    I got mine for years! I love it, but I find it kind of slow sometimes. Also I have a 24v 7 1/4 sliding dual bevel Kobalt and it is awesome! The cut capacity is much longer than the Dewalt. But the saw is a little bit bigger. Do you also find that your miter saw loses a little power with some cuts?

  • @kinfolk_carpentry
    @kinfolk_carpentry6 күн бұрын

    I thinks some of the power loss might depend on what battery your using I do find in some materials it may be underpowered a bit but i think having a flex volt battery in it helps

    I don’t think I would use this for melamine it would certainly cut it but I think you would get some tear out I would probably use a track saw for that

    How do you go about quoting jobs? I know trim, base etc you can charge by the foot. But let’s say you’re taking out old doors and installing new ones and it’ll take you all day. Are you just charging what your days worth? I’m trying to start doing side jobs but I just need to be better with giving clients quotes.

  • @kinfolk_carpentry
    @kinfolk_carpentry17 күн бұрын

    Yes exactly I have a day rate and a half day rate . So even if it’s a 2 hour job it’s a half day . So i bid a job by breaking down how many days I think it will take me add in some profit for your business and mark up on materials and that’s how it’s done

    I just bought this saw at Home Depot, it didn’t come with the T bar, I bought 2 blades at the same time, a framing blade & a fine finish blade. The blade with the saw was a 24T. I only wanted to cut up some old pickets & my saw saw was getting too heavy. This will come in handy for smaller wood cutting.

    It’s not the lever, it’s the attachment that connects the plate to the depth guide. Seems as thought there is only one rivet holding it to the plate. I’m going to look a little closer and make sure there isn’t a weld missing or something,

And when your biding jobs mark up material and subs 10-15%

    Great advice! When I became a Christian man then I seen just how big of a turn-off was acting like a teenager with no control over his tongue! I wanted my creator to be pleased with my behavior? Like staring at your customers wife? Make crass comments about them or their children? Acting like a pro because it took hard work to become one ? Even when ( and a few times it has happened) the customer looses it ? I don’t ! I subbed a job yr and a half ago and I watched the GC argue in front of all the trades with the customer? She was a doctor as was her husband they knew mathematics and were quick? So she quickly pointed out the contractual agreements , schedule of payments , reasons for with holding a draw ? I say all that to say this ? Work with ppl not against them? All that lady wanted was a progress meeting on a Saturday for an hour and he dug in ( the GC) stating it was family time ? ( I wanted to scream “ hey moron your not having any family time if your broke”! ). Bottom line he was JW and it was against the church to work weekends where he was ? Silly ! Either you are a tradesman or you’re an hourly employee with scheduled days off ! U certainly are not both! Great video !

    Nice overview, thanks for taking the time to post it. I’m considering this saw - most of my work will be outdoor using pressure treated (at least for now). Older woman with weak arms, lol. I have a circular saw but wondered if this investment would help me make consistent, repeatable cuts on 2x4 and 1x6 to save time. My circular saw is older and quite heavy to use all day. Comparing against a 10” brushless motor 18v Ryobi (I’m not a contractor so don’t need super duty). Seems like the smaller blade Dewalt will do all I need.

  • @kinfolk_carpentry
    @kinfolk_carpentryАй бұрын

    It would definitely help make repeatable cuts and is nice because it’s small and light . I’m personally not a big fan of ryobi but they are cost effective and do the job they just don’t stand up to the abuse a full time contractor puts them through

    Is it ok to sometimes have exposed nails at the corner? Only one of my windows 🪟 out of 20 has two exposed nails at the corner. Not sure why nails were needed when they would be visible.

  • @kinfolk_carpentry
    @kinfolk_carpentryАй бұрын

    Yah it fine to have exposed nails they are aluminum nails so they won’t rust . in my case the nails will have caulking over them so technically they won’t be exposed. I’m sure someone who does window capping every day has a more efficient way of capping and hiding there nails for me this is just the way I was taught .

    i like the idea of having your tools located in one place while you are working on site. I used to have that same stand but I ended up getting the folding style with wheels as I am quite a bit older than you and carry tools everyday wears me out. That being said, one other commenter said something about folding it. that got me to thinking - you could use piano hinges. Make it a trifold. leave the back rail out of the equation or be able to slide the back rail in to keep it from swaying.

  • @kinfolk_carpentry

    @demontekdigital1704Ай бұрын

    Man, that's really cool! Necessity is the mother of invention. One minor suggestion I have would be to drill some holes on the sides so that you can make a removable shelf for the top. This would allow you to place boards to be cut by the miter saw to sit on a flat surface, and remove the risk of it tilting, or more likely bowing, in the void between the sides. You could use those shelf pins because they're small enough to not be an obstruction. If you don't need that top shelf you can always remove it, but it gives you another option.

What I do instead is mark my reveal intersection and the outside of my trim intersection and draw a line between them then measure the angel and I can nail it in immediately without having to wait and it won’t come off from pressure after a while because it’s sitting naturally
