Have ridden that rode since 1969 First bike being a Suzuki 80c.c. sport "now we are talking fast" "NOT" Not sure what happened there and not wishing to sound like a real dick why was that back wheel locked up ??? Like all the other comments riding in a group is not healthy unless you are all at the same which is never the case is it ? Also knowing the road helps.. Been out with others that know the road and nearly killed me self because I did not !! Anyway hope the fella got the message ???

Nothing too radical but right from the off, all the ingredients for disaster were right there; poor positioning, TFF, too close, poor observation and that overtake on the white car was both too late and too close, not to mention totally illegal. The guy in the hi-vis rode quite well but the guy in black behind him rode like he wanted to die! To quote @RoadcraftNottingham "never put your front wheel anywhere your brain hasn't already been"!! Also, as @TeapotOne points out, councils will only spend money on road markings if a need has already been demonstrated - usually by someone making an unplanned exit from the road! Good that no-one was hurt and nothing was damaged (check his arse, never mind his heart!) but hopefully something was learned here and if not, look up everything I've mentioned above AND practise counter-steering. Might just save your life one day!! Also look up Limit Points...

Lucky lad but did he even use his front brake ? Brave lads group riding, I gave that shit up years ago as there are always a couple of dickheads who nail it off in to the distance then expect everyone else to catch up, when you stop to re-group it's the inevitable "did you get lost" blah blah bollocks

Unlike, say, Devon where students pay over nine than a year and hospital parking charges are crippling, it’s road system is not only riddled with pot holes but in many places reduced to no better than dirt tracks.

What is the initial “fucking hell that was close” for? Followed by an illegal overtake (solid white line) by the rider in front, who was later lucky to not have a serious RTC and followed by you possibly trying to not do an illegal overtake by staying within the solid white line whilst no more than a foot or two from the white car @ 4.33. Far too much pressure on riders (self inflicted?) to ride outside their skill level when riding in a group and not ride their own ride and this video highlights that brilliantly! 😏

  • @blackk1UK

The issue here is not group riding. There are plenty of solo riders who overcook corners, it's just that there is no one there to film it. The issue here is not looking where you want to go. The bike could easily have made that turn at the approach speed but the rider didn't look where they wanted to go, instead looking at where they didn't want to go. Get some training, understand how bikes and riders get around corners and practice.

Riding in groups has to follow some simple rules that often are not followed. Most important: The worst/slowest/least experienced driver absolutely mandatorily has to lead the group. Everybody has to go as slow as that slowest one, otherwise it becomes a death trap for the slow Joe. Overtaking as a group is complicated, even more so when cars and lorries should not "help" like the white car thankfully did exemplary. We created our own space for the overtaking group by slowing down and keeping a distance as space for more overtaking bikers in front of the vehicle unwilling to help with overtaking - sometimes they get really mad though, which can become extremely dangerous for a group - You can't get away simply by speed as a group in thick traffic, so to securely control the maddening four-wheeler is key. You can't go fast as a group, so don't try it. You have to answer for every single one of the group - don't try to not do that in case something ugly happens, like lost mirrors, dented doors or things like that. I don't do riding in groups of more than three any more by principle. It is not worth it. Call out a next rendez-vouz or meeting point two or three hours ahead and let everybody go there on their own - way more relaxed riding. Oh, and don't have any intercom for bike-group chit-chat, of course! - that's about as deadly as swiping Your phone in traffic as a four-wheeler.

Group riding is at once one of the most pleasurable yet most dangerous motorcycle activities you can participate in. It's fun because you are out doing what you love with like-minded people, presumably heading for a common destination where you will likely regale each other with the "victories" of the day, (beginning with simply staying alive in the face of 4-wheeler adversity) ... and any and all threats the road and possibly even the weather were able to throw at you. All this will be recounted, hopefully, with everyone safe and sound, either over a fine lunch, or maybe at the end of riding, with a couple of pints of beer. The dangerous part(s) of group riding come(s) when the "dynamics" of being in a group on the road brings all sorts of negative influences into the mix. The need to "keep up", (whether you or your bike are capable), the tendency to stay close (and ignore "normal /safe" following distances), the inclination to watch what the others in the group are doing, ahead and behind, (when you should be keeping a closer eye on your own circumstances), the natural inclination to "compete" (who wants to arrive last?!), and the overt exhilaration of just being "out there" with the gang. It's ALL quite capable of being a recipe for disaster, and frequently is. Be EXTRA, EXTRA CAREFUL when riding in GROUPS!

I'm reading the comments and have to reply. Too many of you seem to think that incidents like this are unavoidable. "You freeze and all ability to maneuver is lost !" Etc. Not true. In almost all cases, the rider still has the ability to do many things, some good and some bad. But if they aren't practicing High Visual Horizon and actively training their brain in panic situations, this is the result. The corner wasn't tight, good pavement and a fairly clear sightline. I describe these kinds of events as "The rider crashed and took his bike with him" It takes time and effort to learn new behaviors for riding. Too few people seem to want to do the work.
