Doug B's Digital Den

Doug B's Digital Den

Hi guys! This channel is going to be presenting tips and tricks for your Fender Tone Master Pro, Fractal FM9, Helix Floor, Tonex and more - one topic at a time. There is so much territory to cover with these wonderful beasts - and it can get overwhelming. This series is going to be a "how to" guide, and I'll do my best make it user-friendly. Feel free to suggest new topics, I'd love the feedback!

    Hey Doug, great content as always, love your videos! I had a suggestions for a future video: A video about the noise gates in the TMP. It seems every amp model has a built-in noise gate that can be set to either Off, Low, Medium, High, or Max. But then there are also a few pedals as well, Metal Gate, Noise Gate, and Simple Gate. Maybe you could discuss the Threshold and Attenuation parameters and how they function. Thank you for all the TMP videos!

    I was so disappointed when I installed the update. The third-party IRS I have on presets were all changed to a Blues Junior curve, sounded like crap and were drastically quieter. I was not happy trying to figure it out

  • @DougBsDigitalDen
    @DougBsDigitalDenКүн бұрын

    The default for me is a 4x12 GB curve. But it's easy - just find a curve that closely matches your IR. Before this they were all using the default curve, and that REALLY sounded like crap. Are you using a lot of IRs?

  • @DougBsDigitalDen

    Here's the process: 1) You build all of the PRESETS you need for a SONG. 2) Create a SONG, which is made up of up to 6 PRESETS. 3) Repeat steps 1 & 2 to create a list of SONGS. 4) Now you can create a SETLIST, which is made up of numerous SONGS. If you're creating a SETLIST, don't search for PRESETS. Search for SONGS.

    Hey Doug once again Marcus Damian here just wanted to reach out to you on this video as well that you just posted once again may not be important but I think it is and I think would be a game changer for the tone Master pro and maybe you can relate this to the guys at fender The idea is for all of us musicians who like to use our affectionates in stomp or manual mode off and on switches then making all 10 switches on the tone master pro would be ideal that way you have more to choose from pedal wise and it just make it a lot easier for us who want to add multiple things on one preset and on top of that I guess with the new update if they can add a few more pedals like The wazecraft metal zone the MXR phase 95 boss blues driver maybe even the new pack rat pedal and maybe even the MXR super badass distortion I think those would be a few good pedals that would be a pretty good game changer for the tone Master pro and once again all 10 switches and stomp mode trust me it's a game changer and I think a lot of players out there would appreciate it especially me being the funk r&b player that I am just a little idea for your Doug anyway my brother loved the videos keep them coming......

    Hey Doug this is Marcus Damian here I love my tonemaster pro My only question to you is maybe you can relate to the guys at fender is maybe if they can make all 10 switches available and stomp mode that way I can set a pedal to all switches individually because of the fact that I don't really use tap tempo and I think having all 10 switches would be a step up for this board because it is such a great unit so would be one thing just to relate to you and I noticed that you have talked to my nephew a few times which is Sheldon Fisher you actually played one of his funk videos I'm also a funk player in the business for a long time played with a lot of different people in the business and I'm a producer as well so it's definitely nice to meet you Doug and once again if you can relay that idea about using all 10 switches in manual or stomp mode that would be great and I'll probably send you a video or two of me playing as well so keep those videos coming my brother thanks again...

Step by step instructions are really needed when dealing with digital and computer-oriented gear. Your approach is perfect; it could not be better. I have my Helix One, but I have three gigs this coming week. After that, I am going to follow your steps and start making some new presets. One question, though: what is the digital numeric readout on the table at the bottom left of your screen?

    Great video, thanks! I'm trying to get my TMP to work with my Boss GM-800 in a slightly different way (MIDI control, parallel path w/ stereo loop 3/4 acting as a stereo input, and going to output 2), but the MIDI implementation document by Roland is hard for me to understand. Doug, do you happen to have a GM-800 sitting around somewhere? (or can you make a video explaining how to read similar MIDI implementation doc?) It's a pain stomping both boxes to switch sounds. UPDATE: I got it to work! using channel 1, PC XXX works for switching to preset XXX up to 128, for 129-150 you need to switch banks by specifying CC 32 = 1 (haven't tried switching to presets above 128 yet). I'll try to figure out how to activate CTL buttons over MIDI next.

    How about a comparison between the king of cab and mic modeling (UA OX stomp in the stereo digital effects loop in the TMP) and the TMP speaker and mic modeling. In my experience every model sounds better with UA speaker modeling.

  • @DougBsDigitalDen
    @DougBsDigitalDen3 күн бұрын

    That could be fun, but it's $400 and it doesn't have a MIDI 5-pin connector. So there's no way to program it to respond to the TMP. Looks cool tho.

