The 2x4 lifts on the lip of the stainless steel basket. Above the lip is the liquid filled balance ring. If the corrosion holding the basket to the shaft is not too bad, the basket will lift out as he shows. If the corrosion is bad, as the 2x4 lifts, the stainless lip will move up and crack the balance ring. Guess how I found out, lol!

Just a second.. This is risky! I just did the same thing and tub came out fine. Then I went to replace the top bearing in the transmission (yeah I know they are not rebuildable.. but actually they are!). Anyway why is this risky? Well I got the transmission out and set it up to press out the top bearing in the transmission and pop! It broke the transmission housing.. Oil all over the floor etc. Now my press was applying force in exactly the same way as this video.. i.e pushing down on the center shaft.. But that center shaft pushes on the plastic housing inside the transmission.. So using this method could break the transmission just like I did! The safe way to do this is to have a socket or similar that slips over the center shaft and JUST pushes on the outside shaft.. If you push on the center shaft you risk breaking your $300 transmission just like I did.

This looks like a great solution, but only if you know where the dirt is. I have dirt - or perhaps a small pebble that's gotten into the line, with more than a dozen heads. I imagine it will be necessary to do this to each head

Didn't work for me.... Had to break the wash plate apart to get off... Plastic gear under the plastic piece that has six screws was a bear to get off with channel locks. Ended up breaking 2x4 in half while trying to jack drum. Finally threw washer in dumpster after that... enough was enough. That was a great feeling giving that POS a heave ho in the dumpster....Terrible design.

I got 2002 Chevy Malibu I did turn the key to on position on and off for 10 times 😩 the gas gauge went up and down every time and I have 1/2 tank of gas Then after that I thought it got reset the anti theft alarm got reset NO ! When I try to start only cranks and doesn’t start sounds like the ie no gas going to the inyectores I may need to replace the torque converter clutch circuit ( could be stuck on ?)there is electricity going to my fuse breakers under the hood 😖☹️

Thank your for this video. Just removed the tub from a Cabrio using a small hydraulic jack. Don't think anything else would have worked the tub was really hard to get off even with the jack, had to hammer on the top of the 2x4 with a small hand sledge as well. Let it soak over night with acetone and transmission fluid mix as well and it finally came all the way off this morning.

Man 8 years later and you saved my butt! Also thanks to the people in the comments on how to get the tub back in. I took some sandpaper and sanded the grit off the shaft and it slid right back into place.

Just had mine pop, and by that I mean ripped the plastic rim off when the 2x4 broke loose from the metal rim. The wood was too VHT against the rim. Soaked the shaft overnight with wd and Sanded it with Emory cloth. clocked the wood 180 degrees and it popped out again. I’m now going scorched earth to remove the drum. Diamond blade on a grinder and the oxy acetylene torch. I’m running some screws into the lip first to try and use the jack one more time. I don’t care if the drum is destroyed, and it already is. I just want it off of there. I’ll replace the washer with a speed queen. Whirlpool sucks now and this was the worst performing washing machine ever anyways. F’ck You Whirl Poo !!!!!! And f’ck all you water saving hippies for pressuring them to make such junk. If you figure out a way to wash clothes at this stage of the clothes washing game , you aren’t using enough water to wash or rinse the clothes. I’ve spent thousands of dollars and wasted days on the high efficiency models. They’re all junk. High efficiency toilets , shower heads, washers, ac’s, refrigerators, Dishwashers , cars, whatever. They’re all junk rip offs, and terrible for the environment because they don’t work very well if at all and break early and often leading them to be thrown away. I’ve never been more disgusted and disappointed in people and products as I am right now. Speed queen here I come. Pro tip. I work on very wealthy homes, they all seem to use the same generic stuff that is bulletproof. Speed queen washer and dryers. Sub Zero refrigerators Wolf gas kitchen equipment.
