    Man this takes me back to 20 years ago when I was a teenage guitarist/electronics nerd building all kinds of crazy audio experiments. Cassette tape delay, smoke detector piezo pickups, even built a tube amp with tremolo into one of those Fender Tweed Mini Twin micro-amps (which I still have).

    cool video, the recorded bit while unscrewing sounds painfully out of tune however

    Cool video, sounds great & useful, question, would this be similar to putting an ''ART tube pre-amp'' on your pedal board, and if that was possible where on your pedal board would you insert it. Cheers & thanks.

    10:39 prolly since you used a magnet with the north and south pole on the flat sides not the thin edge.

    Would a transformer work to step up the output of for example vintage pickups with few winds? Or just increase the output of regular pickups in general?

    Just a note to folks (I still have to watch this video) Dont know if you addressed this issue. My mod is still in the planning stages but some forums have expressed concern that the monotron mostly works with 5v and checking documentation tells me that both my NIFTY CASE and Microfreak go 0-10 volts by default. the freak has a 5v setting so thats my girl. If you go into say a SAW1 and a SQUARE2 pad with two CV voltages will that make it paraphonic with the two oscillators. so many questions. I need to make a breakout board. Trying not to fry it.

    ITS A DREAM COME TRUE! [I had to go get my other laptop so I could sign in and comment] I have been stumped as to how to hit the pitch in as most of the supposed tutorials on OG Monotrons and a DUO has no pad marked PITCH but those six SAW SQURE and pulse 1 and 2 and after another week of dead ends with reddit and youtube I did actually think to myself " I wish Clementine would do a Monotron duo video" and SURE ENOUGH the right search terms got me here and as soon as I saw ""solder cv pitch in to the saw2" I knew I was in the right place. Thanks for all the good work, I am working on a Tom Scholz MARS rig based on your tube preamp video and whether it works or not I'll be posting a full vid giving you full credit of course!

    Damn that was an impressive video. I stumbled upon your z-coil video when stuck in a rut of ‘guitar building and modding is expensive’ ++inspired This is a project that’s now jumped to the top of my play time bucket list.

    The only fault of ceramic pickups is being cost wise cheaper than alnico. Full stop. Sounds wise ceramic is no less valuable than the counterpart. But human beings think that more expensive is better in all fields: clothing, automotive, music... So, unless you like the alnico sound because imprinting, personal taste, ceramic is no less musical! I did the same mod replacing the ceramic bar with a Neodymium one, which is stronger from a gauss standpoint, not for a bad opinion on ceramic but just to tweak a cheaper pickup and try something different

  • @tobiusmanning7336
    @tobiusmanning733617 күн бұрын

    You changed the sound, but it's not the same as a pickup designed with an alnico magnet. The magnet, windings, wire size, dimensions all work together. Taking a pickup designed to use a ceramic magnet and installing an alnico magnet will not make it sound like a pickup that was designed for an alnico magnet. It may sound better, it may sound worse, don't know till you install and play it. Everyone has their own preferences when it comes to tone, would be a boring world otherwise. Just don't expect a miracle.

    I need to fabricate a different shaped backing plate for a P90. Now I'm dealing with option anxiety 🤔 There really is a marked difference in them. I was tempted to use aluminium but thinking steel or brass might be closer to standard, now I'm looking at copper and maybe a bass cut pot 🙄 it's going in a neck position of an old hollow body with a 59 PAF style in the bridge. Good video.

    Hi I have Jackson Warrior WRXT MIJ 2007 on basswood with Jackson 580 bridge with Duncan Design Detonator HB108 b/n. I want change bridge pick with DiMarzio Super Distorzion. I dont know which is best connect and wired. I want bright chrisp harsh sparkly sound not bassy and muddy. Well I really dont know what is best opnion How I know paralel is quiet and series is more bassy so booth is not what I need. I dont know how is tone with one HB in bridge is it better than HB b+n and how must connect him. Realy dont know how guitarist like George Lynch, Waren D Martini or EVH have wired pick ups.I cant find in web. What is your experience. Which way would be best for me. What do you think. Thank you very much kind regards

    Next Humbucker Junior you get, just rotate the humbucker so the screw poles face the neck and then raise the screw pole 3/16ths inch. That gives a chunky beefy P90 tone .. and is reversible if you ever want to go back.

    Loved this video, especially the bit about ice cream. It's frustrating to go on guitar forums and see 90% of people chasing a sound from 50-60 years ago. Not that there's anything wrong with those sounds--like you said, vanilla is good--but there's much more out there than Hendrix and Led Zeppelin. We need to reference the past without being stuck in it.

    Original P90's were 10k wraps around a single coil, original PAF's split the difference and put 5k wraps around each coil, so unless this HB was like 16k DCR wouldn't one coil be half the required wraps for an "authentic" P90 spec? I like the "air coil" idea suggested by others and not meaning to pick holes in your project, you may not have been going for authentic and by all accounts a single coil flanked by 2 magnets is mostly P90-esque but it's not the full equation 😅

    The spider thanks you for fixing its hidey hole. Also scotched brite a crank shaft on an Oldsmobile station wagon. Filled crank case with Prolong and full synthetic Mobile One. Drove it 75k more miles. Sounded like hammers in a gold mine. Still ran until the trans went out. Funny as hell commentary!😂😂😂 I use Prolong on all my electric motors. Stuff works!

    I loved the tone, but then again I love butt pimples, so I am not a good judge. JK, I dug it. I used to make impromptu cone repairs with paper soaked in white glue and water mix to thin it out. Cut to fit the tear and glue it up. Works a treat an lasts a good bit too
