S&S Horseshoeing - Maverick Vet Service

S&S Horseshoeing - Maverick Vet Service

Hey! Thanks for stopping by our channel!

Here you'll find videos on trimming and shoeing horses, forging handmade horseshoes, therapeutic horseshoeing, tips and tricks for other farriers, and some veterinary cases.

My name is Sheldon Thomas. I am a Veterinarian and Certified Journeyman Farrier with the American Farrier's Association. I was born and raised in a small town in Southeastern Arizona, USA. I am currently working as a mixed animal veterinarian in Washington and keep busy horseshoeing on the side. Between that and spending time with my family, my time is pretty well spoken for. My wife and I have been married for seven years and we have three little boys.

Ride like the wind and God bless!

I hope you will answer this. I have a 17 year old severely foundered with rotated coffin bone. Well I can’t attach a picture. The toe is so rolled that it looks like it is 4” from the hair line. It looks way too short. Is there a point where this is necessary? Farriers are far and few between around here

Excellent!!! Super x-rays and line diagrams! Finally, I understand laminitis and founder. Just found your channel and subscribed and belled. Thank you for great videos. Have never had horses (I wish). I am just very interested in all things in veterinarian medicine. Best from Cleveland, Ohio

Nooooooo this isn’t correct. Horse needs the pillar of support leave the toe wall to support the new growth and take heels down to hard sole plane. Tie shopping causes the stiletto appearance to the pedal bone. Check out Lindsey Serchell Hoof Marvelous to see all the laminitis rehabs.

sure takes a lot of work to take care of horse hoofs. If I had a horse, I would think that the horse hoof should be looked at once a week for sure to keep an eye on them

My farrier did what you're doing - chopping off toe and shaving front of hoof and all it did in the end was cause total distortion of the hoof and caused him to walk tip toe on his sole right over P3 which ended up killing him. The capsule begins to rotate NOT P3....the horse needs his whole hoof to heal not removal of the toe and front of the hoof wall which causes him to walk on sole and cause more DAMAGE! Your experience and "opinion" is killing horses - some may recover but at what cost and level of unneeded pain. Leave the toe - trim to hard sole plane, trim heels and LEAVE ALONE to grow out right!
