Eyeglasses are one of those things that have been most influential over the centuries. They went from being the almost exclusive province of nobility and clergy, to extremely common in the past few hundred years.
@Libertaro-i2u, Thank you for the thoughtful comment! Cheers.
Oh that explains the long line of Phemona Death in my Family
@katiearbuckle9017, Appreciate the comment! Cheers.
A: "Hmmmm. . . . This might just be the beginning of the Apocalypse." B: "You think? Why?" A: "Well, we have famine, plague, and death ---" B: "But not war, eh?" -- pause -- A and B together: "Let's do it!!!"
I think that the university definitely contributed to the homicide rate. Drinking culture and youths that had the thirst for "amusement " have made this the murder capital in England
@amyj5987, Thank you for the thoughtful comment! Cheers.
Would you consider doing a video about the Green Children of Woolpit? I've seen the story presented several times, always as if it's all true. I think some of it must be, but I have specific questions about parts of it that I'd like to get your response to. Are you still making videos?
@deborahberger5816, That topic was considered a number of months ago and may be visited in the future. Yes, we are still making videos, though have been building up content lately for our other channel, VictoriantoModern while conducting research for MedievaltoModern. Thank you for your continued interest! Cheers.
I will look up your new channel tomorrow!

One of the best things about this channel is the way you present the feelings and philosophy of the Medievals along with historical facts. Just as today, how they were made them what they were.
@deborahberger5816, Thank you for the compliment! Cheers.

Whew! When I lived in Washington, D.C., in the 1980s, the nation's capital was also called "the murder capital" -- but it was a lightning bug next to lightning compared with Oxford. (I live outside the city now, and I can assure you that it's much safer, cleaner, and friendlier these days.)
@deborahberger5816, Appreciate the personal perspective! Cheers.
Martyrdom is painful, but meritorious - never hellish. Hell is another (endless) thing, entirely...

Living with livestock hanging around the house? "The noise and smell would be minor inconveniences." Oh well, everything is relative.

To everyone saying its a troll only noblemen were able to read and write in that time period i doubt highly that he is trolling
@anthonydoane4669, That is a great point! Cheers.
I've had a good education in music, and I've been singing choral music for many years, but you lost me when you got to the math! It's so fascinating, though, that I'll go back and watch this again and again until I get it right. Another subject I'd like to see is life in medieval Scotland, if only to tease my Glaswegian husband about it.
@deborahberger5816, Yes, it is a very intriguing subject, and the brief math portion of the episode does require more that one look. We appreciate the suggestion for a new episode! Cheers.
@medievaltoModern Voynich Manuscript There are reasons why it could not be decoded. Firstly, this book attempts to explain Karma, Rebirth, and the Brain Roots. Before delving into decoding the book, let's discuss the human brain. Our brain consists of three invisible roots, each providing a different level of intelligence. The first root allows us to connect with our body systems, enabling us to think, speak, and move. Presently, most human brains only reach the first root. The second root, reached by rare human species, not only enhances our thinking but also alters our vision to perceive apparitions, explaining why some individuals have psychic abilities or perform exorcisms. The third root remains undeveloped, yet our brains attempt to force it open during nighttime, resulting in dreams. This third root enables us to access the near future or past lives, enhancing our intelligence and decoding abilities. The book instructs us on unlocking these brain roots. The first root requires passing it on via gene (DNA). The second root can be opened through practicing meditation. The last root can be unlocked by consuming a rare exotic fruit resembling an apple. Its whereabouts remain unknown, with the last known instance of consumption attributed to Eve, the first female. By the time you read here you should have known Voynich Manuscript was trolling someone else and just like how I’m writing my own Manuscript.
Shocking! The last one with the man looking at the UFO is very disconcerting.
@WildberryAB, Appreciate that observation! Cheers.
There are so many things in the past that we can learn from for sure. All of our medicine is derived from plants, and thosands of cures are being destroyed and undiscovered in the Amazon.
@amyj5987, We appreciate the great points made in your commentary! Cheers.
This is a very interesting video! How can people still be in denial that we are not alone in this universe. Even the ancients revealed them and without a doubt, depicted them. Ignorance and brainwashing is the only explanation that can be given at this day and age of denying our alien ancestors and present day universe inhabitants.
@amyj5987, Thank you for these interesting observations and compliment on the video! Cheers.
Very interesting! Never heard these! Btw… I think the 1500s are a little late to be called “medieval”, but it’s all good. 😉 I got ya lol. The middle ages were from around the end of Rome til the renaissance, so roughly 500-1500 AD/CE. The sixteenth century was the time of the Renaissance, and of fully conquering, destroying, and colonizing the west and “new world” territories, thus bringing Europe out of the “dark” Middle Ages. Either way the paintings like those are incredibly telling. People who didn’t know any better back in the day usually expressed exactly what they saw. I believe it’s exactly what we think it is.
@erikm8372, Thank you for your thoughtful commentary! Yes, we went a little further than our usual 1500 AD limit on two of these pictures because it was so close and important to reveal. Cheers.
Awesome 😊

