I’ve loved Metal Gear Solid since its first iteration on PS1……………..and today I completed MGS3 for the I don’t know “how many-eth” time. I’ve always been impressed with the game mechanics and story of Metal Gear Solid’s legacy. That being said I still do not like Peace Walker, which is probably because it’s a port from the PSP. The story was okay, but this version of gameplay sucked. I wasn’t fond of recruiting, sorting out the recruits, the boss fights, the player movements, and the weapons mechanics. I was admittedly head over heels for Metal Gear Solid 4. I enjoyed every aspect thoroughly, and dare to call it a masterpiece!! After that, the franchise seems to go downhill from here for me. Ground Zeroes was well below what I’ve come to expect from the Metal Gear Solid series, and the same goes for The Phantom Pain. The best aspect of MGSV was the online multiplayer experience. Furthermore, I feel they did us longtime MGS veterans a lot of justice with the MGS Master Collection………and now I’m thirsty af for the MGS3 “Delta” remake, reissue, or whatever. Even though I’ve played it over and over it seems to be a fresh reboot, if for nothing else but the graphics. I don’t know why they stopped directing the franchise toward the future after MGS2 versus setting everything to a retrospective vibe. Going back in time with the series definitely an acquired taste for some of us.

I feel like the only reason it's hated is because people played it single player when the entire selling point was that you were supposed to play it with 4 friends using the goofy co-op mechanics

how dare you calling a infinite running metal gear game a "masterpiece" ? all you do is talk good about the weapons on the beginning, metal gear is not about guns, it`s about story and gameplay details, MGS3 & MGS4 still MILES more competent than phantom crap

@@RicardoDuarte2510 Both are amazing games for different reasons. What made TPP so incredible was how well it played as a zero trace stealth game and as a third person action game. He also talks about way more than just the guns. He goes on about how enjoyable and open ended the mission were and how you can approach them numerous different ways whereas previous MGS games were more linear and focused on reaching goal points. Not to mention everything you're saying is subjective so it doesn't make sense so be so pointlessly hostile in your replies. TBF some MGS fans need to learn that you're free to like some entries more than others without getting so worked up about it.

They definitely took facial features and expressions to the next level in RE3make but the lack of how epic it was to dismember zombies (which was way better in RE2) and the lackluster time to beat the game made it just a good game to play whenever you don't feel like sinking time into something long that takes a weekend to beat. 7 out of 10. However...the game is still fun and I beat it like 5 times in a row because it was still fun.

Yeah no, the gameplay while fluid and fun isn't great, there are zones where the character just glitch, invicible walls that stops that momentum sometimes just ruin the experience for a game that let's you being "free" having those issues are awful, same happens with the buddies, specially quiet, phantom pain has more base outpost? There are like 2 interesting and all the others are boring, and inside the interesting outpost are barely incentives to explore or to know who is there, side ops and in general gets repetitive very fast, specially if you play non lethal, awesome music? I barely listen them, yeah, it's pretty good 80s rock music, but for a game set in afganistan, Africa, or having a variety of nationalities we barely hear anything from their countries, and the only great original track was phantom pain, also making chopers non capturable makes it bad compared with peace walker, saying that the game rewards you with soldiers is a stretch, it gives you a S rank at first and if you don't have heroism barely will get a AA+, great game but those details ruined for me

TBH a lot of what you described, he covers in his review for why it didn't bug him or why he really liked the level design of the outposts, since they accommodate multiple sneaking paths and any kind of fight you may get into. He also criticized the game for having no reason to explore but added that why he loved it was because of the missions themselves and how replayable he found them thanks to how objectives could be solved and how many ways you had in and out when you play stealth.

