Brave decision. I’m trying to learn Czech right now, and for the first time in my life, I can understand how Frenchmen, Italians and English speakers must feel when they learn my native German. I got fluent in all those three as a teenager and thought it was fun. Now learning Czech is something I only do for my pleasure - but it’s an exercise in masochism.

Jen, In February 2023, I innocuously searched KZread for 'Czech News in English' and came across your parody video "America's #1 Source for Czech News" video. This simple discovery completely transformed my life last year. I went on to watch several of your videos and learned about iTalki. This led to me signing up for Czech lessons to resurrect a basic start I made to the language almost 30 years ago, and also rekindle my study of the German language which I had not seriously studied since my teens. I cannot tell you what a transformation your channel has had on my life. I have weekly Czech classes with my teacher and I study the language daily. Studying languages again has brought a new vigour to my life, improved my overall wellbeing and alongside your channel, has rekindled my love of all things Czech. I never imagined that one simple video discovery could have such a massively positive impact on my life. I am delighted that you will be producing more videos in 2024 in Czech. Thank you for adding subtitles to them. I wish you every success in your goals for the year and will be eager to see your progress. Good luck from Ireland.

As an American who lived in Brno for less than 2 years, practiced Czech for about a year (and was addicted to your channel), it was enjoyable to listen to your Czech. I was able to hear all the words and understand, as opposed to native speakers who simply can’t slow down. By the way, I thought the reason you started this channel a few years ago was to learn Czech. It seems your new goal is a natural next step. Good luck!

I still plan on making one English video a month with Honza, because I know there are some people who watch to learn English. and also I have so much to say that I can't quite express in Czech! But I had to make a choice. Making videos takes so much time, and it was truly getting in the way of my Czech improvement, ironically. So I hope you'll stick around for those fewer English videos!

I’m so excited for you to be a part of Toastmasters. I’m on a current hiatus due to having small children but was a member for over 20 years. It was life changing in many ways and I also met a lot of really interesting people who were likeminded in their pursuit of personal growth. I’d recommend you video your speeches. I think you’ll be amazed by your progress and growth. It’s also interesting to visit other clubs when you travel if you can fit it in to your schedule. I also loved that you alluded to the fact in one of your responses that you are making changes to your channel so that you can combine your language learning journey with making videos. I’m trying to get better at combining activities too (for example reading for fun in foreign languages rather than English). It often feels like there aren’t enough hours in the day to do everything we need and want to.

Coming from someone who attended one example session with Toastmasters and is native Czech and fluent in English, I would translate what they do/practice as "projev" not "přednáška." Přednáška is more of an educative speech, they focus more on public speaking techniques not necessarily always with emphasis on the educative aspect of it so projev seems more fitting in my opinion. :)

Obviously, when you speak it's not good to correct immediately as the communication/understanding is most important. I am sure it's one of the rule, if you do grammar exercise, then correction are absolutely fine. Talking is very different.

Yep, quite hard. The hard part is that it takes so much knowledge just to say one sentence properly. In that way I think it's easier to have basic sentences in English.

Go for it! Czech is easy. It’s like a Lego in fact. Trust me, I made it myself 😉 Don’t quit this channel, I love it. You have a great perspective and Good eye for things, which people who live here for a long time don’t notice. And last thing from me. I remember one your video where you was talking about Czech people always correcting foreigners because they are not used to accents. It’s not because of that. It’s just a way they are trying to support you and help you learn this language right on the first try, because fixing wrong habits is much worse than learning them right from the start. I was happy for that because it helped me more than anything else. Group of people who were constantly correcting me. 🤗

Relax your muscles while talking.. no need to be too stressed A small humble advice … instead of those online one to one try yo go out with a native friend on a cup of coffee have the same conversations or for a walk Good step forward Wish you the best

I want to thank you for recommending the film ''Pelisky,'' in your previous vlog. I never would have known of its existence. otherwise . I will also look at some of the other sites for Czeck films. I've tried to watch some but with no success getting English subtitles, One I especially want to see is ''Sluzka,'' with my favorite actress, Anna Geislerova. I miss living in Prague terribly and the Prague 5 neighborhood film location ''took me home.''' At the end of the film, when the Russians were on their way, I thought of a conversation I had with the head of the Foreign Police (I was getting a visa). I asked him what his greatest fear was, and he said that the phones would begin ringing to say Russian tanks were coming down the roads towards Prague.

Oh wow, that's a terrifying feeling for that poor foreign police officer! I'm so glad you liked Pelišky. I always think of it as a comedy, but then when I watch it I remember how very sad it is.

Back to the conversation in the Foreign Police office. Prior to my question about the fear of invasion, , the conversation had centered on the belief that the Moon landing had all been faked and that the collapse of the building, floor by floor, on 9/11 was caused by the American government to ensure invading Iraq. Several other policemen had joined us and all were adamant that the films shown on the news proved what they were claiming. By then, it was 5 pm and I think we all enjoyed our cultural exchange.

@@DreamPrague Hi Jen, and thanks for your reply. You know I'll tune in. You can't even imagine how important English is to me. Thanks to English, I am able to communicate with people almost all over the world. I decided to study English during the communist regime here in the former Czechoslovakia. These were completely unsuitable conditions for the study of all Western languages here. And that's why I really appreciate being able to watch your videos and hear the voice of a native speaker.
