My name is Takuya Funaki. I am a beadworker, silversmith and a lover of Native American traditional music. I am the owner of an online shop "earthlodge ", specialized for silver and turquoise jewelry.
With the earthlodge KZread channel, I show all the processes of my recent beading project, especially making moccasins.
I learned a Native American beading method when I was a tribal college student from Japan on the Flathead Indian Reservation, MT in 1987 and ever since then I've been beading moccasins especially.
I enjoy designing moccasins not only with a Native American tribes' traditional designs but also borrowing ideas from other world cultural elements as well.
I've started to play Native American flute at the same time as starting bead.
My influencer is Kevin Locke, a traditional Lakota flute player, a hoop dancer and a great Kola/friend.
I love playing songs from old traditional and modern Powwow songs which you can hear at Powwow in the US and Canada.

Theyre a masterpeice !
thank you for your compliment 😊
John, because of your beautiful designs, I am beginning this project. It is so much more of a thought process than I supposed it would be. I'm getting frustrated with the beading...I'm on my third set of tongues. LOL My daughter keeps telling me it's going to take longer than I think. Then I heard you in one video saying it took several weeks for you to visualize and finish a pair and I felt somewhat more capable. There might be a finish line. Hopefully while i can still wear them, in Wisconsin. I love your moccasins!!!
Take your time and enjoy it's process 😉👍🏻
What is that your using to adhere the fabric
Pellon® 805 Wonder-Under® is the original paper-backed fusible web. It fuses easily in mere seconds and is 100% machine stitchable. The fabric will maintain a soft hand after fusing. Wonder-Under® is great for apparel, home décor, and craft projects. It bonds fabric to fabric or any porous surface like wood and cardboard.
Three pieces of hide and some beads and you produce something this beautiful. Such a talent.
Beautiful mocs

Interesting...🧐 Moccasins 4 the dead.
Full-beaded moccasins were mistakenly thought of as the moccasins of the dead, but this is not the case; in the past, when people died, they were buried in their best clothes. Full-beaded moccasins were one of the best costumes and were not made for the dead. As proof of this, the Museum of the American Indians research has shown that when examining many old full-beaded moccasins, there is evidence that they were actually worn. The American Indian Art Magazine had a great article about this.🙂
I like beading too.
Happy Beading 😊
I was wondering how to put cones on the moccasins, it seems pretty simple and yes, I would use brass cones because the silver ones seem to tarnish easily. What tribe uses this design, maybe Arapaho??😊❤
Back in those days, they pinched a cone-tip, but I use a glue 😁. The design ideas come from the Comanche, Kiowa, and Southern Cheyenne.
Thank you so much for the tips and design information. I'm Southern Cheyenne and enjoy beading moccasins when I have all materials and time.

Oki! Do you have a specific layout for the top when measuring the feet?
I highly recommend checking "Native American Moccasins / A Craft Manual by George M. White" It explains everything.
Where can I find the moccasin pattern? Thank you 🙏🏽

Excellent as Always! What were the Red beads you were using? I think that's the shade I've been looking for!
Yes, they are a vintage Venetian White Heart Red, which is almost impossible to find nowadays.
wow I was not expecting that. Those beads have such a deep color. My vintage white hearts have purple tone. Thanks so much. @@earthlodge_beadwork
What are the approximate dimensions of the bag? Are projects #1 and #2 basically the same size? Thank you for your videos and your music!
Yes, they are the same size, 6 x 8
