    The whine the sadev sequential gearbox makes is super offputing. You want to gear the low rumbling and popping of the engine and exhaust. Instead you hear this over riding high pitched whine. Real let down.

    As a long term Caterham owner, I am on my second. My first was a Cosworth BDR 25 years ago. At the time it was about as fast as you could get. Racing clutch, dry sumped, light flywheel and two Webber 45's. I loved it but it needed a bit of care and attention. Driving in traffic with a racing clutch is a pain, stop go becomes a trial. I had that car for about eight years and sold it for just shy of my purchase price. I moved on to a K series with around 160 bhp, which I still have. I would easily get 80% of my money back if I sold it tomorrow. They have both been sunny Sunday?occational track day fun cars and I have always had another car for transport. My thoughts? Buy an older used 7, keep it in top condition, save a fortune and let the Koreans or Japanese look after your daily transport.

    This is supposed to be an old to new comparison? I've been driving a 67 Plus 4 for more than 50 years. The new Morgans (post 2010) are not real Morgans. They are replicars. They look a little bit like real Morgan but they are entirely different cars underneath, and they aren't even produced by the real Morgan Motor Company. That is the very definition of a replicar. The Morgan Motor Company became dormant in 2010. Their assets were purchased by a new company, Morgan Technologies. In 2018, Morgan Technologies bought the rights from the dormant Morgan Motor Company, in order to use the name "Morgan Motor Company." In 2019, that company was bought by an Italian investment firm. Meanwhile, these Morgan replicars don't have the sliding pillar suspension (which all Morgans had since 1909). They don't corner as flat. They don't ride as hard and the engines aren't as torquey. They don't have a walnut dash or hand sewn leather bench seats. The fenders are not pounded out by hand - they are vacuum formed. They feature an extremely ugly flop back top instead of the disassembling top which stores completely out of sight. And, on top of all this, Morgans were never meant to be expensive cars. In 1967, a Morgan Plus 4 cost about the same as an MGB (around 800 pounds) If you think one of these new "Morgans" is fun to drive, you ought to try a real Morgan.

  • @XoVoX
    @XoVoX3 ай бұрын

    Charles Morgan fundamentally killed the Morgan name; Morgan Technologies was a way around the debt he incurred. Its something that they are quietly trying to pretend didn't happen. Much like many families, the great descendants of HFS Morgan clearly saw the potential of green and sold off majority share. A prospect that was probably a delight considering how bad things had gotten under Charles. At one time they were affordable cars for the common man and are now a "luxury" brand. Family greed killed a brand. The company is a shell of what it once was. Its a similar comparison to the classic mini and the BMW mini. Things of a bygone era.

    Well said! As the owner and driver of a traditional Plus 4, and who has driven a 'new' Plus Four, I agree. The new one is like most other modern cars - fast but rather dull to drive. And after the debacle in 2022 of the failed brake servo on new Morgans which required every car to be recalled, I wonder about the design and build. And ask any breakdown lorry driver about the cars which they pick up the most - after Land Rovers it's usually BMW, and the new cars all have BMW engines and gearboxes. And yes, prices are silly.

    Minilites, chrome headlamps, tan leather seats and tunnel. The classic look is always good. Bodywork all one colour, I'd go for yellow. You need a lowered floor if you are above average height. If you are building your own pack the windscreen wider tube with grease to prevent annoying rattles (seriously, it's really annoying).

    As far as I know, the EVO VI TME RS was the fastest car available in terms of handling & acceleration on launch. There was very few cars that could match it. The specs were 206kw & 373nm weighing 1250kg. But these were understated. Think it was more like 250kw & 450nm. Motoring journalist's generally stated that it was faster than it's European competition on launch, but only when it was flat out. They said that the European options had better luxury equipment. I've seen a few stock examples cracking into the 11sec barrier down the 1/4 mile or close to it, incredible for a car in this price range back then.

    'It's no where as scary'. - as New model. Someone once said the 4/4 is like owning a 40's hot rod. I test drove one pre MX5 gearbox. A drivers car... no need for a heater you sweat so much. But at the end of the day it is the most cool car on UK's road. There will never be an EV. .... will there....

  • @garymurraya

    I suggest when you get serious, you speak to a dealer about your spec and your needs. If you are not tracking this car many times a year, your spec is something that is over priced and will lose a lot of money when you sell it. Are you going to track it a lot, or will you do a few EU trips? Those larger wheels make no sense for road driving any distances, neither do the seats. Carbon fibre?? why, expensive to replace and looks a bit tacky in my opinion. A black & badge at the front, that no one can see, but bright white and red, dont see much logic there either, but each to their own of course. 61k is horrendous money for a 420. Why not simply pay 40 approx for a 1 2 3 year old. Who cares too too too much about the colour, there are no bad colours, its not a ferrari, that looks sexy, and no girl will realistically have much interest in it, so save the money and get something already made. In addition its about 12 months waiting list, although they are going to a new factory so maybe that will come down. I just got mine completes, 49k new (before price rises) and it has taken 18 months!!! good luck... 620 is a step jump skip way too far, not a good idea IMO and its a turbo, not the same as NA at all...

    Volume, or rather the lack of it, is part of the issue. Remember that in order for the vehicle to be registered as new there can be no use of "re-manufactured" components. Try sourcing, say a new Ford Duratec engine (remembering that most are sold without any ancillaries, ecu, etc - not even a front pulley or flywheel), then a new MX-5 gearbox, propshaft, final drive, half-shafts front & rear hubs, uprights discs, calipers, shockers & springs etc, etc. And then there are the instruments, loom, etc. You can also look at the price of, for example, Morgans and realise that, by comparison the Caterham is cheap.