Holy leeches! It's sadly common to contract MRSA in a hospital or nursing home, and that's what happened to me after an accident in 2002. It wasn't diagnosed until I got home, by which time it was dangerously far gone. My husband had to hook me up to an IV twice a day for two weeks. Even now it's latent in my body, so if I ever have to go to the hospital again, they will have to take extraordinary precautions. But now there's a thousand-year-old remedy bringing hope to others. Yowzah, Mr. Bald!
@deborahberger5816, Thank you for sharing your experience. Yes, this medieval remedy shows promise. This is another reason we should continue to increase our awareness of Middle Ages knowledge.

Who was England's most feared knight?
There are many, but if you mean in the same period the mercenary Giles de Argentan had a formidable reputation, but in an active commander/ soldier sense, the King’s man Aymer de Valence was prominent in running much of the rebellion and insurrection in Scotland,

Yes, we cringe at the thought of consuming mashed-up worms, but most of us have been eating mashed-up bugs all our lives. Carmine (or "red dye #4") is a common food dye that is made from insects called cochineals. It's a vivid red dye, and it's used for adding color to things like breakfast cereals, candy, and fruit juice blends. Starbucks has recently agreed to start removing carmine from their products. I've been a vegetarian for twenty-five years, and I keep my eyes peeled for shenanigans like this!

Another informative and excellent video from your channel🎉 I learn so much from your information and your easy to understand narration is top notch. The homeless epidemic continues throughout the ages and it is so sad and disheartening. Everyone deserves shelter and a place that is safe and warm to call home. Mental illnesses has figured in the homeless crisis throughout many lands and times. Intresting to note that the " attitudes and scorn" so often afforded the homeless unfortunately continue.
@amyj5987, We thank you for these compliments and your great commentary! MedievaltoModern wants to give each viewer and subscriber to this channel our best efforts for every episode we create.
Belief in vampires, werewolves, and other creatures were comonplace then, not like today. This is a fascinating piece of evidence to these times of when these belief systems were held commonplace
@amyj5987, Thank you for the studious observation!
Wow it is amazing that there was so many people left after those bitter and harsh winters!!! I didnt think about the effects on climate change iur nicer weather here in Canada could have for us today, man is always meddling with Mother nature, and she will "correct".
@amyj5987, MedievaltoModern was also amazed that with the lack of modern conveniences large numbers of people survived this unbelievably bitter period of winter!
This made me think of how today in the UK so many people go into debt over Christmas and pay credit card and loan debt off months afterwards. Christmas time has carried on as such a big expectation from these Medieval times. It is very telling if you read between the lines of how Capitalism got its stronghold long ago in keeping a few people at the top, and the majority at the bottom, yet making you "grateful" for the " crumbs" left over, that yiu could get.
@amyj5987, Appreciate your interesting commentary and observations!
Well even though the food was not at all appealling to me, lol, it is a shame after all the excess the noble people ate, they just would give bread to the peasants!
Yes, the charity of the noble classes at Christmas time could have been a little more generous...
Wow this was a very informative video! I don't think I would have survived that long back in those times, so many awful things, that the common person had to endure. This is the real everyday people, not the glamorous portrayal of royalty and knights, and chilveric romance we are shown in the movies of this period.
@amyj5987, We appreciate your concise observations. Yes, MedievaltoModern strives to give our viewers a portrayal of medieval life as if they were watching in "real time"...Thank you for watching!
