This channel chronicles my trail and ultra running adventures across the globe. Along with videos of various trail and mountain races I plan to share gear reviews as well as a number of "how to" videos related to long distance adventures in the mountains.
I live by my motto "It's impossible to have a bad day in the mountains". I love to challenge myself and have yet to find my limits. In 2019, I completed "The Last Great Race of Ultrarunning" which consists of completing the six oldest 100 milers in the US in the span of 14 weeks. Since starting ultra running nearly 15 years ago, I have completed more than 150 ultramarathon races including more than 30 races of 100+ miles. In 2022, I tackled and completed my first 200+ mile events at Moab 240 and Tahoe 200 after failing at my first attempt at the Bigfoot 200. This summer, I completed both the 268 mile Spine Race in the UK and the Tor des Geants 330 in Italy. 2024 promises to be just as exciting and challenging.

Nice work! Epic timing. I'm glad you made it. The weather couldn't have been better really. 💪💪 Way to gut it out.
Thanks, yeah it was a fantastic day out, albeit a bit long🙂
What’s with the music selection? You should have something a little mellower considering the beautiful terrain. The music spoils the entire video.
Hi Martin. I love your videos! I'm just getting into trail and ultra running myself. I have a question. When you walk/hike during a race, what pace do you keep? I'm trying to practice the hiking piece and I don't have any idea what pace to aim for. Thanks!
I’m glad to hear you enjoy my videos. Making them is great fun? Knowing people actually enjoy watching them makes it even greater:-) regarding hiking, it really depends and everyone is different. In fact, I am not a fast hiker. The best advice I can give is to hike with purpose. Your mind starts wandering and you get slower, so it is helpful to remind yourself that you are “hiking with a purpose” even while practicing it. Speaking of practicing, hiking is definitely something you will want to integrate into your training as it can be as important as the running, especially as you tackle longer and longer distances. HTH and good luck in your training. Can’t wait to hear about your progress.
@ultrakraut thank you so much for your response. It makes total sense and I will be sure to incorporate practice hikes into my training. I'll be attempting my first ultra distance (50k) at the Mamba 100 in Memphis this November.
Good job and what a great scenary ! 🎉
Thank you!
Great video! What did you use to film this?
GoPro, likely 9.
what program are you following in mnttough app?
Gym Foundation, but it may not be the right choice for me as there is too much cardio or high intensity involved, which I get already running and cross training.
@ultrakraut Understood and thank you. Now that the low temps in AZ are 90 degrees, I'm trying to incorporate more gym time. The miles are getting hard to maintain and recover. Trail running with simon sent me here and really enjoying your content
I did my geology field study in that area and I got a big smile seeing familiar rock formations. Thanks for sharing your adventure!
Glad you were able to revisit some memories.
TRT100 in my hometown! LMK if you have any questions! Best of luck to you, Sir!
Will do, much appreciated!
Wow! Incredible footage of the course 😍. I really appreciate this. My boyfriend ran the course and I didn’t get to go this time so it was nice to see this video. You have great videos. We actually watch your videos and Simon’s videos a lot because they are so helpful. Thank you for taking the time to do these. Way to keep pushing and finish strong. 🙌😊
Thanks for your kind words! It really means a lot and lets me know to keep creating these race videos.
@@ultrakraut Please do! We love watching your videos. They are SO well done. Thanks for taking the time to make them. You’re very talented.
And foot repair?
They look surprisingly well. Will be trying a new pre taping approach at the next 100. Tried everything else.
Incredible finish, Martin! Well done!
Thanks very much!
Great video great effort well done sir,
Thanks very much!
Congrats on another awesome finish! Great video as usual!
Thanks so much!
Solid work out there! I spent most of the race about 2 miles behind you, this will be a great vid for me to refer back to. I missed the cut off at Dry Creek inbound by 4 min. Way to keep pushing!
I hate that you missed the cutoff there. It was quite stressful for me to Drycreek as well. I took only a few minutes before pushing out again. I hope you’re getting the opportunity to go back some day for some unfinished business.
Thanks for sharing Martin - and thanks for the shoutout. Great running with you :)
Heck yeah, let’s do that again some time soon.
It would have to be 40 degrees and no sun for me to wear a black shirt
Ha! Well, it really doesn’t make that much of a difference for me. It’s more about making sure your body is covered rather than the color of the shirt, but I get ya. I definitely try to wear light clothing in extremely hot conditions.
