Every tradition deserves a well treatment such as this. A great selection of clips from someone clearly well aware of the beauty of the Art form.

Will there be a more in-depth look at Kataoka's _shūmei_ ceremony? If so, I'm looking forward to it!
Was that Tamasaburo Bando?
Yes, it is a combination of footage from Tamasaburō V and Kanzaburō XVIII.
@@KabukiInDepth I love Tamasaburō, his movements are always so graceful. Best onnagata I've ever seen!! I think I've seen Kanzaburo too, but I have quite a hard time remembering kabuki actors
So exciting to see Onoe Matsuya II continue to do so well. I really enjoyed the Netflix Akadousuzunosuke!
PURE MAGIC !!!!!!
Is that sukeroku with yhe water bucket?
Good eye! It is Sukeroku in a different play, Kurotegumi Sukeroku, written by Kawatake Mokuami for the great actor Ichikawa Kodanji IV in 1858.
Thank you always for bringing this beauty and scholarship to us..🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Saw the shumei today in Tokyo. It was pretty good all around.
Как я вообще сюда попал
Great explanation thanks.
It's a golden opportunity for Ukon II, especially given the fact that there are rumors that he would be a strong candidate to inherit the Onoe Baikō name in the near future. Speaking of Otowaya, I have a doubt here: we know that the Otowaya house will have its own shūmei in 2025, in which Onoe Kikunosuke V will take on the name Onoe Kikugorō VIII. What are the chances of Onoe Kikunosuke V playing the same roles that his father, Onoe Kikugorō VII played during his own shūmei in 1973? What are the chances of Kikunosuke V playing Sukeroku in his shūmei in 2025?
The main performances have also been announced: Ninin Dōjō-ji and Benten Kozō (May), Kurumabiki, Terakoya and Renjishi (June), so quite different from the shūmei of the seventh generation. I agree that it would have been quite spectacular to see an Otowaya Sukeroku after so long. As for the Baikō name, I think I remember Kikugorō VII saying that he wants to give it to his other grandson, Onoe Maholo.
@@KabukiInDepth Another important question: speaking of the Yorozuya house, do you think that Baishi V will be an onnagata like his father, Tokizo VI and his grandfather, Manju I or do you think he will follow a different path from them, being a Kaneru Yakusha or Tachiyaku?
That's up to him to decide, in the next 10 to 15 years!
Hey all, can anyone send link to the dance itself? Thanks
what is the name of the background music?
Yooooooooooo
Minamoto Yoshitsuni is the goat samurai
I love it but it bugs me that the second sound doesn't match with the second foot. If that makes sense to anyone

สุดยอด น่าทึ่งและสวยงามในเวลาเดียวกัน ❤
This is excellent news and it will be very interesting to see how Tokizo V will fare as Nakamura Manju I, Baishi IV as Tokizo VI and Manju I's grandson as Baishi VI. Here, I'm sorry for the delay in commenting, but it's because I was reading some news that some people sent me and I would like you to clarify something for me: is it true that Onoe Kikunosuke V will finally become Onoe Kikugorō VIII at the beginning of 2025?
Completely true! Very interesting situation, with two actors holding the Kikugorō name at the same time. It seems the ceremony will take place in May and June 2025 at the Kabuki-za.
I came here to approve. I wanted to like the video, but before me, there were 222 likes and 2 dislikes. When I speak, there will be 21 comments. The next comment will be 22.
To me, what makes a great Kabuki actor...is not only his great skill at bringing geat heroic and villainous roles to life...but the beauty, skill and grace they bring to the female roles as well.
Yes! This is truly wonderful, a continuation of this beloved, rich and full tradition…thank you so very, very much. I only wish more folks would follow you…🙏🏻
