANS......DO NOT PUT US IN A SAME BAG.
I tried but never again.
The most difficult point is that it is very difficult to integrate well into a purely Czech company. I barely speak Czech (my level is around A2) and I was the only foreigner in the department. Although all colleagues were fluent in English, my impression was that they didn't want to speak English with me. There was a 30 year old kid who was fluent in English but no matter what language he spoke, he was a very bad person (e.g. always complaining about other colleagues and he thinks he is the best there etc.). In the end I was actually fired and I think the reason is just I was always alone. My boss said he hasn't seen anyone for last ten years who could not extend their employment contract. And I was the first person not to be renewed. I saw that they are looking a new person after me but I will see how long it will take... They searched me about one year when they hired me. Since I am fluent in German, I am currently preparing for a zivnostensky list to work remotely for German companies. The salary in Czech Republic is Eastern Europe but everything is expensive like Western Europe. My ex salary was about only 50000 czk brutto...
only 50k? how only, most of czech population can barely get to 45k
and even that aint usual, 35k is normal
My grandparents emigrated from Bohemia (Austria) 130 years ago. We have reconnected with cousins and visit from time to time. They have nothing good to say about the communist occupation. They are big supporters of 'Europe' but very proud of being 'Czech'.
Gratuluji!!🎉❤
The Cyech kezboard is completelz fine. I don´t know what zou´re on about.
The girl on the train was giving you major stink eye. LOL but I think I would like it over there cuz I'm a very quiet person and I don't like a lot of noise. Typically Americans are too loud for me and I'm American
I don't think all Americans are alike. I'm not like that. I have always had a good work-life balance and if someone starts trying to push my work balance over the edge I will make sure that they know where my boundary is. I make good money but I work smarter not harder. I just chose the job that supports my lifestyle. I really want to go to Prague one day. Sounds like an amazing city to be honest
Netrpeli sme 40 rokov pod komunistickou stranou a jej vládou.
Well, there definitely is an American mentality. It has a lot to do with the fact that you guys dont normally care what people think of you.
Best part's you're ironical and exaggerates your stories. That makes you even more czech. Ketchup story made me laugh a lot.
If you find the Czech mentality odd, why don't you return HOME?!? We don't need foreigners who critisize our mentality or whatever!!!
I dont do any of these. Lol
Kde jsou nova videa? :((
Yuck. Feminism, that's fcked up!!!!!!!!
I did one of last hop brigades back when I was at school before it was cancelled by czech school ministry. It was a blast. Underage drinking was ok back then and we all did it with our teachers. Anyway, yes, we were paid for our work. However, me being naturally lazy, I think I was the only one who came home from this week-long trip with debts :D
I feel like the word štamgast is even "higher" than "a regular". Štamgast basically means you are the breadwinner for the hospoda. In a lot of pubs you will find tables reserved for štamgast only.
kdo maze ten jede
I think it´s not so big issue. Well, of course the meaning changes if you pronounce it long and short in these examples but that´s why there is the mark above the letter. And you just have to know the difference. But I don´t think we have so many similar words distinguished just by this pronounciation in Czech. More I learn English I find out that Czech is not so difficult. We have less words, not so many synonyms or not so many of them used commonly, and just three tenses. Yes, we have seven cases and a difficult system of declinations and conjugations but if you master the basic rules and patterns for the words then it´s quite ok. A lot of Czech people have problems with mě and mně. If you say it, there is no difference in pronounciation and if you write it wrong nothing so serious happens and you can always correct it via some application. The rule to distinguish mě and mně is simple. 2. and 4. case - mě, 3. and 6. case - mně. You just have to learn the cases and then it´s easy. Well we also have many exceptions and those prefixes and suffixes but it´s not a matter of life and death. it just needs some practice. The last thing. I really don´t think the pronounciation is so big issue in communication with the Czech people. If you say "Kopilá sém novy být" instead of "Koupila jsem nový byt" which is correct, you just make the native speaker laugh but he understands.
The whole underdog thing is in my opinion misunderstood. Czech people are simply not as polite as other countries because they prefer honesty. So pleasing people don't necessary make them to like you
A pak Marie Terezie samozřejmě - zavedla daň z komína, každý, kdo vlastnil dům s komínem musel platit, takže bylo třeba soupisu všech komínů.....
Am I missing the next video(s)?
American viewer here. I can name any country you point to, and point to any country you name. So how about getting off your fucking high horse?
I work for Czech Post and we handle bank slips all the time. There's different slips for sending cash to someone, sending cash to a bank account, sending cash to another post office, setting up or changing standing payments for people without internet banking, sending money between bank accounts... It's also how many people without a bank account receive their pay, pension or allowance from the state. And it's not just old people using these, especially the ones to send cash to a bank account, for example to pay rent and energies. MANY Czechs don't trust banks and the internet, and they're happy to pay high fees to do things in a physical and analog way.
