It's all downhill after wizard and glass. The last two books in the series are just awful.

Crimson king reveal was a joke as was the ending. Roland should’ve woken up in Gilead “and it was all just a dream” lmao.

I’m sorry but maybe it’s just me but this book was average at best. Easily the weakest of the Langdon novels, the plot was entirely transparent to the point of me thinking that there was some crazy “3D chess type of triple cross” coming…but it never came.

Well, there is a side meta thing to the “hints.” The original version of the first book has none of the foreshadowing, King had no idea where the story was going originally. As he fleshed it out over two decades, he did, and revised the first three books, the first book having the most changes (the piano player is changed to be the one from WAG, a random past lover is now Susanna, and most telling, the tarot card reading snd tbe opening get the foreshadowing of the ending added). If you never read the revised and only the original, it’s certainly less coherent, and I def feel for those that were in that situation. I read the original version but then the revised in reread before i got to the last three books thankfully. And I liked the ending first time, but much more appreciated it on reread. .

I stopped reading the series after Wizard in Glass (just after it came out). I realized then that King had two choices when it came to Roland actually arriving at the tower at the end of the series: 1) He could have Roland actually meet "God" or a god of some kind and get super interesting with the dialogue, the true history of his universe and what really happens at the end of Roland's journey (we didn't get that). 2) A cop-out where he puts himself into the story or something more contrived than that (He often wrote short stories about stories coming to life or a writer entering their own stories in some way, psychologically or literally). As I was already familiar with his previous works of the time, I was already able to guess the convoluted ending he would inevitably choose to write and completely lost interest in finishing the series. The time warp makes sense, but it was hardly a surprise either. He clearly set something like that up with his first encounter with the boy Jake in the desert in the first book and its aftermath. I truly believe though that King missed a huge opportunity here though. He should have had the journey start over at the point when he woke up next to the burned out camp fire after having caught up with the man in black and the vision/dream he had a that point following their conversation about the universe. Just my opinion.

Just finished insomnia. I did not like it. Patrick Danville is barely in it. There are long diatribes about abortion of all things. Its a very political novel. It felt unnecessarily drawn out too. I was bored through long sections. I love Stephen King and the dark tower saga is my absolute favorite. I really wanted to like it but it just had too many issues for me.

I read that book twice when I was 16 and it forever changed my life. The scene at the beginning where Rose ponders wether to change the bedding or not, about the possible consequences while violently rocking on that chair and then suddenly thinking "but what if he doean't kill me? What if he hits me in a way that won't kill me but I allso wont be able to escape anymore...". This kept nagging at me evry time my father hit me or abused me and it gave me the courage to run away from that life. Then when I got my own kids the last part of the book reminded me to choose the hard path of not falling into rage and doing irreversable damage to my family as I was taught from my father. It's been 25 yrs since I read that book, and I can guarantee you I am not the only woman that completly changed the course of her life thanks to it. Maybe you didn't like the book bc you just can't relate to the amount of domestic violence and the psyhological horrors it spawns out in reality.

PALAVER WITH THE GUNSLINGER *What is the purpose of life?* Gnosis. The truth of the universe. *What is the purpose of generation?* Contention in Gnosis. Souls are wrought in Celestial matter and all those less than the truth of the Earth are pulled into its gravity. Here they stay until they conquer its truth, giving birth to contention in their argument in a vast hierarchy of rebirth, birth, and death. *What is the nature of conflict?* Conflict is struggle and disagreement intertwined with the spirit of the world. When one is closer to the truth they live free of conflict in a natural state. *What is the true nature of mathematics?* Mathematics is the breaking-down of nature into smaller digestible portions. It is the distribution of trade and barter to lesser truths, and the proclivity of engineering to those who provide basic survival necessities which happens at lesser states of Gnosis. It is the trueing of the mind into perspective which allows for the clarity of greater truths. *What is the nature of the spirit?* The spirit is the vast interconnectedness that allows for the clarity of telepathic argument. It is the guide of the soul into generation and after-death contention. It is the instilment of inspiration in the soul which resides in the mind and not in the body. War with the spirit is certainly possible and sometimes it instills confusion and wills to destroy an individual. *What is the nature of good and evil?* Good is the beginning and the end. Evil is the grasp and the climb that allows for the return to good which comes after Gnosis. *Does Gnosis impart a certain physicality?* The spirit of the soul draws from the availability of the contenting argument during birth and over vast periods of time shapes the flesh into its form. Those with a greater potential for the truth are closer to the original form of the vast genetics. *What is Creation? How was the universe created?* Creation is the casting out of lesser Gnosis. Celestial beings are separate from matter which is formed by casting out stars which form into planets or black holes in a complex reformation of evil that strives to return into its original form after completion of the truth. *What is dancing, really? Why is it related to death?* Dancing is pure evil because it imparts the rejection of Gnosis which is knowledge. Dancing is the everlasting struggle of those in Hell. When one has lost the struggle eternally they dance forever in an everlasting death. It is the ultimate win and the ultimate loss. A pure expression during the stasis between the life of the body. *Explaining the Weather and Fire* Wind is due to the revolution of the Earth and rain is due to the evaporation of water which rises and then cools. The amount of water never changes and the sun provokes evaporation. This system ensures the distribution of water to plant and animal life. Plants respond to the stimulus of the sun and other stimulus. Lines are drawn in the level of the consciousness of animals in order for consumption. This is the true wonder of life and creation. It is the perfection of alignment and shows the mathematical possibility of the universe under the possibility of a higher power. Fire is due to the extremities of temperature or makeup in forms of matter. It is the binding of two differences. There are the two differences and the gateway that binds the two which is fire. Therefore wood with frictions creates fire because of the atmosphere which becomes bound by the joining of two extremities in a short or lengthy difference. The more extreme the difference the bigger the result. Fire is a doorway, yes. One creates a portal by bridging two gaps. Cigarettes are portals because they bridge the gap in the mind's connectivity. -Francis A.

I started reading all these books as a kid, around when I was 11 years old in 1996. My mother had all of them, and the size and look of the books fascinated me back then. (they were the biggest ones on the bookshelves with golden letters) Damn I was so addicted to it. I have all of them ready for when my daughter reaches that age. They are such brilliant books, at the time it was the biggest adventure I had been on story wise, and nowadays there a still few books who have managed to leave such an impression as those did back then. When my daughter starts reading them I will start a re-read. With the wisdom of the years I will probably read much more into it then I did back then.

To all those movie executives or Directors out there, Stop changing things when you try to make a movie based on a novel. Stop changing the characters' race, ethnicity, or gender. And most important of all, if you feel the need to make lots of changes just create a new property. If you don't heed these principles, prepare to continue losing money.