@@ultrakrautyeah I run hot I have black shirts I like to wear but I really can’t unless it’s winter.that’s nice that it doesn’t bother you good job by the way I was trying to talk my friend into cocodona but we watched this and decided this looks better.
It’s a great event, you won’t regret signing up.
Well done! I was there back in 2022, also a hot year. Such a beautiful course, I loved it. Great job after 3 hundreds in 8 weeks!
Thank you! Two 200+ milers and two 100 milers in the last 8ish weeks, but who's counting, lol.
Wow...thank you for sharing your adventure. Your movie solidified the fact that I will sign up for BH100 one day. Way to keep going out there. Love the ending tunes as well!!
Thanks! I'm stoked to hear that you are putting this race on your to do. It's why I create these race videos.
Amazing Martin! Can’t believe how many of these you’ve done lately on beat up feet!
Well, I have a whole month to recover now:-)
Great video! Definitely loved seeing everything again after racing it as well. Enjoy recovery!
You, too! Congrats on your win! What an amazing performance on that course!
Great vid once again! Unrelated question: as a fellow expat you having seen significantly more of this country than I have) if you could choose a place to live (no strings attached) where would you go? From a trail runners perspective... Thanks
Easy, Colorado, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, in that order. Of course, that's just my opinion.
You’re a tough guy! I admire you so much! Love your wife too, she’s a champ!!
Thank you! I am lucky to have such a supportive wife!
Congratulations on the buckle Martin!
Thanks, David!
i love your videos! i think the music is too loud though - it's always a lot louder than your voice, and then i have to change the volume when you switch between talking and the music
Noted, thanks for the feedback.
Good work man, ine tough course I was out there for the 52 miler. Think we ended up crossing paths somewhere around the top of the wall.
Thanks! Quite possible, there seemed to be a steady stream of 50 milers passing me at that point. Congrats on your finish!
Congrats job well done! You are amazing.
Thank you!
Nice work
Thanks!
Enjoyed watching. Brought back some good memories of the beautiful area. Congrats on a hard earned finish!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it.
Really enjoy your content. Great stuff!
Thank you! Be sure to subscribe to get latest content🙂
Congratulations!
Thanks very much!
Are you doing another 100 so soon???? If so have a great run! Beautiful area
Yup, I have a busy summer:-)
This was an awesome video, I want to run an Ultra now 🫡
You should!
Amazing effort! Amazing video! Liked and subbed!
Thank you much!
Please stop. Nobody wants to run a 100 without mountains. Im Ohio. Cease and desist
Congratulations on your amazing achievement
Thank you so much!
Congrats on earning the Ohio 100 mile buckle! I had fun during the early miles we shared on Saturday and am glad you fought through the course and those previous races' miles in your legs to go beast mode and get it done! Enjoy a well deserved rest
Thanks. you ran a fantastic race! Congrats!
Wow well done! Can’t believe after the condition your feet were in from Cocodona you did another 100. Animal!
Haha, thanks!
Martin it was great running with you. You are right, this is a tough course. Great job on the finish with your race schedule!
Thank you, and thank you for your pacing, it made the second half go by about as fast as possible:-)
veri good👏
Hi! Galina here 😊 Could you tell me what brand is your bivy? I am doing the Spine challenger in January and am starting to assemble to kit. Thanks in advance! 😊
Outdoor Research Helium Bivy, but I now picked up the Alpkit Hunka for next year's Winter Spine. It is marginally lighter.
Great video! You captured the course well and really said it well. That course is deceptively challenging. It certainly feels tougher than the 14k+ feet of climbing. I was also out there and came in at 28h 30m. Suffered from some bad blisters which isn’t common for me but we got the job done. Great work to you and thanks for the continued quality content!
Thanks and congrats on your result!
Love the way you said Kes-Wick ( this is exactly how I pronounce it - a local and a Graham) ; it's on my list to do this adventure! Love it - keep at it; all the best!
Thanks so much!
That drop from Mingus to Jerome was gnar. Just an assault on the body at that point. Congrats brother
For sure, but thankfully I had my favorite pacer aka wife along for that section and for the climb up and over Mt Elden.
Good job! I watched every minute of both videos
Thank you, I hope it was worth your time at least a little.
Congrats !! It's interesting to actually see places that were night time for me, like 'ah, that's how it looked?!'. Thanks for sharing!
Ha, yeah! I had the same emotion watching your video, especially around Sedona where i was at least half a day behind you.
