I have two gurdies, one a Volksgurdy made by Michael Hubbert from California, and another by Olympic Musical Instruments, the folks who made the one in this video. ❤ Edit: I looked up “hurdy gurdy” in a very old English dictionary and the meaning of the name was given as “round bottom thing that turns,” which could possibly mean a dancer? It did make us laugh, though! Prices and wait times for gurdies have both changed dramatically. Prices can go up well over $10,000, and wait times can be into several years. A lot of folks will buy less expensive gurdies with a faster shipping date not realizing how this can result in a pretty but virtually unplayable “hurdy gurdy shaped object” (HSO). There are some decent beginner gurdies out there but it’s best to get guidance from an experienced player before buying or really doing your homework first. When they are decent quality they can be incredibly satisfying to play and add a lot to a repertoire but an HSO is just depressing. Anyway! Excellent video! I’m thrilled to see good information anywhere on this wonderful, demanding and ultimately rewarding instrument. Well done!

reading the comments I have to say people vastly overestimate his home milling machine. Programming it and building an early 3d printer frame was never the issue. The main reason milling machines have never been made accessible to a home audience at a reasonable price is rigidity. You simply can't build a frame out of half inch aluminum profiles and expect reasonable results on anything but the softest woods or plastic

this reminds me of the time i went under general anaesthetic and became aware that everything was composed of vibrating sine waves generated by the chaotic tension between opposites, represented by my vision flashing red and green. i still kind of feel like this is true in an allegorical sense. i get the vibe that time cube is gene ray having a similar feeling that i do, but ... taking it very literally. letting his intuition about the fundamental nature of things on a micro level and expanding it to try and predict things on a macro level. fitting the world to his intuition. thats why he feels like just looking at a cube proves his theory. it's not a model built from describing things he observes, its a representation of his raw intuition. the idea itself is what convinces him, not any evidence surrounding it. please reply if you read this comment and it made any goddamn sense lmao EDIT: short version - this is what happens when someone who can't keep track of their thoughts comes up with dialectics. i know bc this happened to me once when i was drugged.

It’s actually kind of heartwarming that the place that occupies the old Purr building is a legitimate cat rescue organization, complete with high reviews and people praising their efforts to protect cats and find them new homes, a complete 180 from what cats had to endure within that building just 5 years ago