  • @glenncohen4023
    @glenncohen40233 күн бұрын

    You can get them for MUCH cheaper now. They sell for prices in the 200s. I have 2 myself. I have noticed that speaker emulation is a HUGE part of the sonic quality of any model. This is shown in several model comparisons on KZread. One in particular compared the UA dream to the TMP deluxe 65. You would think that they would sound similar. Not even close. This is primarily due to the speaker emulation, not the amp modeling. I tested this by putting a dream (with cab sim off) in loop 3 of the TMP and an ox stomp in loop 4 of the TMP. Using switch link A for the TMP cab and loop 4 to toggle them independently of the deluxe TMP amp model and the dream 65 in loop 3. I was able to get almost identical tones when removing the cab differences. The differences were distinguishable at the “Nashville lead” setting of the 65 deluxe (max treble, min Bass, and max volume with guitar volume and tone to taste), but after putting an eq block after the TMP model to cut some bass and add a touch of air I could not distinguish between the dream 65 and the TMP model). You are correct that the ox does not have midi and that is a limiting factor, however it does allow quick switching between 4 different models with the 2 foot switches. I would have a hard time justifying the need for more than 4 models live. If you are in the studio the app connectivity gives a lot more options. The differences between what the OX does and any IR and SIC combination is night and day. I now have 2 ox stomps for stereo cabs 16 permutations stereo and another 8 mono. I cannot over state how much the ox tech helps get classic tones (maybe not for metal). I have had the FM 9, HELIX floor, tonex, all the UA amp sims, and the TMP (haven’t tried or had the itch for a QQ or Kemper) the ox tech blew away any internal speaker sim and leveled the playing field on amp sims when comparing between units using a independent loop switcher to the extent that it shifted my main priority from accuracy of amp models to accuracy of effects and ease of use on the interface (both of which the TMP shines). This was not welcome news to me as I am in the process of downsizing and would prefer a single unit with an exp or two over having to add another power source and 500a power hungry pedals without midi, but I could not ignore the findings. Maybe one day I will try putting this test up on KZread. Until then my ideal scenario would be an all inclusive modeler with OX speaker sim. I am not loyal to any one brand so I don’t care if it comes from a lic agreement between any of the aforementioned brands or UA developers provide an all in one updatable unit at a competitive price. Until that day TMP, 2 exp, 2 UA stomp it is.

    Is it possible to sample the Tone Net preset in the bottom panel just by clicking on it before moving it to the upper panel and overriding an existing preset. It says on mine there are 473 presets in that bottom panel out of the box new. When I try to sample it by clicking on it nothing changes. I’m still on the upper preset selected in the pedal. It would be nice to sample it right there without having to go to it in the separate Tone Net section. Thanks for any information.

This could also acclimate two players simultaneously, one on acoustic and one on electric. I’ll make the acoustic the default path and leave the electric empty, because I tend to change electric pedals more than acoustic. Awesome! Thanks again, Doug.

    Picked up my TMP yesterday. Updated firmware, connected to a Spark CAB, and was scrolling through default presets within 10 minutes. I’m blown away. I’m not the sharpest tool in the shed and I have struggled getting dialed in with my Boss Katana Artist mark II. With the TMP there is no struggle. Today I’m going to experiment with running output 1 to the Spark CAB and output 2 to the power amp section of the Katana, Fender Hot Rod Deville, and some other amps. The TMP is by far the best piece of gear I’ve purchased in a long time. I consult Doug’s Digital Den for clear, concise instruction. Thank you Doug. Peace! Kevin

    I've noticed that from your channel that you are not afraid to answer questions from guitarists who aren't really that knowledgeable about gear. I am am one of those people, even though I am a programmer and has a specific knowledge of programming computers and/or games it's very narrow. So, I have no real knowledge of guitar technology, I play but that's about it. Now, if I where to make a jump and buy a Fender Tone Master Pro, what else would I need to buy to get it working with Pro Tools. Again I don't have much knowledge of Pro Tools either but I own it, for better or worse. I have an Eleven Rack, but, using that with Pro Tools was a doddle when I got it, it acts as an interface and made everything so easy when I got it, many moons ago. Now not so much and the Eleven Rack is heavily dated (except some sounds are very good), I was using it with Bias FX2. So, I have my guitar, studio monitors (attached to the Eleven Rack), an FR speaker, what else would I need to buy to getting it to work with a TMP, and how would I go about connecting it up, to the computer, so that it will work and "record" with pro-tools or Reaper (something which I have never used but is cheap)? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    The TMP has drivers that turn it into an audio interface on Win11 and MacOS. If you have Win10, it won't work, nor will the control app. Although you could get by with the Android/iOS versions to use the app, you'll need a computer to upgrade firmware. I came from BiasFx2 with the Riff as my interface into Bandlab and the TMP works effortlessly as well. The TMP comes with a 10 ft USB-C cable to connect to your laptop and has a port in the back of the unit. Bandlab (Pro Tools, too) recognize the TMP as an audio interface just fine. Doug can answer about connections, but the TMP could surely replace the Eleven rack and connect easily to your studio monitors via XLR outs on the back. Check out the user manual on the bottom of this page to see all the input/outputs: www.fender.com/en-US/tone-master-pro.html

    If you have a fairly recent computer with a USB-C port, you'll have the gear that you need. You could connect the speakers directly to the TMP and put that Eleven Rack out to pasture 😉
