    it looked like RC got the highest fidelity but I've heard it does a kind of cheat where it assumes dark lines are recesses so you get more detail faster but its less accurate? it did look best here though. also this vid is 2 years old, does anyone know if there has been any significant progress amongst these tools?

    Why process the RAW files? I use Zephyr, and I throw the RAW files directly into it. It always comes out nice, even if the RAW files look very dark (because I generally expose for highlights). Normally, the more data the better.

    Good comparison. At work we use a 3D scanning camera with depth sensors and a rotating platform. With this setup we can make higher resolution scans than these programs in a fraction of the time (5 minutes is enough for a high quality scan). The downside is that it requires a lot of setup and the scanning space is limited to small objects, no larger than a 150x150x150mm box. You can go larger, but because of the depth of field of the camera you will lose detail. Everything has drawbacks and it's still a search for which scanning techniques work the best. We are now looking for a handheld scanner since the iPad with surface scanner is crap. It's a fun gimmick, but those iPads just don't deliver good files.

    what I have noticed is, depth maps usually gives me meshes with less high frequency noise while dense cloud especially on high or ultra high is very noise even after cleaning the dense cloud via confidence filter. So dense map result is a lot cleaner. I just wish I had more control over it (in the dense cloud you can filter out any point you want).

    Say I just got a Nikon D800 and when I import the RAW images the resolution is read as some tiny resolution like 100x50 or something ridiculous like that and the actual resolution is 7360x4912. Any idea what would cause this? I'm thinking importing it into photoshop and exporting it as TIFF may fix it? I already removed the photos, but I'll try that later.

  • @CarlosFaustino

    @@CarlosFaustino Thanks for the response, I'll have to drag the photo's back off. I realized that I was using an F-Stop to small so none of the images will be usable anyway due to blurring around parts. Hello, I have a rather urgent question. I performed a "low" quality treatment (cloud, alignment...etc). If I want to switch to "high" quality, is there a way to reuse the work done in low quality to reduce the working time or do I have to redo everything from the beginning in high quality? Thanks.

  • @CarlosFaustino

    Hi, i watched a few videos of you also the one where you compare to meshroom which did not work at all, and i wanted to point you to getting rid of the turntable for making the Imagesets. Those Softwares also rely on things in the background to reference to which they simply cannot do on a turntable, give it a try you will get better results.

  • @CarlosFaustino
    @CarlosFaustino2 жыл бұрын

    Well, since most of my turntable objects are masked out, then the software only relies on the object itself. And that has some disadvantages of course but also gets you amazing results... Check my cgtrader profile, 80+ objects done with turntable 😉