I preffered the Stamina meter. It added an more important sense of survival to the game. And the psyche meter even before the syringe thing was never a problem to me. Hell i rarely even after my 12th playthrough did i even use the syringe in MGS4 i instead just used the cardboard box and stayed in the shadows to lower his stress, and there are songs in both mgs3 and 4 that increase stamina and psyche. You'd have to play like an absolute moron to be so bothered by those mechanics. But you are right about the enemies being less of a threat as the series progress. Even in MGS5 i've found that most enemies while they are more capable of hittin you from afar, they just aren't that smart anymore, they are too slow to clear an area, and don't even react to an empty gun having its trigger pulled when you hold them up. Also the CQC fight with The Boss is more about timing than anything else. It's not that hard once you get a hang of it.

I always found solid snake in mgs1 to actually be more talkative than most other protagonists in the series. He does have some back and forth with the villains and even jokes a bit like with raven. Even in the briefing files in the twin snakes (which fans hate) show snake seem a little more organic as he and the colonel get into a small fight, which I don't remember seeing in the original game's briefing

I find it funny how CodeTalker's mansion has an infinitely easier way to infiltrate via the literal front door, but the devs pulled a sneaky by making most players start in the forest area where they can get ambushed by snipers. If it's your first time, you won't even realize that CodeTalker is literally a corner away from the front door. You may even try to exit through the same way you came in. It's only when I was trying that "catch the legendary Ibis" side mission that I realized I was played like a damn fiddle.

Holy crap the Codetalker escape music! I've done that mision at least 20 times by now--not once have I ever heard this track! That's ludicrous, I've always exited through the front door you mentioned, not just because it's the seemingly obvious most direct exit when you get to the top of the stairs with Codetalker, it's also the ONLY entrance I've ever found and/or used without very meticulously checking the entire perimeter for another entrance. You're guided to that main entrance by so many things, and when your in a rush in the natural tension of stealth, I automatically go to the easiest entrance I know best that's the most accessible. But overall this is still my favorite stealth action game to play of all time. Storywise? MGS3. But to play? MGSV every, single, time.

1:43 That’s the issue with MGS games; MGS1 gave you one type of each weapon and that’s all you needed; MGS2 gave you tranq versions of the pistol and PSG1; MGS3 onwards are gratuitous. To paraphrase Yahtzee, these games gave you a 100 million tools to do things that aren’t that complicated.

Ground Zeroes needed to be more mini sandboxes like Camp Omega, with the controls of Phantom Pain, and equipment & weapon development. Basically Peace Walker but bigger.

(Spoiler Alert: Read if you don't care bout spoilers or already know the plot) Some of you might not actually know this, but Venom's scenario is nothing like Liquid oceleot where Ocelot faked being possesed. Venom doesn't know who he actually was; he didn't know he was that medic in Ground Zeroes. Venom was implanted with all of Bigg Boss's memories, psychology and personality. Venom was 100% psychologically convinced he is the real Bigg Boss, even in the earlier MGS games Venom was still convinced until Solid killed him. So basically Venom Died believing he was someone else. Your Welcome

eh, I could see keffer snake being ok with it. For him, it seems like big boss was an ideal. Like a religious martyr. You might die horribly in absolute obscurity, but its fine if its in the name of a faith. Your character, the fanatic, could be seen that way. A truelly successful brainwashing is when the subject is fine with the knowledge of their own brainwashed. just like a deeply held belief is self evident. Of course thats tragic in its own way.

another conceptual oddity is that super powers don’t NEED nuclear supremacy to be super powers. The great powers were still great powers before nukes. Victorian era england still had more soft and hard power than an afghan tribe of the time. More people having nukes just means MAD would be even more widespread if it does happen. Little more conceptual. But without lingua francas or major cultures, things tend to balkanize like the actual balkans and more consistent lower level conflicts take place that affect more people more often. Per capita the amount of conflict decreases as cultural hegemony increases. Though I think thats abstract enough of a point that I dont mind as much as the nukes. completely agree with you about the absolute blue balls that is the shafting of skull face for the bait and switch. super cathartic takes on the story too. with all its potential and how it lacks that visualization that can hit it home at the end. think you really hit the nail on the head. really cool concepts, but the execution and showing just isnt there often.
